Sony Now Has More Live-Action And TV Shows Planned Than Video Games

Can they make Druckmann leave to oversee and direct these TV shows? The guy clearly wants to get into Hollywood and Naughty Dog really needs someone who actually wants to make video games. Win-win.

Exactly, last year was a great year for PS in comparison to releases on xbox. Had Helldivers 2, FF7 Rebirth, Stellar blade, Rise of the Ronin, Wukong, and Astrobot. Tons of GOTY contenders/winners. The xbox diehards keep spouting "but some of those aren't first party studios" and I'm sat here thinking why the hell would I care?

The amount of times I've read PS5 has no games.

It honestly takes olympic level mental gymnastics to make that argument.

The flawed logic came to life after MS basically bought half the industry - the criteria for online list wars then norrowed to first party vs first party only.

Nothing else matters.

Therefore, even though I can play and enjoy the following:

VR games don't count - Those great immersive experiences with 100's games already in the library, completely unnavailable on Xbox, don't count.
3rd Party exclusives don't count - Exclusives are wrong now, so exclude FF7 Rebirth, FF16, Stellar blade, Rise of the Ronin, Silent hill 2 but still include Stalker 2.
Games from the East don't count - Phantom Blade 0, Infinity Nikki, ZZZ, honkai star rail, China Hero games etc, games unnavailable on Xbox, don't count.
Games also on PC don't count - Counts only for Xbox games also available on PC.
Games developed by a 3rd party don't count - Games like Arrow heads Helldivers 2 are excluded but Asobo Studios Flight simulator is included.

It's ridiculous to exclude so many games then turn and say you have no games.

It's a level of cope to the point of losing all objectivity. Preferring to create there own reality and rules for what should or shouldn't matter for other gamers.

Like you said why the hell should I care.

Druckmann literally just said the 100% opposite of what you are accusing him of. Weird some of the hate he gets on here.

I vote this the BEST GAF post of 2025 so far!!!

I just don't think the guy is a good director after Last of Us 2. And no, I have not only issues with the writing and pacing of the story. I think it's also worse in level, combat and encounter design aspects than the first. I was actually so disappointed with the game that it killed all the interest that I had left for Naughty Dog, which is a shame. The Jak & Daxter games (yes, even Jak 3), Uncharted 2 are really good and the first Last of Us is pretty solid.

Your list seems pretty accurate and also just killed my hype for the rest of the rest of this gen for Sony. With that said I'll probably still end up buying at least a dozen games from that list.

Heh, keep in mind that the list is what I think will be on the lower end of the spectrum, I think there is more on top of that. Plus there are many new IP being made that we have no clue about yet.

Well, yeah, this is kinda why Sony invaded the living room in the first place.

Hardcore gamers never enjoy hearing it, but the harsh truth is that PlayStation was invented so that Sony could sell DVDs and Blu-Rays. The games were the Trojan horse, good in their own right, but never the main objective.

That's cool and that's your opinion of course. But what does any of that have to do with him only wanting to be a Hollywood Director and off videogames?

Outside of third party exclusives the list pretty much showed what will be most likely released for the next 3-4 years. Sony only has so many studios and if they are also personally remastering their games I can't see them making a lot of new IP. Plus it takes a 4-5 years to make a game these days.

Well there's a lot of new IP or new to Sony IP in there from PlayStation Studios such as:

Jason Blundell's game
Wolverine
Marathon
Intergalactic The Heretic Prophet
Fairgame$
Cory Barlogs game (new IP)
Housemarque new IP
Bend new IP
Action sci-fi game from new studio spun-off from Bungie (Project Gummy Bear)

There could be more on top of that from studios such as Bluepoint and Media Molecule as well. All of the above have been in development for around 3-5 years, give or take.

When it comes to Sony, one can not ignore XDEV either as they play a huge role in PlayStations output. SIE published new IP include:

Lost Soul Aside
Convallaria
Midnight Murder Club
Project Ooze
Physint

There will no doubt be more, but we can only speculate. That's on top of the mountain of sequels to existing IP. I don't know your personal tastes, but for me it's a buffet of content and I'll be eating very well 🤤

I'm just being extra annoying about the new IP and was only considering unannounced first party games so I guess the Bundell's game? , Barlog game, Housemarque, and Bend. It's a good amount from Sony for the next 3 years

That's how his games come across to me. Good for him if it's not the case. I hope he'll make something cool in the future at some point.

And here is me thinking, Playstation was invented as a addon for the SNES, but the deal with Nintendo went south, and so Sony said fuck it and rebuild it to be it's own console....

As long as a platform has enough games that you personally care about, then that's all that should matter.

Everyone's taste is different and as long as you are finding games that you genuinely enjoy it shouldn't matter where you play.

It's when you get into the weeds of what a "internet majority" feel like, where it gets messy.

Does Sony lose their license to shit up the Marvel Universe anytime soon?

Thinks buying more servers can fix a bad patch
We can consume their TV and live action stuffs while waiting for Sony's 1st party games announcement

You are so right in the picture with everything you've stated.

The people who are saying this kind of crap "PS5 has no games" are usually Xbots and/or Xbots-turned-PC Gamers. I think these people need to be reminded that PlayStation has always been a bastion of a beast for third-party games.

The PS1 and PS2 consoles prospered with third-party support, often with developers pushing the system to the limit, and frequently rivaling Sony's growing first-party developer studios like Naughty Dog. Those who are vocal saying that they're only interested in first-party games are a VERY vocal and tiny minority who do not reflect the overwhelming majority of gamers who are, nonetheless, buying PS5 systems, regardless of first-party game output. While I enjoyed games like Jak and Daxter, Sly Cooper, and Ratchet & Clank from Sony's first party games, 90 percent of the time I'm often playing second-party games and third-party games that are often much more enjoyable and better quality compared to the games I've listed.

If people are complaining about PS5 exclusives like Square Enix's games FF7 Remake Trilogy and Final Fantasy XVI, keep in mind that Sony is often bankrolling and offering huge developer support to these titles. If Square Enix is TRULY not happy with the sales of figures their games are having on the PS5, they have no one to blame but themselves. And releasing their games on PC and Xbox Day 1 will not solve the sales problem they've been complaining about. Dumping Sony's exclusivity will come back to bite them as they will have no Sony boogeyman to blame for another debacle about their games not "reaching expectations."

Articles like this are pretty trash, but I do think Sony has a massive communication issue.

Literally, one showcase could erase a lot of the negative narrative for Sony online with trailers, teasers, and game title announcements. \\

So even though this article is ridiculous, it's only able to be written in the vacuum of Sony's lack of communication with the public on what it is working on.

That being said, no company is working (publicly) on more than Intergalactic, Ghost of Yotei, Wolverine, and Marathon... That should be enough to gain ample good will, but I think gamers inherently want to know whats coming for the next 4 years.

Edit: And that doesn't even include Death Stranding 2.

That’s correct. Ever since the late 1969s, the dream of the computer future was a “set top box,” the convergence of all digital media in one device. It was all planned out by the visionary nerds at Bell Labs & Xerox PARC. And the entire computer industry was built to create that future.

The vicious plot twist, of course, is that Steve Jobs threw a massive monkey wrench into everybody’s plans (especially Microsoft). They took the set top box away from the television, and instead attached it to the portable telephone. Sony still had their home video formats, but Microsoft basically got screwed.

This is why we need a second Pirates of Silicon Valley so badly, where Steve Jobs plots his final revenge against Bill Gates. Tell me that wouldn’t be awesome.

Remember when Xbox was like TV, TV, TV, TV, living room, kinnect, always online, tv... maybe games later, and people rightfully gave them shit about it?

I guess that is where Sony is now, well except no spybox, and kinnect.

Care nothing for "gaming shows" .

Yeah, what really came put of the Xbox One 'TV' push? It was something that was hyped at launch, but quickly abandoned along with the push for the Kinect. I thik in Sony's case, they were burned one too many times on comic book movies. So they are switching gears to videogame licensed stuff.. movies and TV/ Streaming shows.
