Shinji Mikami: 'There's no Space for Dino Crisis when Monster Hunter Exists'

The comments do not surprise me. The Dino Crisis series spent more time as an action-adventure series than as survival horror. You can argue that Mikami wasn't involved with the action sequels, but he was the head of Capcom Production Studio 4 who made them, and their output in the early 2000s was very obviously geared towards action. Many of these Japanese developers are very matter of fact and so the broader concept of making an "action game with dinosaurs" would easily be fulfilled by Monster Hunter.

Look, lets all be honest for a second here, the only reason Dino Crisis was number one in that survey is because a certain individual over on Ree wont shut the fuck up about it. Their campaign of keeping the series in the "hearts and minds" of gamers helped it reach that position.

This is true. People forget we are in the age of review bombing ie. it is very easy to direct a crowd to manipulate online opinion to get what you want. All that spastic has to really do is direct his/her/xir's Twitter and Ree following towards the Capcom poll and overwhelm it. It doesn't say anything about what the public really want and is probably why Mikami was surprised.

The DC series sold about 4 million units tops and has been extinct since the sixth generation. I don't buy for a second that the millennials and Gen X'rs who vaguely remember PS1 dinosaur game outweighs the collective fans of Resident Evil, DMC or Monster Hunter.
