A bit late to the party, but I picked up RE4 RE on black Friday and just finished. I’ve played all of the RE games over the years and really don’t remember much about RE4. I have to say hands down that this was my favorite game of the series. Really looking forward to see what they remaster next. If you haven’t played the remaster yet, I would suggest giving it a shot.

It's so good.
I finished it 2 times in a row... and I didn't do that since re2 remake I think.

Awesome. Did you play through Separate Ways?

Just started the VR mode. Was expecting better graphics than RE Village but… no, doesnt look better.
Also the controls are quiet strange. Have to play more I guess.

Interesting. Village looks amazing due to all 1st person photogrammetry.

So, I finally continued my separate ways save and...there's black crush everywhere? I don't recall the main game being like this, I mean, I'm in the gardens section at the castle and I can't see shit even with the in-game brightness turned to max !

I'm on a PS5 and I have HDR turned to on, people on reddit say that this is a bug and that the HDR is busted in the DLC and that SDR is better but I just find that weird...

Been playing this on Xbox over the last month and have completed it (and Separate Ways) except for the shooting gallery achievement which I am doubtful I can get but I will go back and give it another try.

It is a good game but has some infuriating flaws. It has a habit of frequently snatching the camera away from you and making you look in the wrong direction and then has you fighting with it to regain control. Movement is clunky and animations have to complete fully before you can start moving again, which can lead to being grabbed or killed on higher difficulties. Also every cutscene makes you wait 1-2 seconds before it will respond to the skip button, so you will often press it 2-3 times before it works. How does this get past play testers. I regularly wish my character would get moving when I tell them to, but instead they stay there frozen to the spot or flinch which results in another cheap death.

Professional NG S+ is brutally difficult and the previous advice in this thread to use door skips no longer works as it was patched out. I did it on Separate Ways but haven't tried and probably won't on the main game, I'd be more likely to if there was an achievement.

This would benefit from a speedrun mode where all cutscenes were removed, should also have animation cancelling which would make gameplay a lot more fluid.

edit - I did do NG S+ on the main game after all.

I had the same problem and played in SDR. Weird because RE 8 don't have that problem.

I freely admit I'm a super casual gamer these days and I'm playing this on my Steam Deck but by god do I find this game hard.

Any tips?

Always play in HDR when available and didn't have this problem on my PS5/LG C1.

Now, here's something interesting. This mod for DD"2" - https://www.nexusmods.com/dragonsdogma2/mods/693?tab=files can also add PT to any RE Remake on the RE Engine.

But just like in the DD"2", it works with a shit ton of noise and not everything is parth traced as some objects instead look flat. It's a cool thing though for those who like to play around with Photo Mode (like myself), but RE2/3R don't even have it and idk if there's a free camera available like in DD"2" via RE Framework - need to check. Anyway, here's something to play around with for those who are interested.

Good game. Solid 8/10. Never played the original.

When I first started the remake, the character movement felt like dogshit. Slow animations, which I understand is the point. Stuff like this would almost get me to ditch the game, but I powered through.

Then the combat started to click, it was satisfying. Overall I found it quite easy on regular difficulty, I explored most of the map so I was able to upgrade my stuff a lot. I always had enough health to get by and most bosses gave enough time to analyse the situation and figure out how to kill them first time.

Just restarted new game recently, sooo good just like Re 2 remake

I just don't know why they put the RNG in charms rewards and that you can get same thing again. Sure you can reload and keep retrying but I ain't have time for this shit

You can't even truly save scum to re-roll. After I finished the game once I used a mod to unlock them all and I have no regrets - something I almost never do. But that particular design choice has zero respect for the player's time. I wanted the fast running speed.

Is it worth it to get most of the treasures? What about quests? They seem kind of busy work
There are some useful items to be traded for spinels. One of them is even an exclusive upgrade module to give any chosen weapon its bonus effect.

But they aren't mandatory, so if you don't think it would be fun then don't bother.

Can anyone offer me any tips to get through the barn section of this fecking game?? I've had to park this game indefinitely as I just can't get past it and I was loving absolutely every moment of this in VR but fuuuuuuck me that level just kills me, all my knives break, I run out of ammo and I keep getting overwhelmed, there's far too many enemies, my goto is head to the 1st floor and just shoot down and leave the new guy to fend for himself whilst I deal with the stragglers thay come up the stairs and the ones that pop through the window in the wee room, I can manage to get to when the bullheads appear and by then im out of everything and I'm killed, over and over.. what am I missing other than skills/gitgud, is this an endless mob situation until something needs triggered? Or do I keep fighting on and hope for a lucky break

You have to kill them all and survive. Thats the key..

Git gud

In the original there used to be a few places where you could basically cheese your way through the fight but in the Remake they pretty much removed every single one of them.

When you're in that kind of situation where you're totally stumped and a game seems too ridiculous, the best thing to do is watch a speedrunner doing it on the hardest difficulty.

It won't take long, cause they're speed running but you'll see they know the right place to stand or where ammo is hidden or which door to board up etc,etc to get through it all as efficiently as possible. Usually whatever they do that works on the hardest setting will easily translate to normal difficulty, plus you might notice some trick or strategy they use that you can incorporate in other parts of the game as well. I haven't watched it but here's a timestamp from a pro speedrun:

If that doesn't suit for whatever reason you might try looking up a different speedrun, for example maybe they use a weapon you don't have so it's not useful for that reason

I'm almost done getting S+ on all the mercs maps for the RPD outfit. Never again. The docks are literal hell.

All the other maps are baby mode, but good lord the docks.

Best of the RE Engine remakes.

I prefer the more slower pace remakes like RE2R and RE3R more but RE4R is definitely the better game compared to those two.
Would be interesting ot watch whole movie :p

Nice video lol, would definitely watch a whole movie of that too. Lol at De Lago looking like Barney the Dinosaur.

Directly sown below the platform where the ending boss starts in Leon campaign is a good place to funnel them, as they've either gotta climb the containers, go through then or come across the bridge to your left. Some will jump from above you but it's only like 2 at a time.

If you get really stuck quickly clear the bridge and run across it to give yourself some breathing space and stand on the first proper platform in the middle that you jump onto in boss fight is good for clearing out groups of them with explosives or character abilities.

I only went to the front at the start for the time extensions and whatever. Usually knifing the ganado round a square container at the starting area, working my way round grabbing the pick ups taking a few enemies to get combo going.

It took me 30 hours to complete my first playthrough :p. I must say the game is amazing, but it's much more difficult than previous remakes. I looted everything and used tactics to conserve ammo (using traps, killing with melee, stealth or sometimes running past the enemy) but I was still sometimes low on ammo. I wonder what would happen if I really ran out of ammo :p? I guess it would be the end and I would have to restart the game or load an old save. In other Resident Evil games, when I used these tactics, I always had plenty of ammo, but not in the RE4 remake. I fully upgraded my main weapons during my first playthrough, so my 2nd playthrough will be a lot easier for sure.

The game has a great dynamic difficulty adjuster going on behind the scenes making encounters harder/easier and managing item drops to maintain an appropriate level of pressure throughout most of the game.

And it's subtle enough that you just don't notice.

It makes sense. I had plenty of ammo until I got to the castle level (enemies were dropping a lot of ammo and crates were full of ammo too). In the castle, however, the enemies suddenly stopped dropping ammo as often (only a limited amount of gunpowder), so I quickly staring running out of ammo. Most of the time I had about 50x pistol ammo, 50x SMG ammo, 5-10x rifle ammo, 5x shotgun ammo, and that was just enough for one boss fight. After the boss fight, I was desperate for resources, and when I replenished my ammo, I had to fight another boss.

This game was a challenge for me, but maybe that's also the reason why I couldn't stop playing it.

Thanks for the tips, I'll give that a go.

It's really just base Leon that sucks. Everyone else are beastly. I'm sure it's just a skill issue tbh

I fucking love the RPD costume. Legit has to be one of the most iconic and aesthetic fits in gaming, up there with Solid Snakes sneaking suit.

Btw I don't know who saw, but Leon got voted the second top Capcom character of all time in Capcoms Super Elections (a worldwide survey). He has more total votes than Chris, Claire, Jill, Rebecca, Ada, and Ethan combined. The only character to beat him out was Dante from DMC (by a couple hundred votes), his literal copy lmao. Also unsurprisingly, Dante beat him out with male vote. Leon won the female vote. Regardless though, they were top two for both.

While Leon is my favorite of the Capcom cast, I think Chris or Jill could have rivaled him if they got more focus within these 7 years. Chris was a minor character in both RE7 and RE8. Jill was only in 1 game within the RE engine era and that game was a disappointment to a good amount of folks. While Leon was in 2 great RE games RE2 Remake and RE4 Remake which was also the most recent one. If they would have launched RE1 Re Remake and RE Code Veronica remake within these 7 years then Chris could very well have a shot against Leon.
