I'm always down for another Valve hardware release. I wonder if they can keep the trackpads while also adding hall effect sticks and a good fighting game compatible dpad. If it has all that, It's an instant buy for me.

Edit; Also of course it must be symmetrical. The best controller layout!

I know I'm in the minority but I actually liked my Steam controller what for it was. Did it replace my DualShock 4 at the time? No, but it was great for certain things. I remember playing through all of Portal 1/2 with it and loved it.

I'm curious to see what it is as I like that Valve does overall.

+1 for symmetrical sticks as well.

Its nice to see another viable option show up, since I don't plan to stick with Sony controllers on PC.

It was foolish of me to believe Sony when they claimed they were going hard into the PC platform a few years back.

I'm very confused with people here hating asymmetrical stick.
What's so bad about if for you? I think asymmetrical sticks are a lot more ergonomic because it's actually symmetrical for your thumbs when you play, with the left thumb on the left stick, and the right thumb on the face buttons.
It's a much more natural resting positions for your hands compared to the symmetrical sticks where it feels weird having to move your thumb lower, and your hand positions end up being non symmetrical in the end.

It seems like people only talk about the design of the controller itself, but not the ergonomics when you hold it.

Hopefully it's like Hori's licensed Steam controllers for Japan only. Absolutely amazing with asymmetrical sticks.
FTFY. Man you must be really missing sleep, I almost believed you actually meant it.
(For real, I actually like the design, I would only hope for sticks to have HAL effect)

I’ve heard mixed things about it. It’s coming to the states and I was interested in picking it up.

I actually really like Hori. It’s the only third party accessory maker I actually really like besides 8bitdo.

Are they good quality? I'm done with drifting but I can't trust third party brands after a controller my wife gave me broke a month later :(

Wow, you think Valve would have some mercy on those who license their tech. Hori is finally releasing the controllers in the US and now the official controller is immanent.
Can't make Hori happy.
I guess Valve must have seen how many were importing the Japanese controller and said okay, now it the time to get this out there.
For the record, I have the Hori controller, and it needs a lot of work, so I am happy Valve is finally moving on this.

My experience with Hori has always bern good. I’ve had some of their stuff since the PS2 days. I’ve had their fightpads and sticks but I don’t have any experience with the steam pad.

There is nothing bad about it. I can use a controller either way.
Hearing people complain about stick placement is like going out to lunch with my picky friend. Go out to eat a hamburger and he always orders, Plain, Dry, Ketchup only.
Just Meat, Bread and Ketchup. Thats all he will eat. Nothing else will do.

I'm not going to judge until we see them. I love Valve, and Steam, so I'm certainly curious. Hoping for something really neat rather than something opposite, lol. Honestly, I'm thinking it'll be more of the former than latter. I feel like they've been making much better decisions in the hardware department since the original Steam controller and the Steam Link.

I wonder if asymmetrical sticks would even be possible with a controller with 2 trackpads, along with a d-pad?

I don't think a good quality product would be greenlit, designed and sent to mass production so quickly based on pure reaction, I think it's mostly bad luck for Hori OR that we're gonna see more licensed products coming and we only heard from the Valve and Hori ones so far.

I hope so, I really like that one for PC, I currently have an Xbox controller but I would like to have gyro and don't really care about triggers (AFAIK you have to use d-input for that in some controllers therefore analog triggers become digital)

Do you have a DualShock 4 or Dualsense? They both have gyro and work great on pc.

The Hori has some neat Steam only features like gyro touch on the right stick, extra buttons for the Steam interface, but it's really just a re-tooled Switch controller otherwise. You can see them on Hori's website and get confused until you notice no Steam logo button. It doesn't have modern niceties, such as Hall Effect/TSMR Sticks, no mechanical buttons, (the buttons are rather stabby on your thumb when you press them (my biggest gripe) no rumble, and it is extremely light making it feel cheap. Of course, no trackpads. I guess one has to be forgiving as its only going to be sixty bucks when it comes out in the US I believe.

It makes me wonder if Valve is going to go all out for their controller and make it premium or keep it in the safe/cheap zone. Going with cheap like they did with the first controller, will have me praying for a third party company to take up the mantle and do a Steam Controller with the works.

Remember the first design of Steam Controller actually had a screen built into it, it was nicknamed "The Owl". Then what we got was severely dumbed down from what was initially brought out for sale because The Owl was going to be outrageously expensive. I believe the estimate was $200 (a lot for 2015) what we got was $50.

It's tough to beat the thoughtful perfection of the 360+ controllers. I know that new Sony pad has some gizmos that I want to check out. I'm due for a new one. I'm still on a Bone controller. It just won't die in any way. I'm glad Valve is throwing their hat in the ring for my next controller purchase. I'll give them my full consideration.

I hope this is true. An SC2 that takes on board some of the improvements from Steam Deck would/will be amazing. I would use it a lot more than my original one.

Asymmetrical sticks are a game changer for those with larger hands

I'm currently using a DualSense, but I'm considering switching to an Xbox controller
Razer Wolverine Chroma is both asymmetrical and a little bit larger than the xbox controller. It is fantastic but avoid the 60$ model.

I don't know what I want from it really. I'm technically the target of the Steam Controller - I'm playing mostly at my desk but my PC is connected to a TV in a separate room. Wireless keyboard with a touchpad is a must have, I can't imagine using the Steam Controller trackpad for stuff. I can't imagine using it for mouse and keyboard games either - that's why I'm playing exclusively controller games when I'm in front of my TV.

I guess I want them to go classic - with a proper d-pad and two analog sticks.

Not an image at all of the product, but what someone photoshopped going by the rumours, total fan mockup.

Seems like Steam deck controllers for VR. I guess that Steam is gonna make a huge push to have an ecosystem that has the same interface, from deck, to VR, to just a controller to buy.

Interesting thing here is that he says that the selling feature is to play the entire steam library in VR, likely like a virtual screen in AR I imagine. Would be cool as fuck if its stereoscopic a bit like some monitors already support.

I bought a sex doll, but I keep it inflated 100% of the time and use it like a regular wife

Sounds awesome, but imo one of the biggest challenges here is making the device comfortable enough for it.

Playing a game on my TV is comfy. Playing the same game on a VR headset might not, specially during long sessions.

But man, if they achieve that it could be a game changer. Put on the VR glasses and suddenly you have a gigantic cinema screen in front of you with Lexi Luna asking you what game you wanna play.

Steam Controller 2?! I'll take five!

Hoping they find a way to make it as close to the steam deck layout as possible. The decks setup is incredibly comfortable and versatile. Just not sure how well it'd work on a narrower housing.

I'd also be cool with splitting it into two separate controllers. Like Wii nunchuks on steroids.

I have one barely used and other one never unboxed. Was meant to sell it but it never got to the right price
