Nvidia has reportedly killed production of all RTX 40 GPUs apart from the 4050 and 4060 as affordable 50-series GPUs could arrive earlier than expect

At least, so says a report on Board Channels (via Videocardz), claiming "Nvidia has completely shut down the AD106 production line, with all its capacity reallocated to the RTX 50 series lines. Only a single AD107 line is temporarily retained. As a result, the RTX 40 series has entered its final quarter of clearance, with mid-to-high-end RTX 40 GPUs gradually halting production and supply. "

This news follows earlier reports in September of Nvidia's plans to end production of the AD102 chip found inside RTX 4090 and 4090D graphics boards. For the record, the AD106 chip is used for the RTX 4060 Ti and RTX 4070, while the AD107 is for the 4060 desktop and mobile and 4050 mobile.

The implications of all this are clear enough. If Nvidia is winding down the RTX 40-series family, whatever follows it must be nearly ready for launch. If you assume a typical launch schedule, you would indeed expect Nvidia to wind down high-end GPU models like the 4090 first, given the company typically rolls out premium members of any new GPU generation on day one, with more affordable variants emerging over the following months.

If there is anything surprising about this rumour, then, it's not that some Nvidia RTX 40-series GPUs have stopped production, but that quite so many have. Current rumours suggest Nvidia will unleash the new RTX 5090 and 5080 graphics cards in January, very likely at the CES show in Las Vegas.

Hope they fix all the stuttering on PC games.
No amount of hardware upgrades can fix a software issue in the OS and game engine. DirectX 12 and UE5 are the problems there.

Interesting that they are keeping the 4060 and 4050 chips going but I'll assume it's more because laptops that contain them are big sellers do to affordability.

Also I believe the 4060 is the most owned card of the RTX40 series.

This is engine/OS side. Unless somehow they would reinvent the concept of what a shader pipeline is (goes back to GeForce 3) and somehow talk the same language the API is sending. I seriously doubt. It’s a big problem, even epic engineers which are no slouch, have not found the solution.

Come to me 5090.

maybe in my dreams.

Fixes already exist and Nvidia can't do anything.

MS how?

Changes to DX12, to make it easier for developers to implement pre compile and other things. I heard Vulcan is better in this aspect, RDR2 is smooth as butter.

Main culprit is epic here, games on their engine had shader stutter, traversal stutter and all other kinds of stutter over the years. They need to fix their shit ASAP.

These might bring the overall average up to the standards of consoles.

Since most of the GPUs used on Steam aren't.

Just buy a PS5 Pro instead of wasting your money on this to play indie games.

Buy Pro to play old games? Some of them got patches, some not, some patches are great, some are terrible. You are on a mercy of developers.

After upgrading GPU EVERY game is better.

Pro will be worth it once GTA6 launches (maybe it won't be 60fps but for sure with much better IQ).

These might bring the overall average up to the standards of consoles.

Millions of GPUs are on PS5 level or above. Show me % for PS5 Pro.

The 5090s will be amazing for playing Skyrim and Half Life for the 50th time.

I bought a sex doll, but I keep it inflated 100% of the time and use it like a regular wife
What game(s) warrents a 5000 card over a 4000 card?

You already getting 144 fps @ 4k?
Well for me a 4070 is enough, but if you want 4K + every possible bell and whistle in the upcoming games then a 50XX might be what you need.

or paid troll
Is that a thing? Are people out there making money by shitposting on forums all day?
