Need gaming Monitor recommendations

Hey guys, i find myself in need of a new monitor. I've done a bit of research and have decided that i want to grab a 19" CRT monitor. My needs are mostly for gaming.

Any recommendations for specific brand/models?

And could somebody tell me how much better those Mitsubishi monitors w/ teh Triniton tubes and why they're considered the best?

The maximum amount i can work with here is $400.

Thanks in advance!

How much better than shadow masks are aperture grille monitors? There's just no comparison. Much stronger colors, sharper, flat tubes... the list goes on and on.

I prefer the Mitsubishi models because 1. They're not Sony 2. You aren't paying for Sony's brand name 3. They have better menus 4. They look better and 5. They're not Sony.

I have a Mits Diamond Pro 920, and it's the best monitor I've ever seen. Well, the only thing better would be the 22" model :)

So the best monitors are ones that feature shadow masks rather than aperture grill? Check.

Thx for the clarification Error! I really don't follow monitor technology and it's something that i've often overlooked when looking at my gaming performance. Trying to change that as best i can.

Edit- I'm liking the Diamond Pro 920 model. Seems to have a great price:performance ratio. Hmmmm.

I have a Gateway VX1120 (not sure on the model number) but I know it's a rebadged Mitsubishi 2040u (22" :D), I bought it over 2 years ago and has served me well ever since, best purchase I have probably ever made.

CONGRATURATION!!1 YOU FAIL ENGRISH

Aperture Grille is better than Shadow Mask, as he awkwardly says.

Aperture Grille/Trinitron/Diamondtron tubes tend to be the flatest, highest quality CRTs available.

Check out http://www.canadamonitors.com/ for awesome deals on surplus big ass CRTs and LCDs. (These aren't refurbs)

Yeah, my 19" is a KDS Avitron, fantastic quality, love the apeture grill technology...till it started getting a screeching sound and the colors got washed out (reds look like blues now) :( So i'm back to my 17", and shopping for a new one.

I'm considering Samsung's 997 for $200. Saw the unit in the store, seemed pretty nice. 18" viewable, .20 pitch, 1600x1200 @85.

EDIT: Scratch that, it doesn't use Trinitron technology, I'll pass.

I'm using a 19" Viewsonice ProSeries P95f+ at 1600x1200 85hz.
It's done well, I paid like $230 for it. NewEgg treats you well.

*Looks at official manual at necmitsubishi.com....

Wow, pretty ballsy specs for a 19". Even the manual itself recommends 1280x1024x85hz (which is what I would recommend for any 19" type). 1600x1200 is usable although it may appear a bit hazy depending on the CRT itself.

I do think it would be worth the purchase, although at those prices I would again consider the link I posted.
