As long as $400 can buy me a Nintendo New Sexy

:D
(dunno why people believed me... Nintendo would never release a $400 console)

So all this bad news about the 360 spec will come out in about a week?

strange news about MS they have the money how they make such a mistake?
You can't force technology to advance even if you throw money at it. Engineers need time to tweak the process, etc.

Bullshit. No system this gen will have a physics processing unit. You guys read way too much B3D without having a damn clue. If any system was to actually have one, what makes you think it would be Nintendo? What's the last Nintendo game you played that used a realistic physics model? A PPU would have to be the biggest waste of silicon in a game machine considering most game worlds are completely artificial and thus don't need the processing power of an entire chip. It would be smarter to pack in a high-powered audio chip or a DVD burner or something. Let this PPU bullshit die once and for all. PEACE.

Where were you with math class? 60-70% of 3.0ghz lies more in the 1.7ghz-2.2ghz region.

in terms of processors, why would they have trouble getting to 3.0GHZ. I haven't followed the dual core too much, not until Longhorn becomes more of a reality with a release candidate, but, I can't see IBM having trouble like this

Can someone explain me the point of a "high-powered audio chip" I mean sure sound is important but were there even big advancements over the ones used in current gen audiochips?

I don't think there is much use for them going forward. Audio is not going to have the same level of processing needs that grahics are going to need.

Besides, its the Penis Processing Unit(PPU) not Physics. See New Sexy and Gamecube sex screens for more details.

A PPU doesn’t have to process real physics to be useful.

Also, maybe the reason we haven't seen extensive physical this generation is because the power wasn't there for it. I this upcomming generation we are going to see a lot more going on in this area as developers struggle to make their products different than the rest.

I think henceforth all reference to Nintendo Revolution should hearby called

"New Sexy"

Examples:

WOAOA!?!?! Did you see the New Sexy YET?!?!

and

Damn. Nintendo got some serious New Sexy going on.

or

So I was alone last night in my room after I got back from the bar, and I put on some Miles Davis, ya know, I was feelin' the vibe, so I dimmed the lights, reached down..... took it out.... and played some New Sexy. Was everything I thought it was going to be, and SO much more....

Actually, if you wanna get technical....

I said Really Sexy first.
And then you copied it, but "changed" it to New Sexy.

But I digress.

haha, either way its a funny story, sorry I jacked your NS.

I just meant I said Really Sexy first. And then later on you said Real Sexy.

I just meant it for the Nintendo RS. I was just trying to be funny with my story, and I thought sourcing you would have detracted from it. Nevermind. It was stupid. Now we are killing this thread.... or are we?!

I know, it's for collision detection, etc... But what's the point? It's totally not necessary. HL2 has a great physics engine and doesn't need a PPU. Next gen processors will be more powerful than what PCs have today, so it's totally pointless unless Nintendo's really going for something crazy next gen. Seems to me that putting in a whole chip just to do physics is a colossal waste of silicon. I've said this from the first PPU rumor until now. It's fucking bullshit. If I'm wrong, you can rip me a new one from here to the middle of next year. But it makes no sense whatsoever. That PPU won't be cheap. It's basically another FP cruncher. That's not cheap. Why not put that money into the GPU? Better graphics will do far more to sell the system than a physics unit.

The PPU rumor seemed to crop up as a means of closing the gap between Cell and the XeCPU. Since it's been all but confirmed that the Xbox2 won't have a PPU, I don't see why this rumor persists. Nintendo, of all companies, doesn't need it. Considering the vast majority of the games sold on their systems comes from them, and that next to none of their games employs complex physics, this rumor stinks to high heaven. BTW, how do all those chips factor into ease of programmability? :rollies: The guys over on B3D gave up on this pipedream a month ago, and they're more knowledgeable than the average GAFfer, especially the average Nintendo fan. But don't take my word for it. Prepare to be disappointed.

These specs look like someone took the Xenon specs and bumped the numbers up slightly all-around. What process are these chips on? 4 cores sharing 128K of L1 and 512K of L2? Color me skeptical. Of all the supposed specs leaked to date, the Revolution ones make the least sense and have the least supporting evidence. At least we have patents to support the 360 and PS3 rumors. PEACE.

I do agree with Pimpwerx that the PPU is the one thing on the list that makes this rumour a lot less likely to be true imo. At least, when having a first look at the list and when you look at the current generation and the games Nintendo created for GameCube.

But it could of course be that this PPU would perfectly fit in with Nintendo's 'revolutionary' gameplay plans. Perhaps the new control method would require or benefit a lot from very advanced physics processing.

I know little about microprocessors, but do the four cores have to be identical? Could one or two be altered slightly to allow for specialist physics based instructions? Or similar to the rumours about PS3 not giving developers full access to all Cell chips/cores? (for whatever reason in PS3's case)

/talking out of my ass.

In theory, yes. Cell is assymetrical. It has 9 cores, one of which is different from the others. It acts as the "director/coordinator" tasking the other 8 cores to do stuff. It can also handle a lot of code itself. You could conceivably have one core coordinating the other 3 in this Rev chip, but then those cache specs would be wrong. I don't understand what the 128K of L1 means. That's can't be shared. 32K of L1 per core seems too small for this gen of processors. I believe each SPE on Cell has 128K to itself, and overall it's like 1.5-2MB of total cache on-chip. I should look again at the spec to make sure, but it just sounds really phoney to say the least. Take these specs with the whole goddamn salt flats. :lol PEACE.

I have a friend who works at a pretty big developer here in the city, and they recently got some tools and documentation from Nintendo for the Revolution. He's essentially told me that Nintendo's gone all out with the console, and doubters are in for a few surprises. This developer is interested in the Revolution, which is pretty big news to me. Although I'm not a fan of their games...

I guess we just have to wait a few more days.

I love the Revolution speculation. It may not have any third party support, but the console itself sure kicks the crap out of everything else! :lol

At the very least, Nintendo is always the most interesting when it comes to speculation. Unfortunately, last time they failed to deliver. But I think things are definitely different this time.

If you mean "in the city" as in New York City, then you mean Atari 'cause its the only one around here. Which sucks.

Dude I totally agree, a PPU in any next gen consoles would be pretty much useless at this stage IMO, I think the CPU's will have enough grunt to take care of any necessary AI and physics be it real or unreal, however I doubt anyone will be disappointed if a PPU doesn’t show up in Nintendo console (or any other console) these specs were confirmed as fake, and weren’t even posted by the real aries who himself may be posting fake info too.
