Nintendo Shares Plummet following Switch 2 reveal.

Mr Reasonable

Completely Unreasonable

I did not see this coming. Nintendo to get burnt for not changing the formula enough?

Are you confident that Nintendo will dazzle with the full reveal? Will you be buying shares to cash in on some easy gains once the stock bounces back?

Will fans welcome Nintendo with open arms once they show Mario "wait, which version is this?" Kart for Switch 2?

Are Nintendo doomed?

Nintendo shares have taken a tumble after the gaming giant’s hotly anticipated reveal of its follow-up to the Switch left some fans disappointed.

The Japanese gaming company’s stock price fell as much as 7.2 percent on Friday after a teaser video for the Switch 2 suggested the console would be broadly similar to its wildly popular predecessor.

The company recovered some of its losses in the afternoon, with its share price down about 4.2 percent as of 4pm local time.

“Nintendo played it safe. Switch 2 looks underwhelming at best and a completely unexcited rehash of the same old same old at worst,” gaming YouTuber TwoQuickOnes said in a post on X.

While Nintendo’s teaser did not provide technical specifications, it showed a device with a nearly identical appearance and form to the original hybrid console.

Compared with the original Switch, the new console has a larger screen and features controllers that snap on to the device instead of sliding into place as before.

I think their issue is they did not show enough. The trailer was so vague. People have been waiting a long time and to only show that little bit and reveal almost nothing is disappointing. Also, the release date is concerning. This thing should of been out and now they are waiting til April to have a full reveal? It may not launch til Holiday 2025. There is little on the OG switch to get excited about until then. Too many unknowns.

The stock was rising leading up to the release, and it dropped after the release. Meaning the market isn’t optimistic about it.

Which I personally will agree with. I think unless you’re a Nintendo fanboy, there is little reason to buy a Switch 2.

Nintendo has always appealed to casuals. But casuals don’t care about using a joycon as a mouse for instance.

I think the system is heavily overrated.

Omg, they PLUMMETED??!? 😱 Didn't expect this kind of reaction to the reveal, but yeah, a drop of 4% in shares basically proves Nintendo will join Ubisoft on the chopping block this year.

And I know that because I follow youtuber TwoQuickOnes, one of the most knowledgeable voices in gaming.

Fucking retarded article, written and shared by similar kind of people 🙄

These posts (and inane articles) literally make my balls drop.
Take a look at the chart, the shares simply peaked during the reveal and begun a spike a couple of days before because there were already rumors on the reveal date.
They "plummeted"... yes they plummeted from their own fucking spike, which often happens during product reveals.

Now they're back where they were before mid-january. Why ? Because Switch 2 is obviously fucking priced in the shares since months.
And you just need to look at the charts themselves to understand this. Nintendo has been posting less revenue and profit YoY quarter after quarter and yet the stock is up +10% YoY (yes, you read that right).
Literally nothing after the reveal changed for investors.

You mention no specs and no game line up.

No shit. Gamers are interested but not excited. The normal everyday is just going wtf?

After so many freaking years you'd be expecting them to show novelty and to redefine handheld once more.

Instead they showed a very short video demonstrating almost nothing but a slightly different console than the current.

Years of patience deserved a full fledged out reveal and to be novel. I think everyone is on standby by now, the feeling it leaves is disappointment.

It feels like they rushed to announce it just to get ahead of the leaks with the real announcement being months away. I wouldn't be happy either.

What are people expecting? Revolutionary ideas every generation? Switch was the second iteration of the Wii U concept and it was a winner. The only way to revolutionise following that would be to throw it away in favour of some other unproven and unnecessary idea.

Nintendo may have fallen short with their initial reveal, but this is an improvement on a winning model that was never going to reach the heights it's predecessor did.

Those shares aren't staying down for long, the games will be shown and people will undoubtedly love them.

It may not launch til Holiday 2025.
That’s the plan - build stock and make it the most hot item for Christmas. Everyone will want one, everyone will buy one. Everyone at work will be talking about getting one. That sort of hype is priceless.

And after holidays you suddenly have massive user base hungry for more games…

This is just people knowing that the 1st few years of a console is low returns

By selling it at a loss?

Sales are one day off, people sold, stock plummeted, then it closed with an upward trend.

The article says "left some fans disappointed." True, some are disappointed but considering the feedback from the YT trailers it's hugely positive.

Nintendo is a long position and the fact that the Switch 2 got such a good fan response should keep stock going up in the overall picture until games are shown.

Nintendo main problem is that one blunder is all it can take to bring it down to its knees.

Which is why they are trying movies to diversify. Took them long enough. Unfortunately they can't apart themselves too much from their IPs to try something new like vehicles or golf for example.

Zero chance of this, they're not running expensive public hands-on marketing events throughout April and May to launch in November. This thing will be out in June, July at the latest.

I wouldn't read too much into that, but worth keeping an eye on going forward depending on how Nintendo handles the rest of the reveal. People thought this thing would drop in March and now we're looking at September or something? lol... it's fucking impossible to predict what Nintendo is going to do because it defies logic.

That's how stocks work.
Sell now to avoid taking a loss in stock value.
Rebuy when stock is low.
Switch 2 becomes a mega success
Sell when stocks are super high.
Profit

People aren't disappointed but the money men can see that this thing isn't going to be out nearly as early as expected. It's looking like a lost year for Nintendo.

Switch 2 will be a day one for me and I'm here for it but just a bit disappointed that it's going to be a few more months before the next info drop and then who knows how long before I can actually buy one. I'm so ready to move on from the Switch 1.

Lies, damned lies, and statistics. A tale as old as time.

I can't say for sure if Switch 2 will be a success or a failure but if it is a significant failure in any way, I'd be fucking shocked.

THAT'S IT! NINTENDO'S GONNA GO THIRD-PARTY! THEY'VE LOST.
The annoying thing is that the signs were always there, but Nintendo were just too stubborn to see them. Glad we have knowledgeable games journalists and content creators like the amazing TwoQuickOnes pointing these things out and letting us know how things REALLY are.

And thanks for joining that effort and sharing this article, OP.
