Okami Announced | The Game Awards 2024

CapGod keeps delivering. Damn. Onimusha? Okami? We eating good. In a world where so many devs fail to make games prosper with their ambitious or woke shit, Capcom stands as a beacon of light showing there’s room for good ol’ game design with little to no scope creep. You want a new genre? Sure let’s budget that, let’s not go too crazy with the graphics (Eg. Kanitsu, ExoPrimal). Oh you want a remake or remaster? Ok, but you gotta push the engine forward with some RT (Dead Rising) or Hair simulation (RE4). We have room for a huge project, let’s go Wild with Wilds.

Let them make Onimusha however they want and Okami however they want. We have RE9 coming soon for the purists, and Power Stone 1 & 2 next year for the nostalgia overdose.

In CapGod We Trust.

Imagine how good a new Okami would look in the current year.
You don’t have to imagine anymore:

Okami never needed a sequel IMO. I was much more interested in Project GG. This is awesome news, though, best announcement of the night hands down. But I don't think this will come anytime soon.

I don't know if it's because I played it before Zelda, but for me, it's one of the best games ever. Even though I probably played the worst version of it(ps2), I still enjoyed it a lot. Those who say they got bored probably played it recently(or spoiled by Zelda games). Great news!

The trailer said it wasn't gameplay it looks like it's what they're aiming for more that what it will actually look like. Of course, the style will be very close I assume, but the technical implementation will make it look different for sure.

The best news is that Clover is back. I never really liked Platinum besides a few games. I felt they lacked the financial backing and technical expertise. If Okami lands well, VJ3 isn't out of the realms of possibility. And a new DMC. Who knows.

Wasn´t Clover staff at Platinum? I remember Okami and VJ art director being there in madworld/bayo days.

I loved the first game, but I could see why it never got a sequel (until now).
- Difficulty was all over the place - it was mostly way too easy, and then had absolute bullshit moments like that last Blockhead.
- the game was so chock-full of references to Japanese myths and folk tales, that at times it didn't feel like it was made by actual Japanese devs but by some weeaboos (and I'm using this term in the most pejorative meaning possible here).
- the final boss was the biggest WTF moment in gaming I've seen; both its identity itself (you're fighting an incarnation of darkness... that somehow is some weird alien foetus in a mecha?); and the fight (easy enough that you could brute-force it without bothering with your powers, but what powers you had to use felt completely random). Nobody about that thing made sense, and it ruined the whole experience for me.

Again, still loved it, so... 🤷‍♂️

so I missed the show last night and while working this morning saw that Capcom bring back both Onimusha AND Okami. both I love, especially Okami. played through it like 3 times back then and have it on all platforms I own. the music, the gameplay, the backdrop and everything about the game was just perfect for me. I can't wait for this to come out!

Platinum struggled from the beginning but they did amazing things imo with the small budget and time they had, Bayonetta and Astral Chain specially, the attention to detail for an action game is 👌

but also their games like Wonderful 101,MGS Rising and Transformers the latter two where rushed but still good , i hope they can still work on good projects rather than fade away because im sure there is still plenty of talent and potential there, im hoping to see Astral Chain 2 😁

Yeah a bunch of Clover staff went to work at Platinum, other part where absorbed by Capcom to work on Resident Evil not sure what will be the case today but still should be enough staff to make a great game i don't think Capcom would make this announcement without their full backing

Is the original game worth playing today as I've never heard of this series before.

It's available on steam for £15 but it does look a bit strange.

Never played Okami, but I hope we're entering a renaissance for these types of adventure games with non-human characters. And cel-shading!

Definitely. If you like games like The Legend of Zelda I feel like you’ll likely enjoy Okami.

OkamiDen on the DS is very good as well if you can find it, even if it’s not up to the same caliber as the first.

I’m thinking of booting up the Wii version, should still be around here somewhere I think. I just hope my Wii still boots.

Excited but I feel like this is a stupid long ways off. Like hopefully before 2030? Geoff even said "development is set to begin..."

Capcom has become the force in the industry unlike any other. Hell, this run may even trump Squaresoft's 90's run. If they stick the landing on this and Clovers does a sequel justice, this will be a god tier run for a company that has just be absolutely crushing it over the past 5 years now.
