192-bit memory bus means either 6 or 12 GB of VRAM (since 1.5 GB GDDR6 chips basically don’t exist), and they decided 6 wasn’t going to be enough for the card.
That’s also part of why the 3080 has 10 GB of GDDR6X and the 3090 has 24 but with chips on both sides of the board - 320 or 384-bit bus respectively and only 1 GB GDDR6X chips existed at the time.

Basically it's a great workstation card for content creators and the like, which can also be used for gaming, but won't outperform 3070 or 3060ti with less memory.

3060 12GB means 3070 16GB and 3080/3080ti 20GB variants incoming. I've been barely surviving on a 2060S 8GB, but maybe it's a good thing I didn't get a 3060ti/3070 8GB, since now I can didn't get one with higher VRAM capacity.

Because the bus doesn't allow 8GB.
192bits is either 6GB or 12GB (unless you do the MS exotic setup).

I can see a scenario where RTX 3070 will get choked to death when using max quality texture in a future game from a studio like id Software whereas the RTX 3060 will have no such issues.

Here's an extreme e.g. at 4K.

Performance gets dragged down when you're VRAM bound. Look at this!

Hold off on getting your RTX 3060 Ti and 3070, people.

My thoughts on RTX 3060 is positive. I can see it being toe to toe with XSX/PS5 is rasterization, or slightly below (depending on games), should be able to handle higher quality textures than consoles in next-gen games. And you get the usual DLSS, faster RT perf, full DX Ultimate support, and now resizable bar support too, for all the 20, 30-series GPUs.
