Bad hardware. Great software library.

It wound up being the PlayStation console I used the least. The Xbox and GameCube stole most of the gaming time I had that generation. I missed out on most of the games people look back on as amazing classics.

They're buying every piece of hardware ever produced still out there to improve the total number, but Switch is going to surpass that anyway at this point. Is over, rest now.

I had one (it was my last PS), and I think I only ever played GTA VC, Tiger Woods 2003 and the Tomb Raider Legend demo on it.

It was a Xmas pressie from my wife, but I had a good gaming PC at the time and it never got a look in. It didn’t help that it sat in the living room and I could never get on it for her watching the TV.

Ah, memories.

160 million dvd players. Not saying that it wouldn’t have done well without it. But the first entree level lowest priced dvd player during first launch years at the time helped a lot. Some individuals just bought it for that, not a game machine.

The PS2 was truly a three entree console. PS1 games, PS2 games, and DVD playback.

That's made not sold. I owned two PS2's, I'm not doubting it was popular but Sony are claiming that 160+ million were sold, that picture if it is proof says 160.6 million were made, and that's why it doesn't make sense. Things like the yellow light issue that PS2's had would have led to lots of replacements but those 2 numbers can't account for them.
Unless you stole those PS2s directly from Sony or got them replaced, it’s likely they were sold, no?

And they are telling you it sold over 160M.

If you two want to believe that in 13 years of production that Sony didn't replace, lose, have damaged in transport, stolen or gave away any more than 636,884 consoles allowing them to sell at least 160,000,001 consoles then that's fine. I'll think the number etched in the picture has to be incorrect if they did sell 160 million.

Sure, but then it’s the same for every other manufacturer. 85M Xbox 360 sold includes the myriad replaced because of the RROD hardware failure. Can’t single out the PS2.

That's going to be the case for any console. Are you going to suggest Xbox or Switch sales numbers are actually less than reported as well?

That applies to any console 🙃

Actually applies to anything sold.

I would bet that the Switch could pass it thou. It's still selling well, but PS2 was selling hot cakes even when the PS3 came, and chances are that when the Switch 2 arrives, people will forget the original

Amazing, i've been playing some of the PS2 games in release order and its fun to see the evolution of games that way. 60fps was more common than you would think thanks to field rendering.
Are they building up to some big reveal though? Its nice they recognize their history but it would be great if they could improve on their emulation efforts.

Where have I said otherwise? I want to know the exact total of sold PS2s, that picture claims they produced over 160 million but by such a small amount that it's unlikely they could have sold 160 million. So let's ignore it and go back to my original post.

"If they know the total, they should say the total."
