hmm, I can spin in my heels faster than that and completely smooth
there are no cables, man. You can spin forever

I hate snap turning. I turn all my turning to smooth. Snap makes it worse for me.Snap turning is good if you play in a large play space and you get close to one of your walls. You can turn yourself and then snap turn and continue walking in your play space.
It’s good to have both options.I hate snap turning. I turn all my turning to smooth. Snap makes it worse for me.
yeah this wasn't Alyx. I haven't bought that yet. This is a sidequest game engine that turns the original 1988 half-life 1 (and blue shift/opposing forces) into a full vr game. You hold the crowbar and swing it. You are there as gordon freeman. It's so cool. The thing is the right hand controller where i would suspect you would use the stick to turn only turns in 15 -25 degree blocks so you can smooth turn. Kinda sucks once you get to enemies to fight. Skyrim vr has that teleportation movement or using the right stick to turn, and you can adjust it. I didn't see any options for that here.Pretty sure it has smooth turning on alyx..........I wouldn't of played with snap turning (it was a while ago i played it tho)
Unless I just never used the turn and moved my body instead
Thats plenty as far as i have found. I have a ryzen 5 3600 , and evga 2060 sc ultra, w/ 16gb ddr4 and ssd. It runs all my games non vr over 60 and on vr i haven't seen any issues. Of course i have only played skyrim, and a few demos on steam vr, so maybe something won't run, but skyrim was running great.Yeah I do actually! (I think anyway)
Got a build with 32GB ram, ryzen 5 3600xt and a EVGA 2080S , hoping that's enough to run PC VR with the quest 2? I already was looking at beat saber for sure and maybe FitXR to get some cardio in during lockdown, are there any good "fitness" games?
You can do via wireless
Can you download apps from sidequest wirelessly?

I still need to download doom3 and quake 1 and 2 engines, as I have those games, maybe those have smooth turning, i hope. It wouldn't be to bad either if it turned based on where you are looking, but it doesn't seem to do that either.
snap turning a very important for a large group of people.dude, you're in a headset without cables - just turn your body as if you're there in person. There's no smoother turn than that and nausea-free to boot. Far more immersive than analog stick.
snap/smooth turn discussions don't belong on Quest

smooth turning can make a LOT of people really sick
nm i was commenting on snap turning compared to fluid turning..there's zero nausea when you turn your own body. Are you even reading?

also you don't get tired with spinning like crazy in VR ?
games like alyx ?
fuck that
It’s faster to turn with your body than using a stick anyway. Plus with no cables, you don’t need to worry about wrapping yourself up.Just yesterday I was getting VR sick after only about 10-15 minutes. I just finished ~ an hour and a half straight session of Boneworks and I feel fine.
I'm pretty sure the reason I'm fine is because I started turning with my body instead of the analog stick. I stand on a mat and don't really leave it. If I want to turn left down a halfway I turn my entire body and then go forward using the left stick. I try to 99% avoid strafing and basically move around like a tank.
After tweaking Virtual Desktop and getting used to playing completely wirelessly, I don't think I'll ever go back to the link cable. Maybe for seated racing games. Maybe.
I don't think I've ever been as immersed in a game as I just was in Boneworks... amazing :O
VR is amazing.
I'd be interested in hearing your opinions on them as I'm considering getting some for my rift. I've currently got my sports goggles wedged in there but it's not the best solution.Got some prescription lenses today, will give them a few days but ehh so far. Wish you could completely replace the oculus lenses instead of clipping them on top.
I don't experience lens fog with my glasses so can't comment on this being a solution. So far they are fine, I am kind of hungover so not in the mood for VR today but will try tomorrow. Just messing around in the menu/youtube 360 it was cool just annoyed to have to clean both sets of lens pretty extensively. They even showed up with smudges since t hey click right in I should not have to clean the oculus lens again though just the outside of the prescriptionI'd be interested in hearing your opinions on them as I'm considering getting some for my rift. Also, f lens fog.
What kind of latency are you getting? The total number on the left when you bring up performance stats? They activated my ShadowPC account today, so I installed the Virtual Desktop app, Steam, and some SteamVR games. In this manner, there's just a Quest 2 headset on my side, and the gaming PC is setup in the ShadowPC cloud.
It works surprisingly well. Very close to what it feels like to play on a local network via Virtual Desktop. I wasn't able to complete a song on Expert+ because of the lag, but Hard difficulty worked just fine. Which is still impressive.
I don't know how to bring that up. Virtual Desktop app says latency is about 52ms.What kind of latency are you getting? The total number on the left when you bring up performance stats?
That’s pretty good for a cloud pc.I don't know how to bring that up. Virtual Desktop app says latency is about 52ms.
VR would be unplayable with 52 ms latency, imo, it would feel like wading through soup!I don't know how to bring that up. Virtual Desktop app says latency is about 52ms.
If the total latency is 52 ms it really isn't. 75 ish and up is probably where you notice it though. That's just his desktop latency though. My desktop latency is 20-25 ms but in game with video buffer enabled to keep it from stuttering, and at 72 hz with slice rendering enabled I get 48 ms and its perfectly fine.VR would be unplayable with 52 ms latency, imo, it would feel like wading through soup!
It feels like Wireless Desktop on a local network with another 10% latency on top. Not bad at all.VR would be unplayable with 52 ms latency, imo, it would feel like wading through soup!
I got around to testing that and ShadowPC is 52ms(Desktop)/70ms(VR). Local Virtual Desktop is 17ms(Desktop)/61ms(VR).If the total latency is 52 ms it really isn't. 75 ish and up is probably where you notice it though. That's just his desktop latency though. ShadowPC logs you out of your session after 30min idle, so you'd need to wake it via a phone/PC/tablet, then Virtual Desktop can sync. I'm about to try the Shadow .apk sideloaded on the Quest 2. If that works, then you could do it all right on the Quest 2.That’s pretty good for a cloud pc.
what is the log in process. Can you do it entirely within the Quest?
Which router did you have before and which new one did you buy?I had stuttering issues with Virtal Desktop. I bought a new router and did a complete fresh install of my vr pc and it’s all good. Completely smooth.
Be careful with GPU monitoring programs, I heard there are stutter issues with them + VR on certain NVidia driver versions.it's for monitoring GPU usage, CPU, usage, framerate and even frametime
I had a standard Virgin Media router.Which router did you have before and which new one did you buy?
Have you tried enabling video buffer? What kind of router do you have? I’m using a UniFi Dream Machine and it’s been great. Also what codec are you using? Hevc or h.264? What bitrate are you using?I'm on my 3 week vacation now and a bit sick, so I'm playing through Boneworks and Half Life Alyx for the first time. I don't even have the words - this is incredible. Absolutely incredible! I'm in gaming BLISS!
Only problem is that I'm playing using the link cable instead of Virtual Desktop. I'm still having problems with it. It's a bit stuttery whereas the link cable is smooth perfection. Not talking about latency here, but stuttery. My latency is usualy 29-35 which I find perfectly fine.
I bought from steam and app called "fpsVR" ( it's for monitoring GPU usage, CPU, usage, framerate and even frametime ) and it was well worth the money. If you're on the fence about paying for something which many believe should be free, it's only $3 just do it and you'll be very happy with the results.
I've watched a few vids about optimizing Virtual Desktop but I can't seem to figure this one out. If I set the framerate at 90 then the framerate fluctuates in the 80's and it's showing frametime spikes which is what's causing the stuttering.
If I set the framerate to 80 then it stutters just as before and the framerate fluctuates in the 70s. If I set the framerate to 72 then it fluctuates in the 60s with the exact same frametime spikes.
I can set the streaming options to low medium or high. It makes no difference.
I can set the graphical options inside HL:Alyx to low, or Ultra. It makes no difference.
It's not a performance issue. It's something else.
It's not unplayable but it's bad enough that here I am using the link cable when I'd much prefer wireless. The link cable has me locked at 90fps and is butter smooth. The performance and smoothness it's perfect! ... but there's a stupid wire. Shows my GPU usage at about 80% so I still have some headroom and the frametime graph is nice and smooth, no frametime spikes at all.
There are quite a few videos with people who have overcome this issue so it's not that Virtual Desktop is at fault here.
I have an AC 5ghz router but I'm starting to think it's a cheapo and not quite up to the task. Thinking of buying a new one.
Anyone else here ever have the same problems with Virtual Desktop? Any advice?

I do love Jurassic Park, but I wasn’t sure either of the gameplay from some videos. Surprising you picked The Room, just doesn’t get a lot of attention. Although it is the best rated out of everything I listed it seems. The Room VR or Walking dead. If you are a fan of Rick and Morty, Trover might be a good choice too.
Just avoid Jurassic World, game is honestly not good, feels very low budget and gameplay loop is boring unless you are a huge fan of the movies.
can't stress enough how important a good router is,,I had stuttering issues with Virtal Desktop. I bought a new router and did a complete fresh install of my vr pc and it’s all good. Completely smooth.
