Square Enix launches Final Fantasy IX 25th Anniversary "News" page.

Like others have said, I played Moguri Mod and that's the definitive way to play classic FF9.

Now the Memoria Project is something you can set your watch to. If they pull this off, I'm on board.

If they pull what off? That was the project, and it took years.

Unplayable mock-up footage of what a modern FFIX could look like.

True, since they showed they have finally perfected the formula they should hurry up and put those skill into a new garme not bogged down by those shitty old ones.
Aren't those new, "perfected" FF games selling below Square's expectations, though?

I think they said remake surpassed expectation. while Rebirth was below expectations, although it did better than expected on PC.

Wasn't thinking about that at all though it's irrelevant to me Tons of the best games i played got little critical acclaim

Fair enough, I still think the FF7 Remake games and FF16 were pretty mediocre, and I rather prefer the "old shit". But to each their own, I guess. Maybe FF7 Remake Part 3 will be good, who knows.

Square has unreasonable expectations. Remember when they called Tomb Raider a failure because it only sold 3.5 million units in it's first 2 weeks?
Yeah, I remember that. Unfortunately for them, they don't have Eidos to blame for their bad performance anymore at investor meetings.

Was only talking about FF7 not a fan of FF16, wished it had the rebirth battles system

So go play the old shit…this viewpoint is tired. No one is making you play a remake or remaster, and the old versions still exist.

I am doing exactly that. I wouldn't say no to a new Final Fantasy that isn't shit, tho. But at least I have Dragon Quest still. Although I am a bit afraid of them "revamping" the battle system for DQ12... Not against trying new things if they are implemented well. But I am against new things that are implemented poorly.

Agreed with Dragon Quest…if they do add a more action based battle system, I hope they also have a turn-based system. Maybe one that you can switch between. Almost like DQXI system, where you could switch to a free run type mode. Just don’t get rid of the turn-based system for DQ, that’s the uniqueness of the series.

Or maybe they do something similar to Metaphor, where you have a rudimentary action combat system for easy/trash fights and the possibility to go into a turn-based combat mode.
