NX Gamer: Monster Hunter Wilds - PS5 Pro vs PS5 vs PC vs Xbox Series X|S Performance Review

The engine is dog shit for open world games. Also time to admit devs have been getting lazy with memory management, PS5/SX have around 13.5GB's of RAM and some of the textures look like they are from the PS3 gen. WHY do you need a 16GB GPU to get PS4 era textures?

The game is very good. It is just that the engine Capcom is using is very bad. Just imagine if they are using Decima engine, that will surely be a night and day difference.
"very good." don't understand that. besides the shitty graphics. it's jibber jab through terrible menus and inventory systems. head out to a huge monster that you can defeat without getting hit. mash triangle, then circle, then both together. repeat repeat repeat. monster runs away. get on shitty controlled bird and run 100 feet to his new location. repeat. get a bunch of shitty "loot". go back to the shitty camp and battle the menus again. HOW IS THIS FUN??? is there anyone that didn't GROW UP WITH THIS SERIES that finds it fun? did you have to be 9 when you played the first one and have some deep nostalgia for it all to enjoy it? i keep jumping back in thinking something is going to click only to laugh how shitty it is and quit after 20 minutes.

Those textures take few GB of video memory.
The RE Engine is just garbage.
The first UE5 demo (PS5) used 8K textures.
Capcom's way of using VRAM is broken.

The Matrix demo is still arguably the best looking thing on the consoles with Hellblade 2 being the closest thing in terms of fidelity but then that gets criticized for being too linear etc etc.

It's probably not feasible for a game with the scope and dynamic systems of MH to match the very narrow focused UE5 tech demo.

The game plays great on ps5 pro, but the textures are shockingly bad. I can't believe a AAA game in 2025 has textures from 20 years ago. It's absurd.

Compared to the game's situation and performance in the beta... all versions improved somewhat (which isn't a merit because it was horrible and criminal). Of all of them, the XSX version has been the one that evolved the most.

Sadly, and as I pointed out in the DF thread, critics and the media still fail to punish games with poor performance (very blatantly in favor of Japanese studios), and this is leading to more and more cases of this type.

You're not wrong lol

But I still kinda have fun....it's definitely quite a bit overrated and could be a lot better. Had much higher hopes that Wilds would improve the formula a bit. In some ways, yes, in others....it's mostly just the same.

It's kind of sad that this mess of game, which goes well beyond terrible visuals and performance, is the best selling in the franchise. What will be the lessons learned? And yes, I'm part of the problem.

translation: We´ll get more insufferable story with disruptively bad pacing and writing using the same broken tech.

Looks like a late PS3/early PS4 game.
Bought it yesterday for £50 at Argos, currently playing in the 40fps mode and it feels OK to play. Colours are horrible.
Couldn't bring myself to buy the PC version even though it was cheaper, benchmark ran like dog shit.
I'm fine with that level of details without the jaggies and lower fps count, everything else is acceptable. Let's be honest, even a 2011 average title looks okay to me, we've reached a point where %90 of the games look and gameplay by designers choice, not hardware limitations.

For Capcom since the formula works for many fans there is no need to change it. Its very accessible and easy. Well, not all games have to be Soul system , which I also enjoy. The innovation I'm looking for is VR. But I do hope there is some kind of VR features. That could be cool killing monsters on MW on VR. My psvr2 is so ready if that happens.

Like The Matrix demo, Hellblade 2 is also a tech demo with next to zero AI.

LOL are you kidding? The Matrix demo has an entire city and AI systems processing and more gameplay layers than Hellblade 2.

Remember you can fly through the city in the demo? Definitely not linear.

Capcom did fumble something with the RE Engine for Open World games. MH Wilds is surprisingly worse in most aspects than Dragon's Dogma 2 as it uses mostly backed lighting and the texture streaming issues weren't a thing in DD2 besides the Series S port that doesn't really say much as Series S isn't used as parameter for anything. Idk what to say but Capcom needs to get their shit together.

Capcom needs to throw this engine in the fucking trash unless they are making a linear, slow paced game. It's absolutely garbage for large scale, open areas. Dragon's Dogma 2 was bad enough but this is just silly. The worst part isn't even the final games performance, it's the fact that they had to compromise as much as they did with the graphics because the engine is so terrible. The game literally looks like it's a gen or two behind other AAA releases. Hell, even RotR looks significantly better.

The performance is unanimously dogshit, across the board.

I think there's just something wrong with the game itself because in the camps my frame rate dips down into the 40s no matter the settings or even resolution. For shits and giggles I tried 1280 x 720 and the frame rate still dipped into the upper 40s in camp. Put it back to 4k and got the same results on an RTX 4080 Super.

Those textures, consoles are shit.
Nope, the RE engine that Capcom is using here is the culprit. If the consoles can all run something like Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 excellently, then it isn't them that are at fault here. That's silly.

RE works wonders for the Resident Evil games, but its limits are clearly shown here with Monster Hunter.
