How is a phone insecure? You don't have to tweak anything on an android phone it's an option. Sorry you guys are getting drip fed customization. How are widgets working for you now that iphone finally has them?Android has been shit for a while now.

My lad’s iPhone SE from 2016 is still lighting fast and even after 7 years there’s no crashing or slow down. Only upgraded him due to design and battery.
All of my flagship Android phones, including a Nexus, ended up being pretty crap.
I’ll never go back to Android even after thinking iPhone users were dumb sheep for years. The phones just work, pretty flawlessly, for years.

This might sound stupid but to be honest, the main reason I can't get into the iPhone is because of the notch. I'm sorry but I still think that phones with a notch are so damn ugly.
When my old Android phone died, I specifically started looking for a new phone without a notch. I found Motorola One Hyper and I love it. Plus it got a headphone jack.
Maybe one day I'll give the iPhone a shot if they ever get rid of the notch.

So looks like my hand was forced, my s20 FE screen died this morning and I needed an Android to use the Google Backup and Restore feature on my new phone.
Pixel 7 phones were out of stock at the department store, so I ended up with a Pixel 7a. Feels great to hold, and sturdy, but I'm still slapping a case on it ASAP!
My next phone will be an iPhone, if it gets USB Type C. Thank you all, I really appreciate your perspective!

Absolutely not. Apple is extremely anti consumer and they purposely fuck up your phone with their latest firmware so it slows down and forces you to buy a new one.
You can't use any of your peripherals unless it's Apple and you'll be locked into their exo system which is horrible and extremely expensive. Stay away as far as possible.

I switched over 1.5 years ago after years of being in android and I won’t go back. The way everything works together is just fantastic. It also seems that apple respects your privacy a hell of a lot more than google does. I’d recommend the change myself

I’m actually going the opposite direction when my contact is up in August. The flexibility of android, multi-accounts etc is more what I need now.
It really depends what speaks to you. Side loading apps is huge for me. I do like having the option to have apps that aren't approved on my phone. Things like pornhub and xvideos as just two examples of apps you won't find on the apple store that I like having a dedicated app for. Another great app is tachiyomi for manga reading. Things like YouTube revanced that you wouldn't find in iOS app store and yes, the emulators that are a hassle to have on an iOS device.
Other features are being able to turn any device into a dev unit for free and not have to pay a yearly fee to develop for the store.
A lot of it is based around just being able to do what you want with the device you bought. If you're cool with a walled garden that only has pre-approved functionality, iOS isn't terrible, but I don't want that.
Some things also took longer to get to iOS than Android. Things like app drawers, folders, widgets, notifications, etc were all slower rollouts on iOS than Android. Nowadays it's pretty close to parity with Android, though, on built in functions. But I still want my emulators.
Edit: just thought of one thing. The file management system on Android is leagues better than iOS's implementation.

I don't know if iPhones are better in terms of intuitiveness these days, at least not in all areas. I've had my XR for years now, and some of the UI stuff is a mess.
Take the App Library folders for example. The phone automatically chooses both what folder each app is in and what order the folders are in. Absolutely no option to customise and lock anything in place so that you can build muscle memory or correct mistakes, just the useless mess of wherever the fuck your apps might be. I have some games and game related apps, and instead of being together they're split between Other, Utilites, and Information & Reading. Half the time I can't even find Apple's own built in apps. It might as well just be randomised every time, I'd probab;y have more luck with it. God forbid you try and set up anything in Shortcuts. That's a huge unintuitive mess. Tasker on Android is 1000x better.
And just like every other sane person in the world, I'll never stop going on about how shit the notifications are.
In a general usability note, pop over to any iPhone community and look at any given discussion about the cameras. So much automatic processing that you can't disable without buying a third party app or shooting in RAW format which is absurdly large. AFAIK there is still no actual fix for people having their photos tarnished by additional shit they don't get to disable.
iPhones have their perks, and I don't regret getting mine because it's served me well, but I'm under no illusions about their shortcomings.

Why are samsung phones so hated? I genuinely dont understand. I have bought mid range galaxy a52s for 350 euros, it has 120hz screen, amazing display everything is fast, ui is great and the battery life is amazing. I haven't noticed any slowdown in a year i have it. It feels like a high end phone.
My next one will be s23, i like the smaller size of that phone, when the price drops.

They're guilty of putting put bloatware on there, but I agree with you. I had a older gen Galaxy and I really liked it.
On a side note I'll never buy a flagship phone ever again. $300-400 is the sweet spot and I tend to get 4+ years out of those phones. $1000+ for a phone is insanity to me.

I use to have an Iphone and still have my I Pod Touch that Apple decided to not support anymore, so i couldn't use certain apps or get updates, i switched to Android, i prefer a more open eco system now and their a lot more expensive now than when i had one, i don't buy flagship phones anymore.

Reputation. TouchWiz used to be an utter pig at times.
But a mixture of more powerful SoCs, more and faster RAM and storage, and Samsung (well Korean in general because LG were bad too) devs getting better have made that a thing of the past.
It's been almost a decade since most Samsung devices were bloated and slow. Or rather, became so after about a year.
Sony have always been a good bet apart from the time they briefly followed the headphone jackless horde.

I have been a long time android user but had to have an iPhone as my work number relatively recently . There is nothing to choose between them honestly. It took me a couple of weeks to figure out how to achieve same thing on iPhone. If you are buying for yourself iPhones are more expensive for the same functionality

I feel like Sony phones never get a look in, but I loved my Z3 Compact. That served me well for a decent amount of time.
I miss Android, I think I'm going to look at Android again next time round. My iPhone XR was £800 up front at the time (up against shitty bloatware-filled Androids filled in a stagnant market that was worth it), but iPhones now are about £1200+ and I want superpowers for that sort of money.
What makes me laugh is that I popped over to the XDA Forum and I found an Android app that recreates Dynamic Island. There aren't too many software solutions that won't be stolen and possibly be implemented just as well by amateurs for free.

There's nothing wrong with iPhones lol. I've mostly been an Android user and wouldn't mind going back but I hope my next phone is an iPhone. So far I've used iPhone for about 5 and a half years since 2009 with the rest of the time on Android.
I do know Android has improved software updates which is one reason I went iPhone again as I wanted something that was going to be supported for a long time. I've had my current iPhone for 2 and a half years and I expect another 2-3 years of support as far as major updates are concerned. Another reason I went iPhone is because Apple has retail stores that you can visit if something goes wrong and in my experience they will usually just replace your device there and then if it falls under their warranty/support. I had some issues with my previous Android phone and getting it fixed was so much trouble as I needed to go 2-3 weeks without a phone while waiting on a replacement.
Other than that I don't think it really matters what you go with. They are mostly the same and it comes down to personal preference.

I had an S10+ 512GB that was like new until a few months ago. I was pissed that the phone wasn't getting any more updates from Samsung even though it wasn't that old and a flagship phone. Tried to sell it for €300 for a weeh and had to lower it to €250 because no one wanted to pay €300 for it, because of how badly Android phones depreciate.
My colleague was getting an iPhone 14 Pro Max with a contract renewal and sold me his 12 Pro Max for only €450, which was a really awesome deal, because used 12 Pro Max phones were still selling for €650-€750.
I'm super happy with the iPhone. I used to be a tinkerer who would root all his phones and try out new custom roms all the time, but I don't care about any of that stuff anymore. The user experience of the iPhone feels much much better and more thought out than Android. I don't feel like I'm missing any feature or functionality compared to Android, at all.
Another thing I like is that when I'm getting a game from the App Store, I can be pretty sure it will run fine on my phone. No need to investigate and research if and how good a certain game will run on my phone. If I see it in the store and it's listed as compatible with my phone, it's almost certan to run perfect on it.
