Microsoft has over purchasd on content with the ABK buy. Hence studio closures. Doubt more buying developers/publishers are on the table near-term. Microsoft is corporately focused on winning in AI. Acquisitions will be in that space, not gaming.

Well highest bid isn't the only factor.

It may get massive regulator pushback there is a point where even spinless regulators like the EC say no, with MS shutting down studios and laying people off it would get unions and employees pushing back heavily.

If they go after another big publishers it could be a huge headache for the publisher to sell to MS.

Sure, but a publicly owned and traded company's first step in starting the process isn't going to have anything to do with spinless regulators, it'll be the shareholders, making the call, surely?

EDIT: It's all academic, IMO for various reasons - it's my understanding that Japan blocks the acquisition of domestic companies by international ones for a start so that pours quite a lot of cold water on this. But it's sometimes fun to debate anyway.

That doesn't matter as much, as it happens all the time with acquisition news (sometimes legit, sometimes fake). It's been public knowledge for months now that Skydance and Sony were bidding for Paramount, but an acquisition still has not materialized. That's caused the stock to weave up and down depending on the day.

I don't think that's happening now sony and apollo lowered there offer. I think it's mainly because sony wasn't allowed to have or own American tv studios only movies
