Are there no non-3D IMAX showings of this? Can't seem to find any in the Indianapolis area.
You're actually in luck. The Indiana State Museum is one of only 20 theaters receiving 70mm 2D IMAX prints. I live in Northwest Indiana but I hope to take the three hour trip someday in December and catch there.
So you are telling me there is no way to see this in IMAX 2D in New york city ?? dear god.
What?! Never been to the theater before? How is this possible?
Yeah, My buddy has some pretty kick ass lighsabers so I will be going as a Jedi. Got a beard and everything.Anyone dressing up for the midnight showings? Me and a pal are planning to do it, but I'm not sure if it's a done thing here in Ireland.
Technically it isn't the first screening. First screening are at 7:00 PM.

Wish I could find a party. Don't think there will be any near me.I could only get tickets for the 10pm show. Gonna be a late night. Hopefully I can find a Star Wars themed after party.
I don't think there's any way to watch it in IMAX 2D anywhere.
Only being released in IMAX 3D, RealD 3D, and conventional 2D IIRC

not true, there are about 20 IMAX theatres remaining that still have 70mm projectors only, those 20 theatres will screen the 70mm print film in 2d.

Through the O2 Priority thing?Last week I won tickets to the premiere in Leicester Square on the 16th... pretty hyped I have to say,
Saw a guy on my twitter talk about seeing people scalping their opening night/opening day tickets online.
Which is ridiculous because most theaters still have seats for a screening on the 18th, and definitely still have seats for the 19th and 20th.
People seem to be in the headspace where (a) only opening weekend matters and (b) you can't possibly get in on opening weekend.
For as many pre-release tickets have been sold, this isn't true at all. But the rain of hype falling down has people believing opening weekend is just this locked up zoo of humanity bulging the cages. I do wonder if this will hurt walk-ups (a large, large majority of ticket buyers still) for the opening weekend.
You might be on to something, it really is a white area!
I checked again tonight, there has been 20 tickets booked for the midnight showing on Wednesday(all the fancy seats have gone)
I was the first person to book tickets for Saturday at 6pm.(got the fancy seats)
They are showing it 18 times a day(9 2D, 9 3D) for the first weekend, maybe that is why it is so easy to get tickets.
it's mainly opening night tickets in IMAX type venues. .
Although to be fair, half of that seems to be a general expectation that Star Wars fans are going to act the fuckin' fool in the most insufferable of ways.
Which I can't necessarily blame them for.
Yeah, we know that. But I feel like not so many others actually know that. It's a more and more common sentiment for people to say "I want to see it, the ads look great, but there's NO WAY I'm gonna be able to watch it opening weekend."

yeah, I've said all along i think their biggest message they need to drive is there are tons of seats for opening weekend and you can see it just fine. Reserved good seats are plentiful as the weekend goes on.
They basically started with that message too the day after they put tickets on sale. I think it's getting through, but tough to be sure until the receipts come in.
Through the O2 Priority thing?
You lucky lucky man. I'm dying to go there.
I'll be there*!Yeah that's right. Can't wait!
