What kind of tattoo are you wanting to get? Tribal? Traditional? Realistic? Black and gray?
To do a half sleeve of just text in a banner or some such may be a little strange, but your artist may be able to come up with something. Have you thought about getting multiple different tattoos and then tying them together with filler? That's what I'm doing. If you're doing a half sleeve for your kid, then that whole piece needs to reflect back to that, I think.

I've been itching to get tattoo'd, but couldn't afford a big piece right now. Fortunately my tattoo artist didn't mind doing something small for the cheap.
3 of the 5 birds from "the earth is not a cold dead place", the others will be fit in with the bigger piece surrounding it. That's on my forearm, but right on the wrist bone and a little up.

I'm going to do something similar (I don't have kids yet but plan on it, so I'm leaving a blank spot on the arm)
I was wanting to do 2 bears down below my elbow to represent me and my spouse, both looking up into the night sky (on my shoulder) at the Ursa Major and Ursa minor bear constellations (to symbolize our eternity). In between I wanted to do something for each kid that we have in the future....probably a different bird or animal in the sky between the other 2 pieces.
I'm going to represent them through symbolism rather than words.

I wonder if someone could help me out here! I´m gonna Do a Tattoo in 2 weeks and I have decsided to go Japanese. Can some find or do someone know the japanese signs for "Hate" and Sick" (like Slipknot "Sic")

Seriously reconsider getting a Japanese text tatt. They are epically played out and unoriginal.

Its from a reference, I gave the artist a few ideas verbally of what i wanted the piece to represent. then starting looking for interesting imagery involving pandora. He really loved one piece I showed him and we ended up using it as a reference for the whole tattoo even though he normally does all the custom work himself.
this was the reference used:
the only thing i hate about the way I chose to have the piece set up is shaving. when you have a full sleeve and shave your arm it looks awesome, when I do it well it makes me feel feminine so i usually only shave the tattoo'd area itself and not around it.

Got my Cthulhu tatt done finally. Over 7 hours in the chair, 14 different shades of black, 4 shades of gray/white, and the result I couldn't be happier about! It's starting to peel today, and I have to go back for some touch-ups at the end of next month.

I am looking into getting my first one done sometime soon, about how much does a decent sized one cost? I was looking into getting getting this done on either my upper bicep or back. I am not sure if I want the red color background or not.
Might look pretty neat in a black and grey without the red color background. Price all depends on the quality of the artist. They can be as cheap as $50 an hour, but you wouldn't want that.

So quick question: So Im looking into getting a 3/4 sleeve tatt of what Im not sure yet. Have a few designs in mind. Obviously Im gonna do my research and find a good place with a talented artist. But how long does a 3/4 sleeve take to complete? It cant be done in one sitting right? You need to heal before coloring? Also, what's the average price I should be expecting to pay?

I wouldn't attempt it in one sitting. Ask around, find out what the respected studios are in your state, check them out on facebook, look through their photo albums from their artists, go interstate if you need to, I would go for outlines and maybe some shading in one sitting. My artist charges $165 an hour, that's in Australia though, and he's more expensive than many but also not the most expensive. But he's also fucking brilliant. Just ask, don't be afraid to ask an artist anything. If you see someone that grabs your attention, call that studio, ask what does x charge per hour and what difference colour makes. As for timing I could'nt tell you that, all artists work at different paces. You'll want someone that's going to take their time though. I would start with 5-6 hours as an ABSOLUTE MINIMUM depending on the level of detail.

Also, how much would a cross tattoo on the inside of my forearm cost...about the size of an iPhone4?
It pretty much depends on detail and quality. Its really hard to say without an idea of the style of cross you want.

My half sleeve took three sittings, each about 2.5 hours long. You have to heal between the outline, shading, and coloring. I ended up paying about $1200 for mine, not including tip.

That's pretty steep for a half sleeve, but so long as you're happy with the end product, that's what counts.

The location affects how much people charge, as well.. My experience has been that good tattoo shops that are well established in bigger cities tend to be the most expensive. You definitely get great work from them, but if you search harder, you may be able to find someone just as good outside of the city, or at an up and coming shop. Also, it doesn't hurt to stick with the same artist, or artists as there tends to be a "street price" that they quote to people they don't know that walk in off the street, and a price that most artists will quote to friends or regulars. If you can get into the latter place, your wallet will appreciate it. But obviously, don't ask for hookups, as they get that all the time and need to make a living just like everyone else.

Price was the factor I considered the least. It's a piece of custom designed artwork that's on your body forever and you are collaborating with an artist to execute it properly.
I waited for years to have it done because I wanted to find the right artist to work on it with and save up the money to have it done well. Once I started working with my artist, I know he spent a ton of time creating the illustration the piece was based off of. Between his time doing that and the time he spent actually tattooing me, I feel like I made an excellent investment.
You don't have to spend the same amount I did to get a good tattoo, but I'm much more interested in working with talented artists than trying to get work done under a certain price.
Mine is a cover up in progress. See if you can tell where my old one was. It's visible still, but she'll go over it again near the end of the process.
Here's my Zelda WW chest piece. This was done very recently, and I'm sorry to say that it turned out much worse than I thought it would. I only have one more tattoo, on my side, so this one feels rather "unbalanced" on my body - it just covers too big an area. Also, I'm not too happy about the waves on Ganon's side.
I'm posting it here partly to get tips on what to do with it.
I've thought about laser removal, but it would cost a shitload of money, and I don't really want to risk having to leave with a huge scar across my chest for the rest of my life.
Right now I'm thinking about expanding the Ganon side to a half-sleeve, with something in this style, maybe have it cover the waves too, hoping it would help it help it blend in better with the overall aesthetics of my upper body (it sounds weird, I know, but it's the best way I can put it).

I've thought of that, but where? The original artwork features no color other than Link's tunic, and adding color would only make the tattoo feel "heavier", which I want to avoid.
Yeah, but "not that bad" is not what I was going for, and definitely not what I paid good money for.
The triforces actually don't look weird when I'm not moving my arms much, but they do make the tattoo too wide.
Laser removal keeps sounding better, haha.
