Nvidia driver have been bad lately or it’s just me?

I keep getting black screened every day now. Have to restart every fucking time.

So I'm not losing my fucking mind. I am experiencing this every day as well (black screens, game restarts) and I just submitted another RMA for my GPU. I've done literally everything to mitigate this damn Nvlddmkm.sys error.

It's driving me fucking nuts! Using LatencyMon and I am getting huge spikes out of nowhere too.

Feels like unstable memory to me.

I was considering this as well...but MemTest86 passed for me. Is it possible that it can be the RAM even if it passed memtest86?

Maybe your computer wants to play good games for a change?

Indy is pretty good. Spider-Man 2 though… maybe the system decided it had to commit sudoku before OverHeat OverHeat could go through that! 😉

On a different note, I love PC gaming and it’s by far my most used platform, but this thread perfectly illustrates why some folks prefer consoles.

Sadly yes because ram issues are hard to troubleshoot, my ddr5 was unstable and I had to adjust manually some things... xmp and expo are really not that helpful sometimes.

I would recommend that you go here and read this thread because this program is very good for troubleshooting and when your ram is unstable it will fail fast.

Nope, everything is rock solid. Even played around with inspector to force the newest DLSS and I'm even on 24H2 :messenger_sunglasses:

Is that not just a side-grade anyway?

What's your thinking behind it?
Significant upgrades in RT and I want to give this DLSS upscaling a go. Seems FSR4 ai upscaling won’t come to my 7900xt so im salty.

I scored a 5070ti for $1,200 CAD all in and already have my 7900xt sold for $800. I’m finding out that my price was too low as it got a ton of attention and sold within an hour.

I’m also concerned with “introductory” pricing and tariffs that will drive pricing higher. Figured now may be the cheapest time.

Historically speaking, Nvidia had more bad driver releases than good ones. So this is just par for the course.

This is why Nvidia will always win. Because of how important good drivers are. I feel like with the decades of work they have already got on older games it would take an AI breakthrough to help AMD ever catch up.

I know, for a decade the AMD fans claim they caught up or the difference is negligible.

NVIDIA's problems with its latest flagship RTX 50 series "Blackwell" GPUs continue. First, it was melting power cables, then stability issues, and recently, the case of missing ROPs. Today, we got a confirmation that NVIDIA is investigating users experiencing significant stability problems, with reports of widespread black screen issues and system crashes since the launch of the dedicated 572 driver branch. Unlike owners of previous generation cards who can roll back to stable drivers, RTX 50 series users are particularly affected as no alternative drivers are available for their hardware. The problems span across the entire RTX 50 lineup, including the 5090, 5080, and newly announced 5070 Ti models. Users have reported issues ranging from display flickering to complete system failures, with some experiencing blue screen of death (BSOD) errors during normal operation.

The situation is especially problematic when using advanced features like DLSS 4 frame generation. NVIDIA staff member Manuel recently addressed these concerns on the GeForce Forums, confirming that the company is actively investigating the problems. Preliminary investigation suggests the issues might extend beyond driver software, potentially requiring VBIOS updates to resolve the stability problems fully. Some users have found temporary relief by reducing PCIe speeds below Gen 5 or lowering monitor refresh rates to 60 Hz, suggesting potential firmware-level compatibility issues. However, these workarounds are not guaranteed solutions for all affected users. The latest driver update (572.47), which added support for the RTX 5070 Ti, failed to address these critical stability issues, including only a single bug fix related to monitor wake-up from sleep mode. This has left many early adopters of the RTX 50 series frustrated with their premium hardware purchases.

Nvidia is just having a hard time managing all the benefits you're surely getting from that Windows 11 install.

Reverse groomer.
This is a known issue with Nvidia's latest drivers.

I'm still on 566.14 on both my machines (a 4080 and a 4090), no issues here.

my philosophy w drivers is to never update unless necessary

im still using dec 23 drivers on my 6650xt, couldnt give a fuck

little issues here

I went to update to the newest driver for my 4090 on the app and mine just black screened during the update. I had to do a hard shutdown cause I couldn't get anything to work. I used DDU to uninstall and same thing. So I reverted back to the last driver update. Everything is working fine again. They need to get their stuff together.

Is dying 😳

Nvidia's way of telling you they're disappointed you don't have a 5090 yet.

Seriously though, so far no crashes with my 3090, but all I'm playing lately is The Scouring Demo and Beyond All Reason (epic open source supreme commander clone).

BTW sell your 4090 to me when you finally do pick up the 5090 and accompanying extinguisher 😆

It's not just you. I switched from my rtx3070 to an Rx 7900xt because of constant driver issues.
E.g. always when I tried to open a drop-down/combobox control in the driver's interface, I had to wait that the options load for multiple seconds. Seemed like the ui waited for a windows search to show up. Even reinstalling windows, changing the CPU, Mainboard, memory, user account did not fix the problem.
Also there were the other driver issues the thread creator mentioned.

I never understood why and drivers have such a bad reputation while Nvidia had got so good. For all I can say that I never had more issues than with Nvidia drivers. AMD also has some issues, but not so many.

I recent saw that nVidia broke something with Vulkan 2D rendering, which has a workaround but could still impact people. Worth knowing about.

Haven't noticed any additional issues recently, all R570 drivers are working fine for me.

Also the vast majority of people complaining are coming from 24H2 where MS has enabled MPOs in 10/12-bit display color.
These are still rather flaky and come with a bunch of issues which you can't really solve - display black outs are highly likely to be due to this change in particular.
As for 50 series the cards are the first to (mass) market with PCIE5 and DP 2.1 - both are bound to produce a number of compatibility issues with PCIE raisers, motheboard layouts and older/longer DP cables.

I've only experienced a performance drop once over the past few years of updates, so I don't have many complaints. However I've seen a lot of reports about black screen issues with the latest drivers, especially on newer cards, and I was a bit worried while updating to the latest driver. But it's working fine as of today.

Not being able to install the latest DLSS(profile k) for "all" games through the nvidia app and having to use a program like nvidia inspector(which is pretty cool) for that is a complete mess. It took me a day to understand and implement this. An average user wouldn't be able to access these features. However, since they've made DLSS 4 available for older cards, I might be willing to overlook it.

OR it's Windows 24H2 getting in the way.
This is the answer in 90% of cases.

I've read about so many issues online that is more related to this particular update than to Nvidia's drivers. In fact, I've known people personally who had issues. My brother, for instance, had a black screen flicker issue after a few minutes and naturally he first thought about faulty GPU drivers or even the GPU itself. Nothing helped (roll back, newest driver) until I told him about this Windows update. He went back to the previous version and the issue was gone.

Ass of Can Whooping Ass of Can Whooping Just read your post and this is the same issue my brother had. Check if you have the Windows 11 24h2 Update. If so, go back to the previous version.

The option to go back expires 10 days after the newest update, though.

Nvidia’s latest 572 driver release causes trouble for more than just the upcoming RTX 50 series graphics cards. Feedback on the official Nvidia forum shows that RTX 40 and 30 series owners experience the same issue. Users with older cards can roll back to a previous driver, but RTX 50 series owners don’t have that option and must rely on Nvidia to fix the problem.

Right after the 572 driver goes live, reports of black screens flood in from RTX 30 and above card users. Nvidia acknowledges these posts on the forum and confirms it’s investigating the matter, but so far it hasn’t announced any specific solutions.

I've been having issues with Indiana Jones. It would just quit out of nowhere like in 20-30min of playing.. thought my system was not stable or not.
However latest MB BIOS update (even though it wasn't that old..) + driver re-install seemed solved the issue. (9950x + 4080 Super)

Same as above. I was having issues, updated my bios, and then installed latest nvidia and was fine. I'm part of the intel CPU batch that needed to be patched tho so... fun.

New driver is out and still getting that damn black screen on my 4090/AOC monitor. It doesn’t seem to affect my Samsung QN90C tv hooked up through HDMI. Just Displayport. Had to use DDU and install driver 572.42 again. That seems to be the last stable update for me.

Nvidia’s latest driver updates from the R570 series have been causing headaches for RTX 50 but also RTX40 GPU owners, now referred to as gurus. Many have been experiencing BSODs, sudden crashes, and system freezes—especially when using features like DLSS Frame Generation with G-Sync enabled. This all started with the 572.xx driver that brought support for the RTX 50 series, but it didn’t take long for these problems to pop up in gaming setups running titles like Cyberpunk 2077, Alan Wake 2, God of War Ragnarok, and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. Gurus have tried rolling back to older drivers, like version 566.xx, turning off Frame Generation or G-Sync, and even reverting DLSS settings, but the issues still persist on some older systems.

The evidence shows that while Nvidia has released several hotfixes aimed at stabilizing the RTX 50 series, those fixes don’t seem to cover older GPUs like the RTX 40 and RTX 30 series. This means that even though some workarounds provide temporary relief, they often come at the cost of missing out on new features. The community’s findings highlight that the new driver updates, especially those enabling advanced features like DLSS Frame Generation, are not yet fully reliable.

I have 0 problems with Nvidia drivers, I'm on Windows 10...

Game crashes, system freezing when gaming…all happening since the last 2 drivers update…PC gaming can sucks sometimes
For me it's a mix of Drivers and Win updates being hot shit.

upgrading my RAM from 32gb to 64gb recently has seemed to stop some of the crashes and freezing.

But also don't forget about ol UE5 the hot shit mess that never runs on PCs anyway. It's very hard to pinpoint an issue these days when there is so many factors attributing to the cause.

The only BSOD I have on 572 drivers has started with IJ update and not the 572 drivers. So yeah, grain of salt and all.

Like most bugs, they show up in certain circumstances. It depends on the game, OS, settings, etc.
So not all people will have the same issues.

I have the driver relative to when they released dlss4 for the first time and they had been pretty stable, i stopped upgrading drivers for every game, 90% of the times they run worse with dedicated drivers.

I have 0 problems with Nvidia drivers, I'm on Windows 10...

I have zero problems on W11 24h2 with all the updates.

nothing here anymore.

when i got my 5090 there were random display signal drops. not sure if it was the driver or not. i switched to DisplayPort and hasn't happened since. first time it happened i had to reboot my PC but the other 2 times it happened the display came back after a few seconds.

would also get some notifications to send a crash report to nvidia but if i wasn't for the notification i wouldn't have known anything crashed. haven't had any in a while.

that's the only bother i've had. i'm on W11 fully up to date. my entire PC is up to date. BIOS, windows, gpu drivers, even my monitor firmware :)

I had to reinstall all of windows because I got log in screens that were all black. There might have been another way of solving it but I was just concerned in fixing it permeant. After reinstalling windows went to the nvidia app it showed the new driver. That specifically patches out that issue. And I skipped it because I didn't want to recompile shaders at the time.

Nvidia drivers seem to only really come out when a new big game is releasing. I don't think they hotfix much. Because this issue should not have gone down like that.

Updating to every game ready driver is nonsense anyway the performance gain is a placebo and the only "game ready" stuff they add is that the game functions with geforce now and that it has a working sli profile.
