It can't be, I've written the message twice with the translator and twice it has been accidentally deleted. I will summarize a lot.

Sorry, I have not quite understood what BS means.

When I say it is irrelevant I mean in this specific case. Obviously TFs are important.

But when you have a TV 8k 50" everything looks very clear. Wonderful. But if two TVs of 50" of 16k and 17k appear, the difference between their resolutions will become irrelevant and their respective image filters will be more important.

Your eye will not notice the difference between 16k and 17k. If they were 16k and 32k with the appropriate panel it is possible that you noticed the difference. But is not the case.

That is why I say that the differences in this case will be given by other characteristics. Like hardware and software (by type of project, developer and budget).

Logically I also understand that the owner of a 17k TV will always boast that it is sharper than that of 16k, but in practice it will hardly matter.

I do not know if I explained well. That's why I say that the war will be marketing.

PS. I hope that no TV lover has been offended by my rude example. I know that not everything is so simple like a resolution, but it was simply to exemplify a situation.

Cheers (I hope the translation is good because the original has been deleted again:messenger_weary:)

Dont worry what you said is easy to understand.

If PS5 is 11tf and SeX 13tf we wont be able to tell the difference in games. But if PS5 has faster loading and better audio that swings things in favour of PS5 all else equal.

Software can be this deciding factor too. If Sex is 12tflops and PS5 13tflops it won't matter. But if SeX launches with Crackdown 4 that swings things massively in SeX's favour as the last one was so fun to play actually.

Well I hope you’re right, but 3rd parties launching XSX exclusive titles is not so clear cut. For this to happen, MS would need to prepared to create XSX box art and divide the Live storefront. Sounds simple enough, but this does not gel with their messaging and feels out of place if not a Single MS title sits on top of this.

I hate to say it, but I have a bad feeling MS is mandating Xbox as the platform and all games published are required to work on the entire family of consoles including 3rd party. It gives me no pleasure to derive such a conclusion as it will hold back not just Xbox, but all systems.

Hoping to be completely wrong on this.
I think the box will just say "Xbox" with a new logo design (so people don't think they can put their original Xbox games in it) and that's it. Maybe put a checkbox on the back that specifically tells you if it runs on Xbox One or not. But is that needed? Microsoft wants to launch a first party game every three months. So in an absolute worst case scenario we are talking about 5 games that fall under the crossgen first party titles, from November 2020 to November 2021 (that's the time frame Booty gave). Might make more sense to just do box art for next gen and then put a "plays also on Xbox One" sticker on top of it.

And no, they don't have to divide the store at all. They can just use it as is and filter depending on what platform you are watching it from.

I think a better example would've been to just take what we have. If Lockhart is 4 TF and PS5 is 9.2 TF and XSX is 12 TF - that's a huge gap. But in that case Lockhart as the 1080p machine would hold back XSX (the 4K machine) while PS5 could just drop resolution to 1080p and use the full 9.2 TF for that. Games would look much better on PS5. If they added something along the lines of DLSS to reach a 4K output, XSX is done for. There are smart approaches to reach a goal and there are brute force approaches to do so.

Really? Damn I remember when I played FM3 and it selling like 5/6M.

Still it's one of their biggest IP's.

It has lost a lot of players this gen, yes. They have shifted to Forza Horizon, which has exploded from 2 million for Horizon 1 to 4 for Horizon 2, to 6 for Horizon 3 and now almost 12 million for Horizon 4.

That doesn't make sense. Could you be more specific?

Why would the PS5 need to "drop resolution to 1080p" ?

It doesn't need to, it is free to target any resolution, that's the point. If XSX went to 1080p, Lockhart would run at 540p. While Sony can target 1800p to match XSX in visuals and anything between 1080p and 1800p to beat them despite having the weaker GPU.

Please stop joking......9.2TF and 1080p games.....

Are you talking about multiplatform games?

So you are saying if a new Assassin's Creed releases and Microsoft Xbox Series X were to run that game at 1080p (which won't happen in a console that is going to be twice as powerful as the Xbox One X and the Xbox One X doesn't run games at 1080p) then Sony could play the game at a higher resolution just fine and all that with Sony having a weaker GPU?

Something doesn't add up here.

news on monday?

One could read into that post that there is a possibility of something happening after the weekend , but November 2020 will also be after the weekend.

So far all vague predictions and shrouded hints turned out to be nothing.

Eventually someone will be right, but that is not a miracle if we have new people predicting that something is going to happen soon.

I’m quite surprised that nobody has brought up the elephant in the room, and that’s precisely that Matt Booty never ONCE said that cross gen is 1st party only.

That’s ALL that Matt Booty said. All the “It will only apply to 1st party games” is an assumption everyone is presumably making based on comments inserted for the article by MCVUK’s editor Seth Barton.

Matt Booty doesn’t Specify if he’s talking about Xbox as a whole or just talking about Xbox Studios.

To the “It doesn’t apply to
Third Party” crowd, you’re basing that completely on this Seth Barton comment, not Matt Booty. Seth Barton’s sells magazines and articles. This completely non Microsoft or Xbox guy saying “it’s also unlikely that” in a comment regarding “hardware exclusivity” or not is hardly anything that I’d take to the bank.

You can’t even blame Seth Barton. I imagine that the “It doesn’t apply to 3rd party developers” thing was added on by other people reporting on the original article.

With a name like “Series X”, I wouldn’t be surprised at all if Xbox One X hardware specifically is required to be included in compatibility for all games released for the “X series” of hardware whereas One S or below may not be. If this were to be the case, developers might feel held back by the Mechanical HDD in the One X more than anything and that’s probably what gripe the devs may have when they directly compare PS5 development to developing for the entire X series of consoles.

lol at you thinking xbox can mandate to developers to support older platforms when a new gen is starting. He's strictly talking about Xbox first party games, and yes, in many ways he HAS made it clear before that he's referencing Xbox's first party output. Others at xbox have made that clear even before Booty has also, but you seem to want to believe that it's an entire take it or leave it policy across all of next gen xbox development. Come on, how serious are you being right now?

Read it again, he didnt say that.

He meant:

If xbox have to target 4tflop 1080p and 12tflop 4k machines, while sony targets one 9.2tflop machine with from 1080p to up to 4k resolution, he says that Sony could catch up (most) of the power difference because they dont have to make games two machines in mind + xbox could lose some perf/visuals because of two system approach.

aka ps5 could use it's power more efficent while xbox would lose some power.

and if xbox would design 1080p game that uses all the raw power of 12tflop machine, it would not run 1080p on the 4tflop machine. while ps5 could target the same 1080p with higher details and dont worry about the slow machine.

Because xbox could not make a game that runs with super ultra details @ 1080p with the faster machine, because it would not run on the slow machine, but sony could do it as they dont have slower machine to worry about.

At 4k xbox could take a lead because of better specs, but sony could do tricks to make differences smaller.

That is what he said/meant I think.

Having one system gives you an option to choose 1080p with max details or 4k with less. with fast+slow system the slower system is the lower limit at 1080p, unless dropping details or have lower res than faster system. (if for some reason they would design 1080p game for all the systems)

if this is reality or not, it doesnt matter. Just speculation of different approaches, I dont believe in 9.2tflops ps5, but I see how things could work if they would have these specs

There is also that refresh lineup that lisa su talked about coming in 2020 like Rx5750 (probably on RDNA2) which could be the one Ms & Sony using.

its faster than gddr6 AND low latency something that RT really needs (apparently) and the CPU. But more important than that its power efficient and creates less heat. Downside is that its too expensive, but somehow Sony managed to get their hands on some binned samples. Once again MS made the wrong choice when it comes to RAM.
Thank you alot for such a great and easy to understand explenation! :)
But how do you know Sony got hands on it and that is banned samples? Game changer If this is true. I have read up and watched several videos regarding RT and it is game changer for graphics and designers

not banned, binned. samples that run a bit slower than they usually would so sony gets them cheaper.

Has anyone else heard that the new consoles will have modular compression-ography and variable synchronicity?
I heard that that floating gravitas optimization will reduce the need for wang-pull full throttle!

true but if its 13.8 tflops it does.
The 13.8 system is really stretching (at least buy now with the information we have), but if the rumors that both are very close, on the ~10% tf difference are true, then you're right _ it would be an advantage, and falls in line with BGs BGs saying that in the beginning of the year Xs devkit had the tf advantage and PS devkit better performance.

PS5 is NOT 13.8TF. Only hardcore fanboys may belive in this.....

Of course. PS5 is 14TF, HBM2, ultra SSD, dedicated RT procesor and super cooling solution. Dream more....
Oh! You already have the final specs sir!... Please share with us.

all insiders have said its faster than xsx by a small margin, within 10% or so. also RT is a lot better.

Haha, as said time and time again, you can have the highest TF, fastest ram, fastest ssd and the best RT. But you need to remember to have all this, you'll be looking at something close to £\$ 699.

People seem to forget that with every console release, we are all pretty much disappointed in the specs because they really are dog shit - but credit where credits due, MS and Sony do make the best of what they have and make some amazing looking games for the shit tech we have.

But this is the first generation where we'll actually have some shit hot tech inside the consoles. The bridge between pc and console has never been closer. But you best believe that this will come at a price. Even if the ps5 was 9.2tf, you can forget £/$ 350-399 price tags. These will be premium consoles with a premium price tags.
