yeah ... without them it would cost 4 times the minimum wage, not 1,06 time
PT defense force? No wonder Brazil is so messed up.

Or US$ 298,89 by today's dollar. I laugh my fucking ass off when I read US people telling others that they're "poor" because they "only" make US$15k/year. Dude, I'd KILL to make that amount of money in a year. No joke.
JVLat's prices simply make no sense. I love that they absolutely refuse to explain how they reached this price, it's a good way to tell what they really think about BRs. This is a spit in our faces.
I'm also waiting for resellers to get their shit together, not paying $500+ for a Switch. Maybe I'm just a droplet in the ocean and it's a lost cause, but if people keep accepting that shit then there's no way out. All I know is that I'm doing my part.
EDIT: And stop with that pro-PT/anti-PT shit. Every fucking political party in this country is corrupt to the very core, if we're gonna attack only one of them we might as well put on our dunce hats and our clown noses, because it's everything we ever did in this regard here.
In Colombia, Pre-orders went live last week for the SNES Classis for COL$ 429.000 that is USD 147 give or take. They sold out wihtin 15 minutes.
Just for reference this are the MSRP of other consoles in the country:
NES Classis COL$329.000 (USD 114) They can no longer be found, but you were able to get NES Classic at this prices for several months after it's release
Nintendo Switch COL$ 1.699.000 (USD 585) This Console is not moving, most people getting a Switch are buying it at the US and import them.
PS4 Slim COL$ 1.049.000 (USD 362)
Xbox ONE COL$ 799.000 (USD 275)
Xbox ONE S COL$ 1.049.000 (USD 362)
Xbox ONE X COL$ 2.299.000 (USD 793)
All these prices include a 19% Sales TAX
Dude, don't get me wrong, but 15 USD/year is not a great salary even converting to Brazilian Reais.
But also you need to account the cost of living on top of it.
In Chile the Switch costs 350.000 Pesos.... that´s 540 USD aprox.
Some stores sell it a t 300.000 Pesos = 460 USD aprox
The NES Classic was at 99.000 = 152 USD aprox
Brazil's government high taxes are the major problem of such high prices.
Considering that taxes are included this is actually not that bad except for the Switch, which is a weird outlier. Brazil and Argentina on the other hand...
PT defense force? No wonder Brazil is so messed up.
Maybe they should've partnered with TecToy to get around import fees like Sega did
You can complain about a LOT of things they did in their time in power, but raising the money of the most poor is not one of those things. And minimum wage is among those things.

That insane grow ? Exactly when they entered power
PMDB is barely 6 months in power and they already confirmed a DECREASE in minimum wage
Oh goodness gracious i thought i was safe from pro-PT/anti-PT discussions on gaf
Foolish me

Seeing people thank a political party for giving them some crumbs is discouraging. This is some of the fucked up shit I normally see in BR political discussions, and a big reason why I normally never take part in them.
HmmOh please, no. Stop. Pure populism. Everyone is paying the bill now.
pop·u·lism
ˈpäpyəˌlizəm/
noun
support for the concerns of ordinary people.
"it is clear that your populism identifies with the folks on the bottom of the ladder"
Doesn't Brazil have a bunch of import taxes?
One pica console and one retro console.
Both at 1000 BRL.
Do you think both cost the same in USD?

My favorite thing about this price is that an actual snes + the best flashcard costs less than that here
I rather have crumbs than no crumbs.
When someone gives me more than crumbs I will raise the bar
Edit:
Hmm
Yes please more populism !
The mini SNES here is an luxury article, not a retro console as nintendo intended
I just want to say
Nintendo totaly wanted the MINI series to be luxury items, or else they would have made MUCH more.

If you want to use production and demand as your criteria then everything nintendo did recently was intended to be a luxury item then, including the switch
Nintendo hates us so much they've hired an official distributor to sell the mini SNES at R$1000,00 so that's probably gonna raise the gray market prices here and we can do nothing about that

Yes and no. They use this as the main excuse to maximize profit.
One pays 60% in general taxes to get into the country, so it would be roughly $130 plus some profit (which should be imbued in the $80 already but ok), this should lead to a maximum $200.
But ...
Well you've got a point... Considering Microsoft keeps the Xbox brand even though they do not have profit from it and Sony already sells eletronics here too it's kinda difficult for nintendo to sell anything here, I think so much about the gaming market that I forget Sony and Microsoft do other stuffs too xDNintendo is a business, they don't "hate" anyone.
It's simply not advantageous to operate in a country which tries to force you into opening a goddamn assembly line and pay a shitload of taxes so you can simply sell your product. don't have any assembly lines outside Foxconn (that I'm aware of).
Sony and Microsoft were already pretty well stablished here as sellers of electronic goods way before any PlayStation or Xbox existed and had their manufacturing plants since, I don't know, the 80s? Plus, they have a vast catalog of products. Nintendo only sells videogames, so they got fucked over in many ways.
It's a hostile environment for a videogame-focused business like them. That's why we live off of 400 BRL Mega Drives and Master Systems, things that have absolutely no reason to cost more than 100 BRL since they're thirty year old consoles, for Christ's sake. Yet we applaud them, and here we are.
If that's the prize in Brazil I can already imagine here in Mexico. Probably around $150 dollars. Thanks Reggie and NoA for always giving the middle finger to us, Latin America fans.
I just wish Nintendo would do a better effort to bring their games through companies that charge fairer prices. We used to have some 3DS games selling here... I wonder what happened to the reseller that did business with them before...i'd bet grey market broke them, though
It is a really sad situation... I feel they do have a market here but I'm not sure it would sustain itself so there is no hope at all =/ Still, that mini SNES price left a bad bad taste in my mouth, i'd rather not having it selling here because you either support that abusive pricing in order to tell Nintendo they've got a large demand here or you refuse to buy it at that price and risk the product not meeting their sales prediction, hence confirming that Brazil is a bad deal for them. I can't help but feel salty about all that
Hey, it's a Brazil-related thread outside the one in the community section where it's filled with political nonsense!
Oh wait, they managed to bring that political nonsense here as well, nevermind.

I don't know the details... Looking it up now it seems Nintendo didn't want to do business with Gaming do Brasil because their sales were not getting any profit, so they left the Brazilian market. I'm guessing the mini SNES is their way of getting a second shot at selling Nintendo consoles/games here. Are you talking about Gaming do Brasil? It's a subsidiary of JVLat, no?
I don't think the grey market alone fucked them over, though. Marketing was scarce to nonexistent during Gaming do Brasil's tenure, and the prices were insane, like the ~700 USD Wii U in 2013.
They have a market here, just see how the Mario-themed Havaianas sandals sold lightning fast. It was hard to find them, at least for me.
Unfortunately, in Brazil all conditions are perfectly put in place so their life here will always be hard.
Of course. 1000 BRL is 1000 BRL arromado.
