Love this game so much but I can't beat the 5th level. I'm not giving up but it is very hard.

Sound design in this game is incredible.

Did Sony ever patch some of the issues game used to have on release? I remember there were some technical related problems folks had.

And the game is fairly niche, a tough rogue lite shooter in 3rd person Plus it was a late looker for full price.

So if the 300K+ owners number is correct, it’s kind of expected I would say.

Copies sold is only bought directly from Steam. Owners is that plus keys from resellers and third parties, or giveaway keys with a GPU bundle for example.
I bought my copy from Green Man Gaming. So I guess according to that I'm owner but not part of the sold copies.

Why are we making threads about shit that GAF rejects say?
Indeed - are why specifically are we making threads about shit that the most fanatical of Sony fanboy Gaf rejects (and boy do you have to be a Sony zealot to enter that category) are saying about the platforms they feel threatened by?

Even if the number is a bit on the low side, there is a good chance this port made money for Sony.
The game was already done for the PS5, and because it uses UE4, the process to porting it to PC should have been relatively cheap and easy.

Its pretty expensive for a rogue based shooter imo. I like the game, haven't gotten past the second zone yet (yes I suck) but I know Im waiting for a deep deep sale to buy it on pc.

Its fun on ps5 tho

Just to echo what other people have said; its a really good game that deserved a lot more sales than its probably enjoyed.

Sometimes you just have to accept that the cream does not automatically rise to the top. Popularity and quality are not one and the same.

I guess people tend to lean towards that because its comforting to think that there's something akin to the "wisdom of crowds" that will see justice result naturally, despite the observable reality pointing to a much more cynical interpretation.

I haven't played Returnal since I got the platinum but I've kept it installed on my PS5 unlike most games I finished.
I think it's the best PS 1st party game this gen, but I'm a little scared to boot the game in case I've lost all my skillz.

Space themed games have a smaller audience. Also, rogue-lite is a deal breaker for many. Multiplayer or open world single player is the norm nowadays. Doesn't matter how good it is in gameplay department.

I enjoy Housemarque's games in general and it's kind of sad that Returnal had a lot of stuff going against it - a full priced game with roguelike mechanics, not a lot of original content (you need to like the idea of replaying it over and over again) and a reasonably high difficulty level. Plus for quite some time it was a PS5 exclusive so it couldn't sell all that well because of the supply issues.

It wouldn't surprise me.

Just look at the total number of reviews at the moment, and the CCUs when it released. That game did not do well, even by PS/PC port standards.

Releasing a late ported bullet hell game for $60 on PC wasn't the smartest move, was it..

I'd say its a lot more about building an audience and understanding how big this audience actually is. There are plenty of examples of both MP and open world games flopping, as well as success cases that dont fit either.

Nah, it's not about the main character, this is an excellent game, but too hardcore for a mainstream audience.

I'd prefer a Metroivania structure like Control. That would have been awesome but still niche.
