Sony selling Special Editions ONLY in preorder is disappointing.

Then don’t bundle the edge with it. Just a non-numbered anniversary gray Pro for $699. They could still have their 12300 limited limited editions. It’s still leaving money on the table no matter which way you look at it.
They could have done a non numbered gray edition of the pro, I mean they did for the regular PS5

You can find gray plates though, have some pretty convincing ones on my PS5 launch console back home in Indiana that I bought off Amazon for like $50

And then suddenly the vast majority of "actual customers" are selling those limited editions on ebay for thousands, becoming scalpers themselves. I just don't get the point of complaining about this after the fact when everyone knew going in that getting one was going to be highly unlikely.
See? The main purpose of such low limited numbers is money when the purpose of entertainment hard should be entertainment. Even many die hard fans can't justify using it, because the moment they turn it on they didn't spend 499 or 799, they spent up to thousands. So they either sell it or Keep it as an Investment. Many eBay buyers will do the same hoping the price gets even higher.
If people are against the entire concept of limited editions then they shouldn't care either way as this was never for them. Otherwise, they set themselves up for disappointment, probably because they wanted to make a bunch of money selling the thing on ebay. lol
Many people love the "childhood" design and really wanted one for that purpose, limited or not. Sony could easily have sold hundred-thousands grey Pros and Slims.

I'm not a fan of limited stuff in general, but i can somehow understand shoes, books or trading cards. Expensive hardware that probably never gets used is a waste of ressources in my opinion.

I don't think we can ever agree on that one.

Sony has no way of determining the motive for someone buying their product. That's none of their business. Or ours, frankly.

Then the argument should simply be that Sony should offer some plates and skins that mimic that old design rather the "unfairness" of limited editions. You don't care for limited editions while others do. This isn't a market for you then. Simple as that. I don't care about limited edition shoes and I'm still able to buy my $60 Nikes so there isn't a problem that needs solving here.

Its literally how the queue system works and the very reason to log in with every device you have at your disposal to increase your chances of getting to enter the store early
Had no idea. That’s cool then. Still have my Pro ordered and I’m happy.

I have been hunting for the PS5 30th Anniversary Edition and it’s been impossible. The issue is not that the pre order runs out of stock, the problem is that when the release date comes, the product is 100% discontinued, at release day!

I get that the PS5 Pro bundle is limited (although extremely limited, they could’ve made at least 50,000), because it’s a bundle with a lot of products included, but why does Sony have to make the 30th Anniversary PS5 Slim also so limited (or any other) that it can’t even reach its own release date?
I've got a feeling these will reappear over the next few months, maybe not though but I think it makes too much sense not to. I had a pre-order for one from Direct but didn't want to have it just sit there in the box not being used, I'm way past that collector clutter thing and getting the 30th Pro made it seem extra pointless. Cancelled it and it went in stock for a few seconds before some scalper bot no doubt grabbed it.

Troll post?

123000 were made of the pro. Sure there should be more maybe 123000 per region.

I'm not too sad about missing one, but hell when the ps6 came out I'd be able to sell the ps5 pro limited for a tidy profit
12,300 only were made, not ten times that :) But 123k would have sold in a few minutes more, don't doubt it. It did its job - created a buzz and many news stories. If there were enough made so everyone could get one it feels like only a fraction of that free marketing and hype would have occurred.

Its a numbered limited edition, its like winning the lottery you either got very lucky or you are forced to buy someone else's good luck

I’m not referring to the Pro (although feel free to discuss it). This thread is about the PS5 Slim and other special editions that have released with the same conditions of not being available other than in their preorder period.

They need to change their mentality. Open up a very limited period, you have 24 hours to decide if you want that special edition, but everyone that wants one gets one. Limited TIME, not QUANTITY.

To me this is the correct way to do a Special or Limited edition. Yes, there can still be a Limited QUANTITY like the Pro, but the PS5 Slim should be by TIME! Even if it’s one day, you limit order to one per customer and produce whatever amount you got ordered.

Maybe instead of a limited edition, they should have just gone with an anniversary celebration edition. I'm not sure navigating shitty pre order queues and incentivising scalpers is the way to celebrate anything with your customers. They could have just ran the design for a year or so in a way to celebrate with ALL of their customers.

So how is it that this does not apply to limited edition "shoes, books or trading cards"?
I don’t know if shoes, books or trading cards also get discontinued even before release date. But if that happens, it’s also shouldn’t be like that. They should allow people to buy them.

In the case of the PS5 Slim, is not like they can’t make more. What do they gain to to release only 100k instead of at least 1 or 2 million? Is still limited, but not stupidly limited.

I have no idea how those other items work, how much they are limited and how they are being sold and how fast they are sold. Limited can also mean available for weeks like the limited Fortnite Dual Sense.

But i have seen how Sony managed it with the consoles and it sucked. I've seen plenty of disappointed PS fans and probaly even more scaplers on places like Foraum, Discord chanels etc. where people were trying to help each other to get a Slim on 10/10. Sony didn't even tell the limitation on these so nobody knew how bad it would be. And it was really bad. Scaplers had an Amazon basket deep link to oneclick buy it. It didn't even change it's status from unavailable on the site. Sold out before it was available for normal people. Some insiders from Media Markt and Saturn had the internal article number and so people also could already buy before it was listed. One store worked with phone orders. After 30 minutes queue people heard "Sold out". Some People drove 100km to pre order one with full upfront pay in stores. And yet nobody is safe from cancellation. Many people from almost all stores already got cancellations.

And now let's not forget all the people that had no time to camp the computer for hours or go shopping. In My country drops came on a normal work day between 9 and 12 AM. Same goes for the Pro, stupid time during week with an even more stupid and time consuming queque system.

The easiest solution would have been Limited Pro and Unlimited Slim. Would have made most people happy.

So but that's now really it from me to this topic. You can answer whatever you want, but i won't answer anymore questions.

If it makes you feel any better, I’m a regular customer and I got a PS5 Pro Anniversary bundle and I’m 100% keeping it.

I mean....yeah, limited editions are hard to get. No shit man. All those people wouldn't be going to all that effort other wise. It makes zero difference if Sony stated the number of limited edition Slims. The folks who didn't get them still wouldn't have got them. And 10/10 was all non-Sony vendors. Sony doesn't have control over how those outlets sell their stuff so not sure what Amazon's "deep link" has to do with anything.

There is an "unlimited Slim". It's the regular PS5 Slim. If you are telling me that these people were going crazy trying to buy the limited edition just for the color scheme then sorry, I'm not buying it. Folks wanted the limited edition because it was limited. That's just how this works. Same with shoes.

Now they will "settle" for the normal Pro to scratch that FOMO itch, when they would have not bought it otherwise.

There were plenty of us talking about buying the Pro long before it was ever even announced, much less the limited edition.

I suspect they try to use the scalpers to generate hype (for the normal editions)

Take GAF. Nobody gave a crap about the Pro until the Scalper Edition was announced. Then it was like the best thing ever.

Uh....the threads going back weeks discussing the Pro say otherwise.

It is total dogshit that they're celebrating 30 years of Playstation by releasing ultra limited edition anything.

People have been Playstation fans and supporters for 30 fucking years, they shouldn't be rolling over each other outbidding to scalpers that sell this shit for 300% premium.

Sony you clueless morons, make this "celebration" available to anyone who wants it. Dumb fucks.

There are also plenty of people talking about the earth being flat and that the 2020 election was rigged.

I'm just joking around. This topic is already so far off the rails, I thought I'd join in the fun.

I haven't thought about the 30th at all since preorders sold out. I am definitely excited to pick up my Pro day one and play a really nice backlog through the holidays. I think people lose sight of what gaming should be about. I guarantee if the Pro was as hard to get as the PS5 was a few years back you'd see more people trying to get one. Do you want to brag and post pics or do you want to play games on the best console ever made...

Like others have said, just wait out for some sick looking replacement covers that look just like it (That aren't sold by Sony and their insane markups). It's what I'll do if I decide to get a pro once they decide to show me UPCOMING games that benefit from having one and not 60 games I've already finished. I kind of want one for Monster Hunter Wilds but they need to put out more stuff to make me excited. Nobody gives a fuck anymore about Ratchet and girl Ratchet from the beginning of the generation.

Buying into storing something for 20-30 years is a privilege?

I don't got space for that kind of bullshit.

What happened to the good ol' days where everyone said money was easy to get?

I said it before and I will say it again. By not having the 30th edition widely available for the next six months is simply Sony leaving money on the table. I’m spending $700 for the pro, but if I could get the 30th Pro I would have no qualms spending the $1000.

Sonys dumb af right now. Lead in the water or something.
If Sony actually did that then you'd have people bitching about arrogant Sony using nostalgia to price gouge loyal fans.
