From 3rd January 2025, Riot Games will ban content creators for bad "off-platform conduct".

In a message posted to Valorant's social media channels, the developer said that "if a creator uses hateful slurs about an opposing player or teammate on their stream" - even if it's not via its in-game comms - it will "still issue a penalty as if that behaviour occurred in-game".

At first I thought it was anything but hearing that it’s ’on Stream while playing their games’, it makes a lot more sense.

Don’t be an asshole and you won’t win asshole prizes.

Any old fucks remember when Riot didn't allow their pro players to stream anything besides LoL? They've always been control freaks.

I'm glad they added that awful anti-cheat software to LoL so I'd never be tempted to return.

Spoiling on YouTube is stupid and doesn't make any sense, streamers should get creative with their content they present cause clearly there is huge shift in qol from some streamers compared to other streamers, and I saw some of them crying for their poor numbers of views, they aren't either great listeners and others call them lazy. I just stopped watching these streamers who are just great at spoiling and regurgitating video games articles.

Not gonna listen to some delusional woman ramble about this shit for eight minutes, so apologies if I'm misunderstanding this.

It's bad enough that these games use speech recognition to police people in-game, what gives them the right to penalize people for what they say or do outside of their games?

How far will this censorship garbage go, be it video game related or not? It does nobody a favor. Grow a fucking layer of skin.

I remember the communication from Riot around this was so fucking pretentious and insuferrable.

I wouldn't call this censorship. Players are still allowed to say whatever they want. Riot is choosing to no longer associate with them if they say something that may 'damage the brand'.

Everyone wants Fortnite money. You need to appear "brand safe" to other brands to bring in Fortnite money.

I’ve just gone to using Discord for any level of chat and keeping it to friends only. I got a “notice” in Warzone the other day because I called a blatant cheater a “pussy ass bitch”. But I would bet my next paycheck that dipshit is still out there rage hacking with no recourse.

It’s really a matter of voting with your wallet for these fragile game devs and player bases.

That’s retarded. Ban people for being shitlords in game sure, but you shouldn’t be able to game ban them for being shitlords out of game.

What do you mean by shouldn’t be able to? Literally their game, their rules. They just sent out a notice to the shitlords, that they shouldn’t be that in public.

RIOT games takes the next step in capitalism by educating you shitlords instead of your parents. Probably with greater success, too.

They wont unless its someone they want banned and couldnt before. This is just their way of making it "legal" to do so against streamers who are more open about things. If they'd ban all streamers, their player base and revenue would drop significantly.

What's next: McDonald's won't serve customers who didn't empty their trays but left them on the table in competing Burger King and KFC restaurants?

Only true savages leave their shit on the table

I'd ban you from life

That seems kind of aggressive. Do their games tend to display opponent gamertags in a way that would display them on a live stream? If no, I don't see how it matters if the opposing player can't hear it and no one knows who that player is on the stream side anyway. 🤷‍♂️

There’s one in particular that totally deserves this and was likely the reason they implemented this : Tarzaned or however ya spell it.

This guy is the biggest fucking loser on Earth.

He will whine and cry for hours on end saying on repeat his teammates are pedophiles, that they should kill themselves IRL, and racist shit.

Twitch won’t ban this guy, and he openly buys accounts and promotes websites to buy league accounts from on his twitch even in his profile.

This dude is mentally ill and scum of the Earth.

His ban will be a speedrun record lmao.

Remember that these shitheads now pretending to be the Videogame Police™ are property of Tencent, aka the CCP.

Can we really trust them to be juries on what's considered "good conduct"?
Bruh. It’s pretty rich to question their motives and credibility after voting Trump and his circus troupe into the office again.

Let’s just say we all have some deficits in making good judgment calls.

Not surprised given that they have kernel level "anti-cheat" running all the time. Really interested in seeing how this impacts 2XKO. I'm sure more than a few people from the FGC will get penalized for this.

RIot has to be one of the most draconian devs/companies out there.

Have you folks even played Valorant? Do you have kids? Because I have heard some horrific shit come from Valorant players, both in game and out, thanks to my daughter playing and watching the game. Teenagers appear to comprise the vast majority of the player base. I support anything that makes the game more tolerable for teenagers, and helps them develop sportsmanship.

She's right.

When COD4 was the rage and everyone was yapping and trolling in lobbies I got mental and have been on stress leave for 15 years.

Please protect every online gamer Riot Studios. People need to be babysat like children.

After reading it it wasn't really sure what was being discussed here but after going over it I actually disagree and believe it makes sense for the company.

When you join any online gaming community like that it is at their discretion how they could ban people, So if someone's behavior outside of the game like if they go on social media to create hateful content about other users ends up hurting the company it makes complete sense that the company protects themselves by actually banning and removing the person

So I think we're in a place right now in gaming where this actually makes complete sense. If somebody is going to attack a user by going outside of the platform to try to harass them I believe the company should have a 0 tolerance idea around this because of how online is seen and I don't really know if going on another social media platform to circumvent something like this to harass people is something that any company should be trying to support or okay.

So after thinking it over... I think maybe this makes complete sense.

So I'm not really worried about this cause I don't harass and attack people for a living sooooooo yea.

Sad day for trolls I guess lol

I told some stupid noisy teammate in cod to 'shut up, silly cunt' and I received a comms ban... How is it I can play a game that allows me to shoot people in their head or stick a drill into their jaw, but I can't say mean words? I'd understand this if I was playing a game like Minecraft, but this is a 18+ game that has swear words in and the objective is to go around and shoot people in the face.
