Other than strange new worlds, I really dislike new trek. Last season of Picard was pretty good as well.

Feel like there is a market for really good sci-fi. For some reason, we just can’t get it anymore.

Have no idea what this crap is. Just make it stop.

Btw, just rewatched Star Trek The Motion Picture. Not the best movie, but interesting plot looking at it from the lens of today with AI.

Now onto The Wrath of Kahn!

I thought they gave up on making this piece of shit years ago. At least it's not a series I guess? (says PG-13 so I'm assuming this is direct to VHS trash, so to speak).

The Cockatrice

I'm retarded?
Didnt know Disney took control over the Star Trek franchise as well. Did the produces of this show looked at Star Wars being a fucking flop and said, yeah, lets do that shit as well????? Might as well just ruin every sci-fi franchise.

Let me take your high ideals science fiction show and turn it into an action show.

I will watch it, but this is about as far from Roddenberry’s vision as you can get.

Personal understanding of secret government entities they don’t seem to bring much good. Or they save the world at a great cost to the people they claim to protect.

How is it that only a cartoon (Lower Deck) accurately captures Star Trek of all the modern day stuff? They keep ramping up the production values and turning down the lights dimmer and dimmer in these series.

Unremitting fucking garbage that has zero comprehension of what Star Trek is meant to be about. Other than Picard season 3, Trek has been an endless stream of toxic effluence for many years.
Strange New Worlds is pretty good. So is Lower Decks for that matter, with only the first season being a bit wonky.

Discovery is quite bad though, and so is this from the looks of it.

Can You Imagine What SureAI Is Going To Do With Garfield?
This is real ass shit and looks nothing like Star Trek at all. This is the equivalent of Disney Acolyte or some other abomination.

What is happening here? Who in the hell thought this was a good idea? How in any way shape or form is the Star Trek?

I'm going to shit my pants.

For me its the whirlwind camera motion, the lens flare to 11, and the apparent lack of any suggestion of intellectual discourse that makes this a no go for me. The casting itself is relatively meaningless, Yeoh herself has a VERY strong resemblance to an ex-girlfriend so it's always fun to watch her :p

But the vibe of this show, much like Discovery, is bleach in my eyes. I'm watching TNG now and its just a fun show with cameras that stay in place, gives the actors room to breathe, and doesn't feel like it need to throw millions of $$$ worth of effects at you in order to tell a good story.

And no hint of the Section 31 shown in DS9 with the likes of Sloan!

Just look at how it is shot, lit, and acted. They let the script do the work, let the actors do the work. The goal of the cinematographer is to be as invisible as possible. Versus what I watched of Discovery and saw in the S31 trailer where the camera is an ACTIVE participant in making everything feel as breathless as possible.

It's a movie. Not a show.

I had high hopes for a series or movie based on section 31.

Maybe I'll try some of the books. The episodes in ds9 with section 31 were some of the best trek episodes.

The Balance of Terror SNW is one of the best modern Trek episodes.
Besides that story, the way the series highlights how perceptive Spock is, intelligence with natural telepathic strength, is one of my favourite modern characterizations.

The SNW crossover ep with Lower Decks is what got me to watch it.
Lower Decks has shown to really understand Trek, even with evolving it they hadn't lost the recognizable essence. That first season is pretty rough.

As someone who loves tng, ds9, Voyager, I think New Worlds is pretty decent.

Better spock than the new Trek movies in retrospect (i recently rewatched them and Quinto is kinda meh as spock).

Its tons better than that garbage discovery which I quit after S1, Picard was also trash imo. Dont watch Lower Decks.

Ok, I’ll give anything with Michelle Yeoh a chance as she is awesome
Same here but she needs a new agent. She has been attached to failing fantasy show after failing sci-fi show after failing fantasy show.

Not saying this will fail but it definitely looks shaky.

Her legacy is being slowly tarnished by this and it’s might grow into a meme of ‘If Michelle Yeoh is in this then the show is cursed to be cancelled’

It's not as bad as anything that's been done, but it's still ultra-light TNG with an unbearable teenage edge. I quite agree with Mike on that.

Well, Section 31 is going to be shit. It's clearly the antithesis of what Star Trek should be, but since they haven't given a damn for so long...

Yeah but Mike hasnt watched anything past the first few episodes. I think it gets a lot better in S2 although I hate the fact they added the funny old women from Kimmy Schmidt series. She sucks

There are one or two episodes that stand out, but honestly I can barely remember the rest. There's a lot of hamming it up and it's just “copying” TNG, only not as well and with less interesting actors.

I'm watching it because SNW is a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine. But I don't expect much from it.

My issue with SNW is that its a season of TNG with ALL the "rando eps" cut and so it's nothing but the "special cast member focused episodes". Those eps were awesome in TNG because we only got a few each year and the regular eps were good to great as well. But with just 10 eps it a solid "here is my trauma/drama" wave with no respites.
