Wake up player, time to install the new firmware update

I've not once had this issue since like the 7th gen consoles. Everything happens in the background.

I've only had to update controllers when I connect them for the first time.

Or Gaf is just PC-centric. Which explains why the general consensus of Gaf is so wrong about how games will perform all the time (this is made worse by the average of 50+ on Gaf).
I'm not even talking about GAF though, I mean with all of the games coming to PC these days compared to in the past where most console games didn't come to PC at all
On top of all the other benefits like powerful hardware, free online, customization, etc...

Fair enough.

But didn't we have a thread recently about market shares in UK, showing the console-market was bigger than PC?

Granted, it's just a single market.

This

Now we travel back to say mid 1990's

I had both, but each was a total different experience. Console games for the most part, stayed on console and emulation was in it's infancy really.

Classic thread where consolebros say stuff like "but I like playing on my couch!" or "damn driver updates kidnapped my wife!".

Seen those a hundred times, always as funny as the last time.

Thanks, and nice. Those are glasses free and work like the New 3DS?

I am a little disappointed it's only a 27". I still have my Acer HN274N which are 27" 1080p screens that had a build in 3D Vision emitter and worked with consoles and Bluray players. I've gotten so used to ultrawide it would be hard to go back.

I did see that some people are using ReShade to add SBS 3D as well.

Yes, glasses free. The Reshade 3D using Super Depth 3D isn't as good as it's only using the depth buffer info from the game.

Consoles for me, but the way things are going (consoles, games, subscriptions prices going up; few new games interesting me) PS5 will probably be my last console. I mostly play older games now, and any interesting PS6 games will probably be cross-gen with PS5 for a good few years anyway.

PC. Not even for bleeding edge graphics. Quite the opposite. Flexibility and frugality. All my old games are now HD Remakes. I busted out Blur earlier in the week. Looks great downsampled from 4K at 165fps. Same for all my old stuff. Most of gaming time is spent on replays and older titles, so PC is a no-brainer.

Having built really big collections on PS360 and seeing real value of what is on those discs: 600p 30fps with massive screen tearing versions of games I can get on Steam for sandwich prices and run at modern standards. Not to mention if patch servers ever become scarce.

I spend a lot of money on retro gaming stuff, PS2 gen is my cutoff. After that, the only benefit of physical games is resale. For me, I'm so happy resale wasn't available for Steam games. Lord knows I would have sold most of my old shit to buy new and would have lost access to a lot of games I go back and play. (Just Cause 4 is amazing now that PCs can actually run it btw.)

Sometimes I eyeball the PS5s at Costco and imagine myself playing a lot of GT7, but then in 10 years that PS5 is going to be another dusty thing to box up every time I move and the GT7 is gonna feel like a GT5 when I flip past it at the flea market.

Both for me since my childhood going between early Atari, Intellivision and Commodore 64, then an NES which was great with the Commodore. That lasted until I finally got my own system the Sega Genesis. I do support modern PC gaming but rarely play there as I don't have a good enough PC for newer titles(save for budget indie stuff) and my setup is weak with an old small monitor, whereas I prefer console gaming since I like having actual physical copies of games and it just feels better to me overall.

PC is badass in its overall functionality and freedom however, and consoles are poised to dye an ignominious death thanks to their own greed and hubris. But I do miss the days when PC's still had optical drives and nice chunky boxes with tons of goodies. Only when I buy new film releases do I get posters, cards, books and plenty of extra features it seems, though PC does have some side stuff too with art and OST. But I love the working around specific feature sets of consoles and older PCs from yesteryear.

I have been playing on consoles for about 3 decades, longer than PC. Despite that I choose PC here

Mostly because i have grown wiser and older, I guess. Nothing beats having the best range of game selection, cheap games and other benefits.

Anyone who has tried PC gaming is going to say PC. It's literally no contest. Valve and Steam's ecosystem is the biggest reason for that.
