So why is Barrack Obama failing?

I'm sure he is aware of it.

An intelligent person should also be able to quietly protest these vapid routines if he feels the country in question doesn't deserve them.

This country is in a crisis of its own creation. Putting your hand on your heart and singing "god bless america" isn't going to help anyone.

You don't seem to get it. Obama is running for president. He's not some dumb college kid wearing a Che shirt, who doesn't know how the country works. Not saluting the flag is one of the dumbest things you can do as a presidential candidate - and I'm surprised his advisers have allowed him to do this; maybe they realize he's irrelevent anyway. Not saluting the flag is seen as quite disrespectful, and cannot be positively spun to the American people.

All he is doing is attempting to appeal to the far left, at the expense of a far larger demographic. The far left isn't worth it

Personally? Because he's largely been rhetoric over policy and what policies he has introduced aren't differentiated enough to make me want to support him over some of the other candidates who, yes, do in fact have ample experience (namely, Biden, Dodd, and Clinton). I don't find his claims to having good judgement, namely because he was against the Iraq war from the start, to be unique or compelling enough to single-handedly gloss over all other aspects that a presidency entail. Nor do I find his counterargument that experience is potentially a detriment to the country's welfare; the Bush administration is, arguably, more of an exception than the rule.

PhoenixDark: Obama isn't pursuing the far left; that's Kucinich and Gravel's respective jobs. He has/had popularity with a fair chunk of independents and Republicans (although he may have lost that to Clinton in recent months), but that alone should indicate that he's pursuing more of a centrist set of policies, at least insofar as appeal goes, than you suggest.

No no no... once he explains that America isn't worth the fabric the flag's made of, I'm sure Americans will be flocking to support his candidacy.
