Thats why I was saying, you've gotta realize the point of public assembly is to keep moving. Only shoot enough to clear a path (unless in the retail you want to kill the Executioner for a big time treasure drop).
Mmm, using the entire environment is what makes it for me.

The Public Assembly area is such a well designed arena, I love moving from different points of the map to the other, setting up choke points, and having my partner help out with sniper from the upper sections of the level.

It's gaming bliss for me. :lol

See, this is kind of like what I was thinking too. The controls aren't broken, per se, and they did work for RE4. However, if there's one way that RE5 isn't RE4.5, it's that there's an even heavier focus on action. RE4 could get by with its controls (since they were really just a tweaked version of the classic controls), but now that the series has stepped further into territory that demands quick movement, people are feeling more sluggish than they did in RE4. It's not necessarily a measure of the controls being to slow; it's a measure of the game's pace becoming too fast for the controls.
I'm not sure if there's that much more of action focus though. Public assembly is VERY similar to the village early in RE4, and while there's more enemies you do have a partner so you don't have to deal with every enemy you see.

I personally think the RE5 demo isn't near as hectic as the late island parts of RE4, or any of the mercenaries levels. And the RE4 controls worked well for all that stuff.

How is the co-op going to work when selecting stages? Something like Left4Dead where you just select which part of the level you want to play?

on now (w/ new mic :)) if you want to go through it.

Where is this selecting levels thing coming from. :lol

Only the demo has level select, the actual game will be just like RE4.

RE4 was one of my favorite games ever, at the time. I will avoid RE5 like the plague. It simply should not be supported with these completely broken controls (for this day and age).

It's also very difficult to even see where you're aiming if the little red dot is not actually on an enemy.

If the next Doom game came out without the ability to aim up or down, I wouldn't just shrug it off or give it props for "keeping it old school," and neither would you.

doom didn't have freelook which resulted in aiming only left and right, there was no y-axis.

I wouldn't be surprised if after you beat the game you unlock some kind of level select option.

EDIT: To clarify, I don't know either way.

Wouldn't be a bad idea, game is cut up into chapters anyway.

Yeah. Co-op is just going to be drop in / drop out. You just have to have a game set to let people join im sure, then limit it to friends only or anyone.

The only "level select" will probably be in side modes...which better have co-op.

I dont think anyone will be able to co-op until a decent amount of regular progress, since you arent supposed to meet Sheva until the stuff really starts going down.

I dunno, a level select would make a lot of sense. Especially considering that saving is now automatic.

I guess thats possible, but it probably wouldnt be till after you beat the game. And even then, only select those chapters for that difficulty.

If Mercenaries isnt co-op then this game fails, seriously.

No typewriters anymore, seriously? Please explain how the save system works. (haven't kept up with this game at all, only know that I have a preorder on it :lol )

I'm talking about how will co-op be set up. Obviously people are going to be at different places in the game/story, but will end up needing to play together. It's probably like was said, someone starts a game at save point X, then player 2 joins it at that point.

Its just like the checkpoint system in RE4, just instead of manually saving your game at a typewriter, the game saves it at the checkpoint.

There's checkpoints now. I think you can save in between levels in a more permanent way though.

I'm going to miss the typewriters, but once again, in a co-op, online game, they wouldn't have been very intuitive.

Wtf, and if you want to manage your own game save then?

Your character's current inventionary and shit gets saved, but you can choose which level you want to play from I believe.

It's a little bit unclear at this point.

How is it that you know all about this game? Did you hack the demo or something?

Hmm, thanks guys for trying to clear this up. I'll be pissed if I can't choose when I want to save (similar to the old RE games). When a game is focused around ammo-conservation, having a save system that autosaves when you might have had a bad shooting streak will just make me furious.

Just followed the media on the game very closely. :)

Really? What will be the point of them. (love save room music)
I don't know if this counts as a spoiler or not, but apparently at the beginning of the game
after your first encounter with a Majini, you go into a warehouse of sorts that has some ammo and stuff, and is totally safe.
I'm making an assumption, but it would only make sense to have similar areas throughout, if only to help pace the game better (yucky grammar there), and relieve combat fatigue.

I dont care if there is no point, i want to listen to pretty music and feel safe. Once the RE games get rid of those rooms, it wont feel like an RE game anymore :(

True.

Thanks for the info Rez.

Honestly I think people need to suck it up regarding the controls. The complaints are valid, but going by some comments, the game is only one step above completely unplayable mess. Even factoring in the limitations, it's really not that hard to get.

Its obvious Capcom has dropped a huge chunk of change into this game with all the viral videos and the art quality of the game being so high. I hope the control complaints dont keep it from selling a ton. It bombing will only have a negative effect on the series, and its one of the best series still around.

I will miss you.

Don't worry, an axecutioner will crash into your safe room if Capcom is sadistic enough.

I hope they are.

When Capcom are dropping as many $$$ into the advertising as they are at the moment, I think sales of this game are going to be pretty high (RE4 still has a surprising amount of good will among the semi-casual 360 crowd I know), but RE6's sales might suffer.

As long as Capcom keep giving the RE team the budget and time to go crazy and build games as massive as RE4/5, I couldn't care less about what it sells. ;)

Its true if it fails these guys will make the easy assumption that everyone wants it to be more western, so the next RE game will star a bald space marine and it will be alien zombies we are going after.

I think Nemesis can crash into the photo room in RE3.... my memory is a little sketchy. :lol

I dont know what but I keep thinking about RE3 when I think dangerous save rooms. I dont know if something does happen but something happens near one. I dont know I haven't played the game in years, will play it soon in my series playthrough.

I didn't get to play the demo as much as I wanted to, but I do like what I played and definitely plan on purchasing it on day one. Admittedly, the controls imo are not as easy to grasp as Dead Space, Gears of War or even Silent Hill: Homecoming, but that didn't prevent me from enjoying it. Also, I was never too fond of real time inventory in any game, but I will see if I can get used to it with some more play.

Please don't mention anything else about that demo code leak. I'm trying to stay as unspoiled as possible and I fear mention of that in any RE5 thread.

a monetary system was mentioned in the demo. buying weapons is nothing but getting access to a menu before the level starts, like in Devil May Cry.

I'm pretty sure no one has actually deconfirmed the Merchant. Even when the pre-chapter menu talk comes up, they never directly deny it.

But then I think Zenith has seen the demo spoilers, so I guess he didn't make it in. :(

Safe room music has always been great. Would be nice to have em, even for the sake of discussing your next move in online co-op...or just taking a breather single player to organize your and Sheva's inventory.

Isnt he the voice of the "RESIDENT EEEVIL!" title screen though? Sounded like that for RE4...same for 5's demo.

I just though of an awesome topic, best "RESIDENT EVIL!" voices throughout the series.
