2D sprites weren't as popular as fancy 3D at the time.

A lot of classic characters were removed.

No home conversions for most consoles.

EX wasn't even fancy 3D, it was mostly ugly 3D.

Marvel vs Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes was just that gorgeous. Capcom at top form for a swan song of bright, crisp sprite work, and character-themed stages. They had nowhere to go except down.
