PS5 Pro gets an 11% discount on Amazon UK

Noticed this on collectorseditions.co.uk, they're really on the ball with price reductions and limited products.

Are Sony experimenting with making this thing cheaper to shift more units? Weird considering the PS5 base just got a price hike.

£499 new with a damaged box at bargain clearance outlets which are few and far between but are Argos owned and their stock.

Yeah it says "frequently returned" in the description so maybe these cheaper models are basically new but with damaged boxes or have been removed from original packaging?

I'll admit that doesn't make total sense tho, because even in such a case the unit itself should be brand new and in perfect condition. And why would defective units keep being returned and resold through Amazon? They'd just eventually get sent back to the manufacturer and (I guess) sent back out as a refurbished unit, not a "Buy New" listing.

So maybe people who bought Pros earlier are simply not finding enough value and returning them quite a bit in places like the UK. Not a great sign for long-term sales of the Pro IMO, at least for that region.

Mine ended up at 780€.

Initially I got a promotion that made it 800€, with drive included (700€ the console, 100€ the disc drive).

Since they lowered the disc drive price this week, I got back to the store and asked them to return the difference.

Pretty banger deal at the end of the day.

I'm guessing maybe lots of idiots bought in order to scalp suckers on ebay?

Or maybe the game drought going from Pro launch to now made a lot of people second guess the purchase of their $1000 digital only console that's only superior than its predecessor if you love the art of pixel hunting. Just a guess :messenger_neutral:

Didn't even think about the scalpers xD, but I don't want to, not after what they did in 2020.

So could be a bit of that, too. Tho like you and I are probably thinking, some mixture of people simply not getting as much out of their Pro as they thought they would've.

At least not in the UK. There was a discussion on the amazon rankings for Pro last year after the launch and while it was pretty high in the US, in the UK it was rarely in the top 100.

Given how similar US & UK have historically been as gaming markets, it's kind of surprising if there's way more demand for the Pro in the former but not the latter. Yet, it does seem that is most likely the case.

Hope for SIE's sake they're looking into UK & other European markets to ensure they don't turn into another Japan (in terms of platform demand decline gen-over-gen). Needless to say some of their business choices for Europe haven't been stellar, maybe (oddly enough) since Jim Ryan left (or stopped having full autonomy over SIE prior to leaving).
