New Ace Attorney Announcement Trailer

I hope this involves Phoenix Wright visiting a relative and finding a series of letters. All of this game should take place in the letters that Phoenix is reading.. the letters that will reveal a secret about a case he is working on. (That way they could do some severe time jumps.)

I can't wait to see distant relatives for prominent Ace Attorney characters.

Sega thought people who play Yakuza games would be actively disinterested in samurai.

You can never tell with video game publishers.
The annoying thing is that I wonder if they may be right ANYWAY. Well, not in that specific case, but then the problem isn't "are people who play Yakuza actively disinterest in samurai" (wtf they're playing a fucking Japanese gangster game, they probably care more than most people) so much as "do people actively want to play/buy Yakuza games? At full price."

Still, AA always seemed to do reasonably well and while text heavy the nature of the games probably always made them more reasonable than similarly verbose games that are ALSO spanning a large game world. Unless AA5 tanked as a digital game I have to imagine there's enough interest to localize it, but maybe for some reason Capcom thinks AA took off with people who don't otherwise enjoy Japanese games or something equally insane.

EDIT: I also wholly expect they'll accept it's in Japan but localize everyone's names anyway. So what if he's named Eagle Wright, he's totally just another Japanese citizen circa the Meiji Era.

I'm pretty sure that they only mentioned they were in Los Angeles once over the course of the six localized games. That was towards the beginning of the first game. Then when they go to Kurain village there's a halfhearted explanation of why they're in this very Japanese looking place.

Other than that, there aren't any references that they're in America. I don't think they even have to address it at all. The only reason not to localize would be if Capcom thought that a Japanese setting would turn off a western audience, but that would be a deeply fundamental misunderstanding of the type of people who buy Phoenix Wright games.

No they explicitly mention more than that. Like at Bluecorp with Redd White.

Explicitly mention in spoken dialogue or evidence, you mean? I thought the regular "blue" introductory text that precedes visits to Phoenix's office regularly mentions being in Los Angeles, whenever that does happen.

You know, a localization of the first three games in some sort of higher definition compilation would be a great time to retcon that issue right out.

Just saying......

It's not exactly a crazy opinion. AA2 and AA4 are pretty miserable. The Layton crossover is apparently pretty weak, too, but I haven't played it yet.

They were weaker entries but calling them miserable is a bit much, they were still a lot of fun. AA2 had one really good case that's up there with the best, and AA4 also had some good ones(and the best first case besides the one in AA3) IMO.

Oh yeah. I was just being difficult. I don't think most people who'd ostensibly be affected by this sort of thing ("what! I thought for sure Ace Attorney took place in Cali! This is teh sux") care at this point.

Both AA2 and AA 4 are amazing. 2 is of course a bridge game in a trilogy so of course it wasn't gonna have a major impact as the other 2, but adds great elements like the psyche locks and very good stand alone cases. 4 really spices things up and has amazing cases as well. The only weak in the series is AAI which, surprise, Takumi isn't involved.

Not to mention Ghost Trick REALLY hit it out of the park.

Yeah, maybe I'm being a little bit ha-

Wait, no.
It's one of the best cases in the series actually, due to the distinctive tone throughout the tragedy.

They've got this wonderful chance to fix that small "issue" and I hope they localize that 3DS game.

I want it. Even if they end up just releasing it digitally.

Actually, if they release it digital only.. I hope the next three pack of games is 4, AAI1, and AAI2. That would be awesome. If the only way to get AAI2 was in a three pack of games and digitally.. I would not hesitate for the ability to own all of the Ace Attorney games on my 3DS digitally.

I mean, come on Capcom. I pre-ordered and day one purchased Ace Attorney 3, 4, and Investigations. Show me some love, Cacpcom okay? I bought Resident Evil: Revelations multiple times in both physical and digital format on my 3DS. :-P

Can't wait for more info. Meiji Era makes things interesting regarding cases and older technology.
Plus Takumi gets to work on the series while being able to throw in a lot of new ideas.

At a minimum they should either move the game's location to another city (Seattle?) or just outright remove any specific named city. It was insanely shortsighted to place it in Los Angeles when the second and third games had snow, did they not bother to check out the future entries first, or were they too pessimistic about the chances of future releases (or most stupefying of all didn't know what SoCal weather actually was)?

But given the collection has an English option if I'm remembering right that's probably not something likely to be fixed at this stage.

Still waiting for this to be an Action game.

Ehh... not sure how they could do that and not detract from the game's strengths.

I love how the game is just exploring set pieces, talking to people and probing their minds.

I can't for the life of me think of a single action game that could work for this series.

Well, you're right about Ghost Trick being awesome, but I just can't agree with anything else you said.

I think psyche locks are a complete waste of time that only serve to make the dull investigation parts longer by clumsily making them more like the exciting trial portions. AA5 had the right idea when it heavily streamlined the investigations.

AA2 as a whole seemed designed with little regard for the player's time. Navigation is a needlessly complex and it introduced the absolute worst mechanic in the series: having to press statements in a specific order. The first three cases all feel like filler, even the one that is integral to the overarching trilogy. There really needed to be a main villain that touches multiple cases, like in every other game in the series.

Here's some more heresy: I think the overarching plot thread in the first three games is stupid. The spirit medium shit got way up its own ass.

I'd say something about AA4 but I can barely remember anything about it. I planned on replaying it along with the rest of the games before AA5 came out, but I burned out halfway through AA3.

It was a joke, since the Basara guy is involved in this.

Hey Capcom, you can announce that localization now... Yeah, now would be great.

The trailer is cool. Loving the music. Is the "founder" in the subs referring to the girl? I wonder if she has some connection to the Feys.

I believe the only reason AAI2 didn't receive a Western release was because of its unfortunate timing of coming out right as the 3DS was launching. Sure there are some fishy parts to that story, but it makes a bit on sense, and I totally expect an E-Shop only release of this game after AA5 sales apparently exceeded expectations.

I mean if people were able to handle the Yokai Village stuff in AA5, the Meiji Era should be fine!

Actually - that line is a bit rough to translate.

So, earlier on, the captions call Ryuunosuke "the founder [of 'turnabout'] and forefather". At the very end it just says something like "The founder and forefather, miraculously come together", but it's ambiguous as to if those are both referring to Ryuunosuke, and these two ideas come together in him, or if the 'founder' and 'forefather' at the end are two separate people meeting.

I'm hoping Capcom localizes this, even digitally if no other option is there. I mean, I want a physical version of course but I just want to play the game in English.

so we can hope for localization news on E3? maybe?
C'mon Capcom I still hate you but this could make me hate you less! LOL

The only way Phoenix would make sense in the localization is maybe to make the game still take place in Japan and make his ancestor a foreigner. Maybe. I don't know

Hnnnnnnnnnnnng, yes please. They didn't show much but everything about what they did show looks incredible. Now we play the waiting game (for localization ;_;)

PLEASE PLEASE BRING IT HERE

THAT MUSIC SLAYED ME

seriously i will die if this isnt localized. i will literally die. RIP me.

I really like how the different this theme is from most of the music in the main franchise. I hope that they have more in this vein to really differentiate it from the original series.

Getting Sakura Taisen vibes from the setting and design (which makes perfect sense given the era depicted). That's a very good thing.

is the crossover really that bad? i wanted to buy it ...

It's fantastic unless you already dislike Professor Layton, in which case why buy it? It's definitely more 'Professor Layton and the Ace Attorney' then 'Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: Guest-starring Layton' though, so keep your expectations in check.

On topic, this trailer doesn't really show anything Famitsu didn't, but that music alone is enough to get me hyped. Really hoping we get to see this one out here in Europe.
