Hardware sales: PS5 Pro breaks forecasts with a launch of 10,000 consoles in Spain​

When Mark Cerny and Sony announced the features and retail price of the PlayStation 5 Pro, many of us thought that such an amount of money would deter many potential buyers from getting it, even more so when the box did not include either the vertical stand or the disc reader module. But once again, buyers are surprising by their massive support for this mid-generation hardware, just as they did three years ago with the Nintendo Switch OLED. Ten thousand one hundred (10,100) PS5 Pro were sold in its first three days on the market. And as a curious but relevant fact, only 2,600 external disk drives were sold to attach it to the Pro model (or the Slim model), so it seems that many of them are intended to be enjoyed expressly with digital titles. In addition to this spectacular launch, Sony placed another 5,300 PS5 Slim in the hands of buyers.

Between 4-6k (not counting discounts)

During discounts it's around 8-12k

So, nothing has changed.

And this is combined Xbox sales. Individually, the Quest 3 outsold both consoles.

It depends, Spain is one of the most biased European countries, the Pro has been criticised a lot in there.

And at the same time, economics are very different compared to the other European countries.

10.1k is phenomenal since most people were expecting around 4-5k pro consoles sold.

Also, the system is €800 without a disc drive.

I didn’t say anything along those lines or against the Pro. This is about numbers, and I’m asking questions and drawing conclusions. But if it makes you feel better, here’s some balm for your peace of mind: the Pro is a fine console, no need to get emotional about this topic.

Okay, I didn’t know about that; I don’t read Spanish news, but that shifts the perspective a bit.
Still, I’m curious to see more sales figures, especially over a longer period.

Spain has been the most Playstation biased country in the world for decades now and sales alone should be enough proof. Nintendo is a distant second with a healthy fanbase but nowhere close.

Xbox evangelists are so thoroughly abused over here it's a martyrdom fest. They seem so out of touch it's actually fascinating.

Interesting. It seems there's an approximately 25% attach rate for the disc drive among those who bought the PS5 Pro in Spain (likely a bit lower, as the numbers also include PS5 Slims, and some of these drives were purchased for those consoles). I wonder how much higher this rate would be if the drives were more readily available. Plus, I bet there were quite a few Pro buyers like myself who bought their disc drive weeks before the Pro's release.

Honestly, we might even see PS5 outselling XBS 4 to 1 by the end/lifetime.

Sony is gearing up to release their heavy hitters from their major studios, GTA VI will do numbers as well and XBS will only sell less and less.
