There is a pretty significant reason to suspect numbers like that considering it's only one source who said not 30 minutes ago 'whoops we can't read lol.' We'll know once a second source confirms Gamasutra's new math.

Not surprised at all at the Wii U having poor sales. Wii was a fluke. Nintendo was just dumb enough to try the same thing twice without realising how much luck was involved in Wii succeeding like it did.

Edit: If the Wii/Wii U comparison was revenue, the Wii U would be 230k or so for January. I doubt its revenue though, but 55k seems too low even if Decembers sales were atrocious.

DMC4 had a fairly big marketing push behind it. It was their first major tentpole release of the generation, and it had a lot of hype behind.

I'm sure that DMC4 benefited from releasing much earlier this generation, but I honestly don't remember the marketing being all that better than DmC's. DmC also had reviewers and media riding it all the way for some odd reason.

But why WOULD they pick up in the coming months? Assuming we have reached a bomba of this magnitude, people clearly don't want the thing. It's arguably overpriced, there's no fucking marketing, casuals still don't seem to know that the thing exists and/or that it's actually a new system and not an add-on, and there's nothing significant coming out for it in the near future.

Some of the recently announced stuff looks rad like X, new Mario shown at E3, etc. But that does nothing to help them now, and on top of that this is the slow time of the year as-is. Pikmin 3, Lego Undercover and 101 should already be out at this point, and we should have a solid date for Bayonetta and god forbid something else to look forward to. Awesome looking titles that are WAY out (as in probably not even this year) aren't going to sell units now. What is?

If I was Nintendo I would put 100% effort into getting Wii Sports U out and waiting on Wii Fit U. Nothing may do last-gen sales this time around, but even hitting 15-20% of Wii Sports sales would be huge.
