Can I just....
How were the Kings seeded 8th?
In the first half of the season, they had a coach who didn't know how to properly use his personnel. Some of our high-potential players, like Brown and Penner, didn't really do anything in the first half. Our only real offensive threats were Kopitar, Richards, and Gagne.
In December, our second-best offensive player at the time (Simon Gagne), went down with a concussion that kept him out until two games ago. Richards got a less serious injury, but it clearly affected his play for a few months, as his scoring dropped off completely. Kopitar started to show definite fatigue from having to carry the team.
In January we changed coaches, and the offense started to click. Then we made the trade for Carter, which allowed us to solidify our lines. Brown went on the trading block, which seemed to motivate him to reach his true potential. Richards started playing better, and our top line of Kopitar, Brown, and Williams became dominant. Our second line of Richards, Carter and King was also a serious threat, and we were able to move Penner to the third line.
TL;DR: we had a shit system and under-performing players for most of the season, but it all came together at the end.
