So why is Barrack Obama failing?

I only marginally pay attention to politics, but I have noticed through the cites that I pay attention to, such as Digg, Slashdot, etc., that the word Obama never comes up, and everybody seems to be set on Hillary vs. Rudy.

So what stupid things has he done to screw himself over?

His name sounds like a certain terrorist's...or at least it's close enough for some states. :(

Why vote for him? What does he stand for, what has he done to earn a vote, etc? All he has now is that he's a democrat, he's charismatic, and he's black.

He actually nailed this on the Daily Show: everyone in power now has a wealth of experience, and look where that's gotten us.

He's not a political animal.

While he may have a strong message that many people would agree with, he isn't good at actually getting that message out there.

1) The perception that he is wet behind the ears when it comes to politics.

2) The Hillary Clinton machine is a powerful force. She isn't taking any chances and has some huge players backing her. You know she has been planning this run for at least a decade. With so many influential people backing Hillary, Barack's uphill climb gets even tougher.

3) The perception that he has no actual policies.

hil-dog is just a cunt-y windbag.

why can't one political party have at least one decent candidate that is not an artificial human being.

I hate voting for president. I usually vote green party, since the usual democratic candidates disgust me with their straddle the fence psuedo-liberalism.

and shit like this.

Or the Flag-Lapel-pin-Patriotism gaffe. Not that either of these incidents really mean anything, but if you are running for president you have to be a lot more careful about what you say or do.

Obviously, those kinds of missteps shouldnt doom your campaign, though. Obama's problem is that his campaign just isn't being run as well as Hillary's. The last couple of proposals that Obama has floated out there on the campaign trail have been lol-worthy, and his handlers don't seem to be as good as getting his face out there and making him sound as good as Hillary's campaign managers do.

Its the same sort of thing that happened in the 96 Dole Campaign. Although that campaign was MUCH MUCH worse than this.

He doesn't have the money or big connections that Hildawg has. Not that that bothers me, because I'd rather see him nominated than any of the other big players (aside from Colbert) but I guess one man can't change the way campaigns work.

He's not an old white man.

Because like Thompson he had his best moments when people didn't see him actually perform and instead thought he was something better than he really was. When he stepped into the spotlight and had to perform he bombed the debates and has already made a ton of mistakes that the other candidates have not made. Hell the pin and not holding the hand over his heart thing would be enough for the Republicans to sink him in a general election.

The question you should be asking is why has he gotten so much support so far? What has he done (has he done anything in Congress) or what has he done with his campaign that makes him so great?

The reason why Obama is floundering is that his campaign team can't seem to wrestle away media initiative and narrative from Hillary Clinton's goon squad. It's extraordinarily difficult to make headway in polling and getting votes lined up when the media doesn't cover your campaign, but only how your campaign reacts to the moves made by another one.

TOP 5 REASONS

#1: The media wants the political catfight between Clinton and Guiliani. Chris Matthews admits this openly.

#2: Clinton has more money.

#3: There's more women than black people, giving Clinton the edge in the "First x President" showdown. Additionally, many black women support Clinton over Obama.

#4: Obama has been lackluster in the debates. Most of America hasn't seen his super-human speech-giving prowess. His nice-guy approach doesn't win him attention in a room full of big personalities and 30-second answers.

#5: Clinton is winning over a lot of people who initially though she was a cold, calculating bitch with no personality. She has done a lot to take control of the democratic debates without looking overbearing.

I can't quote this enough. He's great in interviews, regular speeches, and all that, but he's absolute shit in the debates.

Came in here to basically say exactly this.

Hillary keeps swiping away the news cycles from Obama's campaign. Barack isn't making news (or newsroom editors are choosing not to cover him in favor of Hillary). I still think he's much better poised a few years down the road to be an absolute juggernaut.

Yeah. He goes off quite detached an uniformed in debates, which is somewhat surprising given his Harvard law roots. I would guess that once the field lowers and it becomes an inevitable three person race, he'll be able to make a far better impression. Hillary has walked away with all the debates.

Who knows, maybe there will be a miracle and he'll beat Hillary in Iowa, maybe gain some momentum.

I see, so Obama has a "campaign team" while Clinton has a "goon squad."

I can see Obama's point with the flag lapel pin -- that was clearly a post 9/11 fad. But not putting your hand over your heart during the national anthem? That's just disrespectful. The guy wants to be President and he won't even follow that simple, time-honored gesture of patriotism? Not good at all.

There was an article about this on CNN yesterday. Obama has been running his campaign pretty much avoiding bashing the other candidates. The analyst who wrote the article stated that if Obama wants any chance of catching Hillary, he needs to start getting his hands dirty and doing some Anti-Clinton campaigning. Whether or not he will ditch his good guy image to do that remains to be seen.

It's no large shock that the Democratic party--a party so deeply-rooted historically in racism--would be so racist that apparently over 50% of them wouldn't vote for a black man, when it came down to it. That the Dems try desperately to appeal to the most base instincts of their most socially-regressive constituencies should also come to no shock, given the blatantly-transparent "gay baiting" of various Republican figures--including Karl Rove, Condi Rice, and, perhaps most disgusting of all, the horrible display of both the Democratic Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates trying to gain political headway by making Cheney's daughter's sexuality a campaign issue--as well as the Democratic front-runner's paleolithic attitude towards video game content, not to mention her mysterious and sinister ties with secretive religious organizations plotting to rule the world (or something! we don't even know what evil they're up to!!). Disgusting.
