Question For PS5 Pro Owners

I plan to pick up the PS5 Pro for my birthday next week. I have a 4TB M.2 SSD in my current PS5. Can I take it out of one and put it in the other without losing any data? Or will I have to reformat it when I install it in the PS5 Pro?

Yup. Setup the system first, then once it's setup and you've signed into psn, shut it off and put in the SSD.

Looks like others have already answered your question, but I failed to see any congratulations, so hey, congrats on owning the most powerful console ever created.

It works perfectly.

You don't need to set up the console first at all. Just put it in before you ever turn it on.

Yes, no need to format. I do believe there was a person here that ran into issues, but for most people I talked to it was fine. Ideally tou want to setup the new console first, installing whatever firware is needed and logining in before installing the new drive.

TO BE CLEAR - THIS IS NOT REQUIRED OR MANDITORY.
Simply the steps I followed to transfer a full PS5 slim (local storage) and full 4tb NVME to my new PS5 Pros.

Start up your new console.
Once you get past the log in screen choose "Transfer data from another PS5"
Go over to your old console and follow the instructions for the data transfer

When the data transfer is done:
Shut down both PS5's
Take drive out of old PS5
Put drive in PS5 Pro
Start up PS5 Pro and let it rebuild the database.

Done.

Transfer from my PS5 slim to Pro took around 2 hours over my network.

If he has a M.2 installed this is a complete waste of time OP.

Just move anything you have on the internal over to the M.2 (or move what's important if somehow 4TB is too full) and put it in as soon as you open the box. It'll work fine.

yep.
You can only put your games on it though.
To transfer saves you gotta use psn+ or transfer function

You say tomato I say...well what I did on all my PS5 pros.

Either way they will get the outcome they are looking for. In my case my 4tb nvme and my internal storage was full so I used the network option.

I cry about Xbox and hate PlayStation.

I have no issue removing my m2 ssd Gigabyte Aorus and put it on my ps5 pro, no reformat is required, only initial m2 ssd setup in system is required.

cant you just install the disk drive and m2ssd before you start the PRO first time in one go?

I have done it and nothing has happen to my PS5 PRO so far.
