Yes!!!! A sigh of hope that FFIX Remake could actually be real after all!!!

The best FF game and also the most unique one by far.

There’s plenty of fantasy style games but none were as unique as FFIX as its location and setting art has some elements from Jim Henson plus some other unique mix of Norse Myth and others.

plus, it's the only ff featuring chocobo hot & cold!...

A few things I hope they keep for the Remake are

1. Don’t make it into another generic weeb game. Usually when a Jrpg goes all cute/chibi style they’ll look like those weeb like style that existed in many anime/jrpg but FFIX was somehow able to avoid that and have a non weeb style despise being in the chibi/cute design.

2. Keep the unique fantasy setting that made it stand out from other fantasy games instead of turning it into another generic fantasy setting. The world of FFIX was so unique that it might as well be the Jrpg of Morrowind.

Famitsu Interview:

Interviewer:

"Mister Nomura, are you excited to be the director of the Final Fantasy IX Remake"?

Nomura:
"I always wanted to work on Final Fantasy IX, as it's one of the few I didn't work on. Now as the director of the remake I can finally put my spin on the story as I always thought they should have done especially now that I will make
a lot of improvements and try to appeal more to western audiences. As Final Fantasy XVI proved to be successful and I would like to try the same thing.. Time will play a big role in the
remake and we plan to expand the story more, as I always thought it was lacking on all aspects. There were never enough dimensions for my taste and always thought that Zidane's tail was very under utilised as a tool. Especially
given that now we will be using Zidane's tail as a time travel device. Vivi was always not expanded on enough in the original game, that is why he will play a bigger role, and by bigger role, we are literally making him bigger. And we
will now make it mandatory to complete 100 jumps successfully at the jump rope mini game at the start before being able to continue with the story. We are also adding 50 more mini games to the game. And we are replacing Tetra Master
with something even better."

As for Sarah.......erm I mean Garnet, Dagger. She has many names but we will surprise fans and give her another name. Think of it as a beyond the grave situation. We are excited to butcher and completely ruin a classic. And I
can't wait to begin my directorial role I have plenty of ideas that I still have ready from my failed.....I mean, director days of Final Fantasy Versus XIII that I would like to change and use in Final Fantasy IX Remake."

Interviewerer:
"Any words for the excited fans"

Nomura:
"Please be excited"

I could never get into this one because I couldn't find any of the main characters appealing in any way. Even Garnet, who was at least attractive, got given a bad haircut halfway through.

Beatrix was cool though.

TGO

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
Those action figures are made after the new character models in the incoming remake, aren't they? They're so well detailed.
FORM-ISM range, they're usually small and about £40, not like the Playarts or staticarts and just like all their stuff, I wouldn't expect the shipped version to look like it.

Surprised they didn't do a Playarts one, I don't believe IX has any other then the original release decades ago.

You had me in the first half, not gonna lie.
I’d be happy with the original at 60fps and AI-upscaled backgrounds, but somehow that seems harder than a full remake.
The game was never anything special on the gameplay front. It was all about the wonderful fantasy atmosphere and setting, the story, and the minigames. Hot ‘n Cold Chocobo is too much fun, especially in the remaster where you can speed up the game but the timer keeps ticking at normal speed. The music is great, too.

Looks what Square did with Star Ocean the second story. That game is far more "3D" than FF9.

2d-hd games are sprites walking around in 3d environments, which Second Story already was originally.

FF9 is 3D characters on pre-rendered backgrounds. It's the complete opposite. Do you want super detailed 3d characters running around on intentionally low-fi flat backgrounds?

Just make it look like Fantasian, but with rendered backgrounds rather than miniatures. (or fuck, build miniatures, but no way Square's gonna do that.)

My guess is you're gonna see the remake in the next three months. The real question is, Switch 2 Direct, a future Nintendo Direct, or Summer Games Fest?
There's also some new gaming event end of April I recall.

+there'll be a State of Play in May as usual.

I think there's a decent shot it gets announced at the Switch 2 reveal event, it could even be a launch game.

It'll be multi plat, but it would make sense for S-E as they are trying to grow the popularity of the series outside of Playstation.

Hopefully they remaster it as is by just using modern graphics. It’s fine as it is and don’t want square ruining another game. I love IX so much and it’s perfect in its original form.

Get off your hands from FFIX Remake, Nomura!

But you have permission to work on FF8 Remake though.
