A very good movie.

The two parts of the film are very distinct and not redundant. The sets and costumes are almost a character in their own right. It's good to see a director taking care of such details.

Good performances and Lilly Rose is pretty incredible, especially her possessed gestures. It doesn't surprise me that she and Eggers have rewatched Andrzej Żuławski's “The Devil”. There are a lot of references there.

If I had anything to complain about, it would be :

The scene where Franz (Dafoe) burns down the mansion is perfect and we should have stopped there with him. Seeing him again in the bedroom to explain what we see/know doesn't add anything. Plus, I can't see him running as fast as Thomas to catch up. Eggers should have stopped at the mansion for Defoe. But anyway, maybe it's the fact that everything has to be explained to the viewer, in contrast to The Lighthouse.

But overall, I really liked it.
And Lilly's nipples are worth the detour.

Her performance reminded me of Isabelle Adjani in Possession. She also played Lilly Rose's character in Nosferatu (1979).

There is no way the cello at the 9th minute is not a Bloodborne reference. It's literally the first four chords of the Hunter's Dream.

This was great. Really, really enjoyed it.

Was kinda iffy the first 15 minutes but there's a solid hour or so where's this overwhelming sense of dread and misery, that was awesome. The finale was great as well.

Amazing movie.

Wait....are you for real or is this a bit?

Don't play with my emotions here, am I getting an Eggers werewolf movie?!?!? I don't think you understand how excited I will be if this is real, and if you're fuckin around I will never forgive you.

ALSO, literally minutes ago, just announced he's making a sequel to Labyrinth. Guy is on a mission!

It’s been a big week for Robert Eggers.

A day after Focus Features’ announcement of Werwulf, which he’s set as his next film on the heels of Nosferatu, we’ve learned that the filmmaker has closed his deal to write and direct a new Labyrinth film for TriStar Pictures.

Holy fuck, literally a dream come true. No shit, I've complained for years about the lack of a truly great werewolf film from an auteur director. This is exactly, to the t, the director I would choose for a proper werewolf film.

In my veins. Now.

Finally got around to watching this, and it seems like Eggers is incapable of making a bad movie (so far). But like The Northman, it's not perfect, and The Witch is still his best IMO.

The acting was mostly top notch (shout out to Willem Dafoe being amazing as always) but I thought Lily Depp's performance in particular was very uneven. Maybe it's because she was surrounded by much more experienced actors but her line delivery felt wooden at times. Sure, she's not as bad as fellow nepo baby John Washington but... like I said: uneven, to put it nicely.

a profound film, although I didn't enjoy it as much as i did the witch and the light house. I saw it as an allegory for mental illness and addiction and how these two things can ruin not only your life but the lives of everyone else around you.

I would say there’s also a clear metaphor of Orlok as an abusive rapist/predator: the fact he first approached Ellen when she was underage, and how while in the second half of the film he insists Ellen must submit to him willingly rather than him forcing himself on her, however he’s making it clear he will murder everyone she loves if she doesn’t so he’s still a rapist through indirect measures and an abuser by utilizing violence or threatening violence to make her do as he says.

Watched it again on the OLED, and it's one of my Top 10 movies of all time, definitely my favorite vampire movie. I just think the death of Orlock should have been more gruesome, or at least the lead up to it. They made him out to be evil incarnate, which Eggers succeeded beautifully, wow, Threeeeee nightsssss, that guy has SERIOUS problems lol. I would rather live the nightmares inside the movie Hereditary, my last "traumatizing" movie, than be locked up with Orlock for 1 night. That whole scene where she wakes up and is unable to wake him up, I was not expecting that, truly evil. The death scene should have been more fitting, but I get why it went the way it did. What a movie.
