Hope I'm wrong, but this game isn't giving me very good vibes. I'm not a fan of Compulsion and don't know why MS bought them. What I see in this game hasn't done anything to make me think otherwise, but I'll download it day one and give it a fair shot. Maybe it will surprise me.

Art design and music will be through the roof. Looks super good, super original.

The big surprise will be if they make it fun to play in the gameplay department. Their past games were lacking there.
Yeah, I expect the gameplay to be competent and functional but not exceptional, with everything else overcompensating for it to hopefully make a memorable experience.

While what you say is 100% true for the individual; with gaming becoming a global phenomenon if M$ don't spend the small amount of money for translation Vs. The potential colossal amounts of sales they lose its really a case of them gimping themselves with poor decisions and allocation of resources.

Of course this game is going to probably flop regardless because its not globally appealing but the principle stands in general lol
I always find the review bombing on Steam interesting when the game doesn't have Chinese or Spanish.

In my days it was just assumed that you needed to learn English to play games. And vidya was a great way to do it.

Did you like Kena?
Gameplay was mostly very enjoyable. Really smooth double jump.
Graphics were mostly very enjoyable but I quickly grew tired with the super cutesy furballs.
I ended up bailing on the game after some of the ridiculous bosses, but I still mostly liked it. Bought the game twice. Collectibles were also pretty weak, being just hats. Story was kind of a nonfactor for me.

This seems similar to me

Won’t get to play it unless it’s ported but seems like a similar vibing game

If the gameplay is as good as Kena, I'll be happy. Compulsion hasn't really pulled that off yet, so hopefully it hits that.

Compulsion has great style in their games. I loved the look of both Contrast and We Happy Few, but as you say, the gameplay just wasn't there. With South of Midnight, I'm not 100% sold on the style, but I wasn't sold on Avowed's either and it was actually really good. So maybe this will be the same.

Yeah, Avowed really exceeded my expectations. I don't think anyone expected the combat and gameplay to be the star of the show. A huge accomplishment for Obsidian which usually only excels in the general writing / lore / creativity. I'm still less than half way. Been short on gaming time lately.

Avowed was a huge surprise for me. This is why I pound the pulpit and preach that there is just not a good substitute for actually playing a game. YouTube, twitch, etc......it ain't the same at all.

I agree but I don't necessarily think it is organic not to be able to decide on a game from looking at things. Nowadays everyone has an agenda. It wasn't always like this. I'm guilty of it too.

That's what I'm hoping for as well. I want something to tide me over until Doom, but I'm not optimistic about this game.

Remember, that company was making fun of gamers.

So, don't even buy anything from them.

I get what you are saying. It makes sense that people watch videos and such to decide if they want to play a game, but I think actually forming an opinion on how good a game actually is requires real playtime. That shouldn't really be a controversial thing to say but I've debated that point more times then I think I should have. A lot of times it is agenda driven, as you say, whether it is political or platform or whatever. Doesn't really matter. At that point, it is just an uninformed opinion in my eyes.

Be sure to notifiy the internet police that someone online had a different opinion to you.

I'll get ahold of the council of feelings and I'm sure we can fix this problem together.
It's not the difference of opinion that's annoying. It's the hivemind behind it, on top of the ridiculous ways people attempt to humiliate others for enjoying something. It's like how die-hard woke folks are annoying except on the exact opposite side of the fence. Just because you're not woke, doesn't make you any less annoying than people that are. I think class and etiquette is missing from many forum goers here. I'm no angel, but it's exhausting.

Or...

stay with me.

who cares, and just let people say what they want and disagree or agree.

Game looks visually quite cool. Not sure if it's is super woke or not, but if people want to make woke games for themselves to enjoy, that's totally fine. My problem is when it gets injected into previously existing franchises where it doesn't belong.

I’ve seen the ‘race swapping’ allegations but that’s could easily have been completely made up.
Certainly given the setting of the game, the current protagonist makes sense.

I thought they admitted that cause they didn’t feel like they could write a black woman in the deep south, until they hired a consultant. Maybe that was rumor too. Idk. I saw it awhile ago.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

If true, it might have been a completely different story then, cause the current story, atleast what we've seen of it, seems like it's explicitly tailored to black centric/themed lore.

I wish this looked even vaguely interesting from a gameplay perspective because American Southern Gothic is a woefully underutilized aesthetic that gets me rock hard.

PS: This makes me wish The Skeleton Key had been a better movie.
