PSN might be melting

With the Driveclub launch, Destiny with the new events, and NBA 2K15 PSN is melting right now, the servers are super slow and friend requests take a lot of time to work.

Is everyone else having these problems??

Protip: accepting and sending friend requests via the PlayStation app is super easy and fast, and it actually works.

Why does this need a thread?

Release day of a big new release. How are people still surprised by this?

Destiny is the exception, not the norm

My PlayStation app is timing out when trying to load my friends' list and none of my friends are showing up as being online on my PS3. Which is fine by me, but I do want to know who's online.

This getting on my damn nerve. Everything is so freaking slow. Now that i have over 100 friends thanks to GAF my friendlist needs forever to load at prime time. Sony should invest some money from all the PS+ subs for better online structure ffs

People are paying $50 a year now to play online on their PS4, it absolutely is an issue and worthy of a thread. If it's dying now during the first 2 weeks of October what the hell is going to happen when things like COD, Assassin's Creed and GTA V come out?

Really? Everything seems fine over at Steam.

Look stop complaining, at least it is free unlike LIVE

oh wait....

edit: I have a PS4. I only make snarky comments about systems I own :P

It should not be like this though. We are paying customers now, and we're paying for a service. Raising awareness about the state of the service (and its shortcomings) will help us all in the long run.

Dying is such an overdramatic accusation. I'll say again that even on my relatively unimpressive connection, im still getting top speeds.

Its very possible that this is over specific regions.

This is Sony's Achilles heel. I'm going to reconsider my Sony "membership" when my ps plus sub runs out next year. Better servers and better way to filter your download list. Come on Sony, up your game dammit.

Not sure if it could at all be related or helping cause issues but a big network provider was down for a while this morning, just got access to internal resources now at work.

UK still logged into PSN, friends list, parties and messagign all stalling. Just tried game of BF4 and crashed back to XMB. Going for a shower whilst this shit is sorted. Weirdly enough, my PS4 just downloaded a driveclub base file ready for preload tomorrow I assume. Nice timing :)

What does Driveclub's, Destiny's and NBA's servers have to do with PSN???

FIFA15 works perfectly online, even indie game Pure Pool works great online.
Are EA still using their own servers? Perhaps that's why. Still I don't quite understand why Destiny and Driveclub would cause the friendslist etc. to break down.

To you the day Driveclub, Destiny and NBA 2015 blew up PSN was a remarkable and sorrowful day.
...but to me it was Tuesday.

Do people really download all the PS+ offerings day of release? I "purchase" them then just sit on them until I want to play.

Why do that, though? If you download them as they become available, then you don't have to wait for them to download and install when you actually do want to play them.

Yeah PSN is a real crap show today...actually it's been the last couple days honestly. Everything is loading beyond slow on friends lists, messages etc.

Download speeds are crazy fast though :/

It's been like this for weeks for me. So nothing new today. Friends list hasn't loaded in like a month. Party chat has barely worked the last 24hr.

Because who knows when I will want to play them, to me it is a waste to just have them sitting on my hard drive.

Complaints are justified now that there is a mandatory pay wall to multiplayer.

Sony better get their shit together moving forward.

Can we just have a dedicated thread for this shit going forward. It seems really dumb to always have these "uh hey guys is psn down right now guys?" threads.

IT has, for everything but driveclub PS+. Classic SCEA wonkiness™.

Hasn't updated here on the East Coast o' USA yet.

I dunno, it's Tuesday. Update day. Lots of people checking it every few mins for their new games, etc in addition to Sony uploading tons of new stuff and companies like Blizzard releasing Diablo patches. So it's slow...I expect this and am ok with this.

PSN has been "melting" since the free weekend. I've been having problem sending friend requests, reading messages, and seeing who's online since then. Everything has been taking minutes to load. Restarting the PS4 works for a short while before it goes back to that slow state. Disconnecting it from the Internet doesn't seem to work either.

It's not just me. Many over at Destiny OT have been experiencing the same problem. It's made grouping up for raids and such a bit off hassle.
