Boys I've been out of the loop with Ninty so, what are people expecting out of this ?
Hardware presentation ?
Games ? Which ones besides Mario kart and Metroid ?

One main thing I want to know is will it enhance Switch games? Even if they just release those details in a press release afterwards.

Apart from that, Release date, price and launch games.

Going to be funny/annoying seeing all the "leaks" the day before. Smart from Nintendo to do it the day after April Fool's so no one will believe any of the leaks.

  1. A brief hardware presentation and reconfirmation of backwards compatibility. They might make a reference to higher resolutions but won't talk about RAM, DLSS or any other aspect if the actual specs. They'll instead talk about the mouse functionality and any feature like that
  2. Price, release date and updates to NSO
  3. First party games coming in 2025, including Prime 4, Mario Kart, 3D Mario and some new IP that uses the mouse control. Other possibilities include Donkey Kong and Fire Emblem 4 remake. They also have some remasters like Kirby Plant Robot, but not sure they'll want to show that at the Switch 2 reveal event.
  4. Third party games coming 2025/2026. They'll want to promote some ports of big games the Switch missed (RDR2, Elden Ring, BG3, Assassin's Creed) but also future titles that aren't out yet (Metal Gear, Dragon Quest). I'd also expect some new third party games to be announced here.

I think we're getting a Donkey Kong + Mario game. Nintendo redesigned DK, gave him a big role in the Mario movie, opened a DK theme park at Universal, remade DK v Mario on Switch last year, saved DK94 on NSO for one month before Switch 2 direct, and there have been rumors of an EAD-developed DK game for years.

I think we’re getting the most ambitious Donkey Kong game yet.

DK played a huge part in the movie and takes up half of Nintendo’s theme parks.

They’re gearing up for something big.

Most important thing is whether we're going to see cross gen stuff for me.

Seems like it's a big commitment to leave so many potential sales on the table from a business pov.

I'd also like to see a switch 2 specific IP to compare. Something like animal crossing for example.

And also like to see if games like the XCX: DE get an uplift in their performance and settings.

These are the things I expect to see in the presentation, and I'll be furious if they are missing:

  • Improvements for current-gen games. Some upscaling and FPS boost. They must be free or very cheap.
  • Some kind of achievement system. Tracking for secrets and collectibles would be enough for me. I don't need it to give Nintendo coins or anything like that, but it would be nice.
  • I hope we get a new Mario Kart at launch and maybe a 3D Mario. But I’d rather not get my hopes up for the latter since I didn’t like Odyssey at all.

If the console and game prices aren’t too high, that would be enough for me to get it on day one. I'm ready to be disappointed.

So you say it would be their own controller like the DualSense? That would be great.

By their patent, everything would be in the joystick, which has never been done before. Imagine movement of the character or an object being directly affected by forces in joystick. Oscillations can also make it feel like rumble with a wide range of Hz.

Character walking in mud would have viscosity according to it, hard to push around.

Imagine a character sliding on ice where suddenly you have no more resistance in the stick, it doesn't even recenter by itself like every sticks have done for the past decades.

ZFQFXko.jpeg

They have fully control of the joystick feedback and viscosity. The viscosity can become so hard that they can clamp an axis fully, like say only X-axis remains for a side scroller.

I think it would be fucking cool. The patent can remain dormant but I really hope they show this.

I did find it funny that you were really asking if there would be hardware and games in the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct. I used the right emoji to convey that. Especially since you were in the Switch 2 announcement thread. But I accept you may have forgotten.

Happily enough, Woopah has provided a response for you.

Not convinced - the joycons are tiny and the travel on each stick is almost the smallest of the big 3. Haptics, vibration feedback and adaptive force on all controllers are vastly overplayed by a minority and are usually more annoying to most players after the first few hours of a new game.

This would likely be the same, I don't get this drive to make simply controlling your character a challenge. It's like the era of realistic 'bloom' where you couldn't even exit a tunnel without waiting for correction seconds later.

Its a longshotz but I hope we get SMT VI news since smt producent said to keep an eye on 2025 for some exciting news
It would be hilarious if Atlus just do the same thing for SMT6 that they did for SMT5. Announce it with a vague trailer on April 2. Then release the game 4 years later in 2029.

I really hope they have learned from that lol. Wait was abysmal. Took like 2 years until we got vague 90sec trailer at end of random direct after announcing nocturne remaster.

We are now 9 days away. Hype is building.

I'm looking forward to see what MK9 is all about.

MK8 on the Switch is the ultimate MK game. Including DLC, it has 96 tracks. Even the base game has 48 tracks. Not to mention the pitch perfect gameplay. MK9 will need to be extra special to make it more appealing than it's predecessor.

I agree. MK8 Deluxe is pretty much the perfection of the Mario Kart formula. I wonder what they gonna do for MK9. Especially when Switch 2 is backwards compatible.

I'm lowkey pretty excited about Switch 2, but it still feels a bit mysterious in terms of actual hardware capability. I might actually try to get it on launch day, now that I think about it.

Switch 2 is pretty much the first time since the Gamecube days where I feel Nintendo is in line with my personal expectations when it comes to the hardware itself. It has BC and can probably play the whole Switch library i.e all the games I missed out on. Last but not least Metroid Prime 4 is finally coming. Unless it's priced outrageously (which seems unlikely) those reasons are more than enough to justify jumping back on the Nintendo train again.

That would be great, it is an extension of the same idea as the DualSense dynamic triggers but I would totally see its use and something I would like to see in DualSense 2 with PS6 too.

Sure it is an extra point of failure for expensive controllers but it can be designed to be durable and it would add a lot of value to gameplay. Controllers are important for immersion, something they MS undervalued a lot.

Curious to see two things, on top of the games :
- what new offerings will be brought to the NSO (hoping for pretty much all SEGA 8 and 16 bits consoles and add-ons) as well as improved compatibility for the NSO controllers (being able to configure the buttons, basically)
- if there will be support for patches on current Switch games to get better framerate and resolution is developers are willing to put the effort. Many recent releases could benefit from this and help publishers get a surge in sales while they make their next game

They have to try something totally different for it to best MK8.

It wasn't just the track numbers, but the antigravity feature was the best gimmick in a MK game. I'm keen to see how they'll make this standout.
Show me the new Monolith Soft game and I'll be happy.

Isn't this supposed to be a medieval fantasy game?

Might have to wait a while for that one. I don't think we'll see it until 2027.

IF GameCube is coming to NSO, it seems likely that Dreamcast is also!

Especially after Sega CEO stated last Xmas that Sega will no longer make “mini consoles” and they were Happy with NSO money.

I bet we'll see a metric ton of last gen ports and some current gen ports like SF6, I'm hopeful for an actual SSF6 reveal there.
I'm mostly excited for Nintendo's onw games and what they can do with the new hardware, Silksong and maybe Etrian Odyssey.

my bet is still on a focus on more Singleplayer content.
and I could totally see them doing an open world campaign mode, or at least multiple hub-worlds that are decently large and have missions like races, time attacks, and other challenges.

the teaser in the Switch 2 reveal, with the scale show, seems to tease this imo.

I hope so.

I've been playing the shit out of XCX this weekend and I can't wait to see what Monolith have in store next.

Fuck, I'm so hyped for the Switch 2.

I'll get a Switch 2 just for the Monolith Soft games.

Hopefully Nintendo is throwing money at the studio because they deserve all the resources they ask for.

Switch 2 joysticks are estimated to be +~20% bigger diameter and they protrude more than Switch 1.

In their patent the interesting thing is that there's nothing mechanical about it, entirely electromagnetic. Thus also has the neat effect of being hall effect joystick and gone is the drifting.
