I migrated to Australia in early 90's. I vividly remember touching down in Melbourne and being driven to my uncle's place. Looking at cars and people. I honestly started entertaining the thought of my flight going through some sort of time warp wormhole. Taking me back to late 70's.

I think this is overall good news as it should mean that Steam Deck 2 should have broader reach and direct support by Valve distribution wise too. Australian users will have an easier time to get their devices serviced too.

So Valve dumping their old inventory on us Aussies to make room for the Deck 2?
I believe valve said this was done not just to sell the steamdeck but all future hardware into australia too, basically they used this as the test bed to build the distribution channels for the future.

Don't do it!
Very likely to have a modern SD release in 2025.
From yesterday:

Speaking to Reviews.org Australia here's what Steam Deck designer Lawrence Yang said about a Steam Deck 2:

It is important to us, and we’ve tried to be really clear, we are not doing the yearly cadence. We’re not going to do a bump every year. There’s no reason to do that. And, honestly, from our perspective, that’s kind of not really fair to your customers to come out with something so soon that’s only incrementally better. So we really do want to wait for a generational leap in compute without sacrificing battery life before we ship the real second generation of Steam Deck. But it is something that we’re excited about and we’re working on.

Generational leap still sounds like late 2026 or 2027 to me.
