MacFarlane is particularly eager to reboot one of his favorite franchises, Star Trek, for TV. "I don't know who would give me the keys to that car," he jokes, acknowledging that the films have been so profitable for Paramount that he isn't so sure they have a lot of interest in getting back into the TV business. "But I'd love to see that franchise revived for television in the way that it was in the 1990s: very thoughtful, smartly written stories that transcend the science fiction audience."
Well this is just the worst.

Hey Spock, remember the time when Captain Kirk ate too many jelly beans and went to Althos IV before using the bathroom?

Oh look, the guy who patented the creation of 3 identical dysfunctional family centered animated sitcoms wants to try something new. No now, I think this world has had enough Seth McFarlane for its own good

nuke him from orbit, it's the only way to be sure

Oh, you're one of those.
I'll never understand it myself. I was a skeptic as any fellow diehard Trek fan, I was blown away by that movie. Maybe my favorite of that entire year. And I can understand not enjoying it as a stand alone work of entertainment but to still be bitching that it somehow affected normal continuity when they were ingenious in making sure they didn't do exactly that is baffling.

Shit, let him do it. He's obviously a big Sci-Fi fan and a huge Trek nerd.

I see nothing wrong with this. I'd love to see him slap his name on something that isn't a cartoon or a piece of comedy.

Yeah, if I was paid the amount of money he is, I would make the same shit too.

At this point in time, he has so much money, that he actually has a legitimate shot at doing something like this. Shit, he getting a broadcast network to redo Cosmos, how many other people in the industry could have even done that, let alone attempted to do it?

Wait, what?

Opinion of Seth MacFarlane... rising.

I can understand the skepticism given the shows McFarlane is known for, but I think the guy is probably a whole lot more talented and intelligent than people give him credit for too. You can be incredibly talented and intelligent and still like money, which is basically what I think it comes down to for his shows.

I really like Seth MacFarlane as a person and a successful geek, but don't really like his shows anymore.

I would be on board if he tried this. Like others have said, he is the guy bringing Cosmos back.

Maybe but it's only fair we judge him by the shows he's done so far. So far he hasn't really given me any reason to assume this wouldn't suck horribly.
He seems to be knocking Cosmos out of the park.

If I didn't know his writing credentials, I would be all for this based on this quote alone, because it makes him sound like an intelligent admirer of the show.

Unfortunately, I know his writing credentials.

As long as we don't get three Star Trek series running back to back on the same night of the week doing the same basic thing but with a different ship and crew then it could be cool.

Why? Maybe he'd be good at it. In fact, maybe he'd actively help it by changing it from the geek fest it morphed into.
Well, it has to remain geeky, but he could help remove it from the quagmire it's found itself in.

American Dad is a great show.

I think he deserves a chance for us to see what he would do in a serious show rather than an animated sitcom.

He's a trek nerd so that gives me high hopes.
