PS5 Digital should in theory be cheaper to produce than the PS5, but the lack of units being made will likely make that a bigger problem for Sony. I expect Sony to continue limiting how many are made and maybe in another year or two drop the Digital model entirely.
LOL, you can't just mention the sanctions off-hand without delving into the reasons as to why the sanctions happened in the first place. That's like complaining that a dog mauled your leg without mentioning that you jumped into a fenced enclosure that says "Warning, this dog is vicious".Sorry, but I'm not getting into that discussion on neogaf in the gaming section.
Fact is, Western economies are collapsing due to the sanctions.
These price hikes are a result of that.
MS buying SEGA confirmed? Would be the perfect answer to God of War Ragnarok, if they hurried I bet they could even cancel the PlayStation version of Sonic Frontiers.Luckily we have competition from Sonic Frontiers this holiday.
I'm now backing Pentiment to outsell Fraud of War Cashnarök.Imagine how arrogant they'll become if the extra costly PS5 does well with God War Ragnarok releasing in a few months.
I don't think Pentinent is going to do it, we are going to need something else to put Jimbo in his place.

You know what's funny? I can't tell if that's a gif of Pentiment or not.I'm now backing Pentiment to outsell Fraud of War Cashnarök.

Make it happen daddy Phil. For the good of the Realm.
Wtf is happening in Japan.
Feel free to quote me if/when MS follows suit and marks up the Series consoles. I'll gladly eat crow and admit to being an asshat if I'm wrong. A global economy effects everyone, but the way a corporation adjust thier operational cost, debt management and product pricing is up to them. There's a number of measures a company can take to hedge losses or retain earnings. Digging deeper into the customer's pockets should be the last one imoYour right, Sony should reduce the size of the RAM, SSD and heatsink to keep the PS5 cheap.
Is this the first time a company has raised a console price after launch?
Price at release was too low anyway. Sony lost a lot of money due to this. The should have released it @600/650$€. Even with this price tag the consoles would have been sold out everywhere.
Jim Ryan, the first ever gaming boss to increase the price of a console in the middle of a worldwide recession.
(I don't count Quest as a console but heyho it looks even worse to be copying Facebook)
That's the funny part. That they were profitable with PS5
Insurance premiums too. Working in real estate, HOIs have been INSANE compared to a year ago. Some analysts are even saying your premiums on auto, home, life, etc, have the potential to DOUBLE in the next year. We're in a world where everyone is hiking up interest rates, except Japan
When the competition totally and utterly fails, this is the outcome. All this image tells me is who is in demand.
Atari, Sega, Mattel, Amstrad, SNK, NEC, and Commodore
Meanwhile the suppose competition
And people wonder why Sony can get away with it.

RIP PlayStation 5, died over a $30 price increase. Not exactly a positive sign since they're all dead.
They died in my heart today.RIP PlayStation 5, died over a $30 price increase.

Microsoft revises prices for Xbox Series X in India again; Increased by 8% to Rs. 37,990Is this the first time a company has raised a console price after launch?
Not defending anything, this news means zero to me and and 99% of users here.Come on bro you can't be seriously defending this shit.
And I thought ree was the place filled with the blue fanboys.
Makes you wonder if Sony even sees Microsoft as competition.
Sorry, but I'm not getting into that discussion on neogaf in the gaming section.

Edit:
Btw, don't forget about the tensions between China and the US over Taiwan.
This is what happens when stupid motherfuckers buy hardware at scalper prices all over the world for two straight years.
Good job assholes
If Sony are losing money on PS5 hardware, it stands to reason they are losing MORE with DE just by virtue of the fact that no way are they paying $100 for UHD drives at scale. Not an easy task and they already did cut the costs with the new revision of the PS5 which has a less massiv heatsink with less use of copper.
I wouldn't have thought that the situation is still so tense after one and a half years and that the PS5 is almost never available in retail stores. It's surprising, but understandable, that the console is now even more expensive.
I'm all the happier to be there since day 1 with 2 consoles. I hope no defect creeps in.
Loss maker? Not at all. You are bound to the store with the digital edition and the prices are impressive. The games are sometimes 50% more expensive than the disc in retail stores. After a handful of purchased games in the store, Sony has already made plus with the sale of the digital edition to you.
Yes. But fuel/milk etc. are sold directly to consumer without additional money being made from consumer. That's why it is no-brainer to increase price of your product when you feel that you need to spend more money to make your stuff. Are you living in a bubble? I think your just arguing in bad faith. Prices are increasing across the board for everything. From milk to fuel. Components are going up. Transport has skyrocketed. My local Pizza shops have increased their Parmo prices from £8.50 on everage to about £11 in a matter of months.
A fan I bought over a year ago for £40 is now selling at £60. People are in for some shocks come October/November time here in the UK.
I have more a problem with Sony charging for upgrades and $70 for TLOU.
They died in my heart today.
What? They were never profitable for any PS5.
I also don't forget MS ushering $60 in the 360 era, where prior it was $50 and below.Don't forget, if Jimbo had his way PS5 games would have been priced higher than $70. Publisher influence likely reigned him in.

Sony considered pricing PS5 games ‘even higher than $70’, report claims | VGC
Multiple next-gen launch titles carry the increased price tag…www.videogameschronicle.com
Not the console, but Nintendo increased game prices in 2009.
They were never profitable for any PS5.

So I guess we should stop pointing out Apple pricing practices etc. it is all okay as they provide "great" hardware. It is all okay. Yes we are dealing with inflation, energy price spikes (just to note energy companies, oil companies are reporting record profits, so it is not like they were on verge of losing money). It is more like them checking where is the line, first £70 games, now price increase where most of competents are cheaper than they were 2 years ago. Remastering remakes and selling it again and again. Shitty practices. No one wants to see price increases. But come on dude. People aren't going to suddenly declare the company that provides most of their entertainment is the devil just because they fell in line with almost every single company in the word that reacted to inflation. And if we're talking about normal customer behavior, how many of the people up in arms are even customers? Let's be real here.
Meanwhile the suppose competition
And people wonder why Sony can get away with it.
What?
Sony literally said in august 2021 that they are profitable with base PS5 model.
https://www.onmsft.com/news/sony-says-its-500-playstation-5-is-now-profitable
Of course, Digital Edition was sold with loss.
Not exactly a positive sign since they're all dead.
So every PC player saying they had a RTX GPU was lying? I can believe that.
I also don't forget MS ushering $60 in the 360 era, where prior it was $50 and below.
Why do you do this?
No, MS announced the price increase for the new gen.Bobby Kotich ushered in the $60 price point. Sony wanted it to be even higher than $70.
Why do you do this ?
When did this happen? I remember $60 being the price point as far back as N64 days. And then N64 had games that were sometimes $80. Like that Mortal Kombat: Sub Zero game. Are you saying at some point MSRP was $50?No, MS announced the price increase for the new gen.
In fact, I remember the conference clear as day since I was all in on Xbox back then. They announced $60 for third party (to cover the $10 licensing fees) and "swore" their first party would never be higher than $50... then Halo 3 happened and they raised their first party to $60 with that game going forward. Which a lot of us said would happen back then.
Why do you do this?
Really? Dang, what exactly were the price increases on those?Atari, Sega, Mattel, Amstrad, SNK, NEC, and Commodore (It's a computer but let's be honest it was used as a game console) all have done it. Now you can add Sony to the list.
Disc based consoles were $40 to $50 for games. That was one of Sony's selling point to the PSX/PS2. (You pay more for carts). When did this happen? I remember $60 being the price point as far back as N64 days. And then N64 had games that were sometimes $80. Like that Mortal Kombat: Sub Zero game. Are you saying at point MSRP was $50?

"It's only okay when we do it." - YouSo the first game they increased for first party came 2+ years later, when the entire industry had shifted to $60.
While the article I posted is talking about Sony wanting to increase price even higher than $70. Comparing them is false equivalency.
Why do you do this?
