Sony's 'PS5 Ready' X900H TV may not get HDMI 2.1 features (Up: Sony confirm features still coming)

mod edit: updated as per developments

Well Sony response.

So why people are suing the feature won’t come anymore?

So I'm guessing a fair amount of people on GAF bought this TV for the PS5,specifically for the features and 'PS5 ready' advertisments. The TV was meant to support 4K/120Hz but had severe blurring issues acknowledged by Sony

So eventually, they released firmware version 6.0414 in order to resolve this specific issue (4K/120Hz only). It improved it significantly in most cases, but there are still issues that become more evident with distance/angle of viewing.

That's where most of us are now, waiting for the promised ALLM/VRR update which is supposedly due in Spring. However, various customer service chats has led many people to believe the features are no longer coming and the specific references are being removed from promotional material. Sony committed to these features being enabled by firmware which is still there on some regional sites but has been removed from others

But still remains on the SKU features

Polygon originally picked up this with 4K/120Hz with VRR and ALLM coming later. Reddit is blowing up with and rtings as well. Pretty shitty move if it's true. Rtins has also picked it up and reached out to Sony (https://www.rtings.com/tv/discussio...fficially-concedes-vrr-and-allm-is-cancelled_

Terrible business practice and marketing if they don’t get those features in there, but I’ll keep mine as I didn’t really care about the 2.1 features when I bought. It was just the best name brand FALD 4K, HDR TV I could find for under $1k for a 65”.

As it goes with consumer electronics NEVER buy based off of promises of firmware updates in the future. Buy it for the features it has at time of purchase because stuff like this can and will happen. Or alternatively wait until the firmware update does happen and make your purchase then.

Why would you even consider replacing the CX? Still, it has G-Sync and Freesync Premium = best for PC.

I was considering X900H but stopped with the 120Hz blur. Now aiming for X95J instead or the A90J and A80J OLED's if the cooling system is good.
The blur reports are weird to me. I’ve only played R6, BL3 and CoD at 120 on mine but there is zero blur. Maybe that’s a PC problem?
In all fairness too though I bought the tv and just use it. I’m not in search of issues. No time for that shit.

Still a great tv overall, but X90J should get a noticeable upgrade with the new processor. Going for X95J though.

I've been following this issue on avs forum, twitter, etc. I bought the 65 inch 900H from Costco in November and have about 2 months left to return it due to Costco's awesome return policy. I've owned several sony TVs and the picture quality is pretty outstanding on the 900H. However, there is definitely something going on when you set either the PS5 or Series X to 120hz. The blur is noticeable and it almost looks like upscaled 1080p. No VRR and and ALLM is a big deal since I bought this tv set exclusively to play my consoles on. I will probably end up returning it and look at the LG CX or wait to see if sony gets their act together for the new tvs that are releasing.

This seems like it can’t possibly be true? This would be an absolute slaughter in the UK/EU. Sony won’t have a foot to stand on if people want their money back.

I have 60 inch LG C9 and 60 inch Sony h900x

not even a fight, lg image quality is far ahead (Oled I know)

wont return the Sony, pretty sure I won’t use vrr. Still lame from sony

Severe blurring issues is too dramatic. There's an issue, no doubt, see below, but for most people it's not really going to be noticed & for PS5 users who were going to have a heavily post-processed image below native 4K anyway - good luck finding it. At the end of the day it was still the best choice out of a bad bunch if you didn't want oled, so unless you wanted to wait another year for a TV, then it was a good purchase. Though for my money I'd have ponied up a little extra and went 950H. Is it sad that that's the state of the industry? Absolutely.

I'm retarded?
I mean sure that sucks but what games are you people playing on PS5 at 120fps? COD? Yeah I don't nor will I ever care about hdmi 2.1. At least not in the next 3 years.

You did the right thing, Blly. LG OLED > all.
i can't go back to non-oled now. i still have my previous TV and i can't believe i thought that looked good. it looks so dull and washed out or as though the entire screen is glowing.

when the time comes to replace this TV i'm going OLED again unless there is something else better. i see mini led mentioned a lot lately so maybe that's next. i don't know.

Urgh... Looks like I'll wait a little while longer before upgrading my 1080P set. I do remember even the LG CX OLED has gamut issues when running with VRR so that isn't an ideal option either.

I got mine from Costco and my 90 day return ended couple weeks ago. I wonder if i can still try to return. I love the tv but man this is some straight up bullshit. I bought it specifically for PS5.

They are pretty good about returns. I would still try it or maybe ask them at the returns desk before you pack it up and bring it back.

I dont know what other tv to get. I leave my tv on pretty much all day long as background noise for my cats. I also saw alot of Oled stutter with games I'm super sensitive to that stuff. Im stumped. How exactly does this affect PS5 gaming specially?

I've only ever owned Sony TVs but whoever is in charge of their TV division needs to be fired already. And time to tear down the silos between the divisions already.

OLED TVs with 2.1 are popular on PC.
how? A PC desktop alone seems like the perfect conditions for image retention/burn-in; unless you don't mind buying a new one every 2-3 years.
Friend of mine only got a CX because LG had to replace his E7 that got burn-in after just two years of watching TV, I'd imagine the static elements on PC are a thousand times worse.

I don't understand why people buy anything but an LG or a Samsung if they want a TV for gaming... for real... get an LG or a Samsung...
LCD has zero risk of burn in, can get much brighter, especially in HDR and can keep full saturation at high brightness which WRGB OLEDs can't. Samsung has inaccurate colors etc etc. Not saying LG CX isn't a very good choice for gaming it's just that there are legitimate reasons not to.
