I'm Jewish and I never really saw Pepe as an antisemitic symbol. A lot of edge lords use it but beyond that, meh.

Not gonna read the entire report but just posting a picture doesn't mean it's suddenly an -ist place. They could be discussing X game had Y symbol (that needed to be removed). Sure, there'll be genuine -ists but let's stop being so sensitive that any and all images are automatically in negative context. Stop being soft, basically.

Steam forums may be a shithole at times, but still way better than whatever GOG has unfortunately.
You can also get support there from a developer and on occasion actually discuss with one.

And they do get moderated (at least the game specific ones) and there's a proper(-ish) report system and an ability to "block a user" (but kind of hidden).

Of course, don't go into off-topic threads or "this is too woke!" (or whatever the other side claims these days ("where is the representation?", "the developer did a tweet post a decade ago and dumped my friend on a date") threads and then act like you didn't expect the toxicity or dummass-ery of the discussion there.

Absolutely not. There is way too much great stuff in there, even if sometimes there are a few bad apples.
The Steam community is awesome and one of it's greatest strengths.
Game guides. Troubleshooting tips, that are better than official game support. Workshop tweaks and mods. Many reviews that are more professional than gaming journalists. Amazing screenshots.

I can't accept that we would discard so much great stuff, because of a few bad apples.
The solution is not to close the Steam community. The solution is to moderate the forums. Just like the mod team does it on Gaf, for example.

The Steam forums are moderated AFAIK. Could that moderation be tighter? Probably.

However, moderation is not what's being demanded here. What's being demanded here is censorship.

That's a small fraction of steam, and it's wrong to make sweeping statements on steam. These guys are also the most active on the forums while normal people are busy playing games over there. I don't think that platform needs to have a forum. It's unnecessary. Imagine playstation or xbox having forums for each of their games in their own store. It would be a mess.

Yeah, but clowns who dismiss opposite points of view (even if you express it in a far more polite manner), distort them and leaving them like very low human beings never counts, specially if you touch certain "things" of the game. And of course being the 90% of their messages about the same bullshit, with most of their profiles in private or without having any games in the library. They aren't toxic, angry, prejudice, create hate or even aware of that. They're not flamers of any kind. Steam forums aren't a laughable shitshow (specially in recent releases) because of them, only because the whatever-ists.

Like 50% of Twitch emotes are some variation of Pepe, and they still want us to believe it's a nazi symbol? lol

yup, pepe and peepo are by far the most prolific emotes used on twitch... well, not twitch directly but through the BTTV addon.

here are the most used BTTV emotes on twitch:

out of the 32 most used ones, 15 are Pepe and Peepo variants (Peepo itself is a variation of Pepe of course)

Steam is one of the few platforms of gaming that actually allows communities and discussions to happen. I'm guessing that has triggered a certain few on the Internet. Matter of time until it gets closed down and moderated to irrelevance like everything else.
It's one of the last few places that is reminiscent to the early days of the internet.

I agree that it won't last for much longer.

Absolutely nothing of value would be lost by closing the Steam community pages.

You got any question about any game imaginable you ask in it's Steam community page and someone will try to help you.

steam forums are indeed complete dogshit, it's probably the worst community to post in.
You could close down steam forums and nothing really should be lost, any fixes or tips or helpful insights can be submitted as guides as well.
Very sporadically you'll have developers actually be active on the steam forums, and that's when it's good, you actually get some high level communication and are able to address things directly, but otherwise it's just wild west dogwater cesspool, and has been so forever.

It’s a small fraction of the user base. Just purge the accounts clearly supporting Islamist, Communist, Nazi or terrorist elements and nothing valuable will be lost.

This is just the next talking point that online gamers are the reason Kamala lost/Trump won. They also started going after AVGN.

You realize... Lots of video games have swastikas in them right??? Post a picture talking about any WWII shooter, and you've probably posted a picture of a swastika
I've seen tons of actual pro-nazi shit on there, this isn't a new topic.

It's mostly edgelords being edgy, but Steam has never really done anything about it.

Not to mention the examples in the article. lol

I agree that the Steam forums have become a joke lately. It's impossible to have a normal conversation there specially new releases

People tend to praise Steam as if it was a holly place but this company has failed hard when it comes to control their forums
Yeah, I am a fan of Steam, but their community forums are complete trash and Valve isn’t going to bother to moderate anything.

Yep, if you post support for terrorists or Nazis you should be banned. But nuking the whole thing would be very counterproductive.

Ban the real nazi scum and ban nazi symbols etc. Also ban real hate speech and racism. There should be no room for that stuff

The problem with the term "nazi" is that it has somewhat lost all meaning. The wokies will call anyone laughing at woke shit and talking trash about it a "nazi".

Do away with real nazi shit. But absolutely let people/normies laugh at and ridicule trash, woke stuff like Dustborn and Veilguard.

It’s gross for sure, these things should be reported and steam can deal with the users posting and sharing this individually, and start handing out bans.

I also think at least some percentage of this is stupid young kids just being kids and saying and posting things that are shocking and wrong because that’s literally what kids do for fun.

But yeah just have slightly re-active moderation that does the bare minimum and keep it around.

I find many solutions to problems I'm having with games on Steam Forums. It's just as common as finding something on reddit. There's also tons of stuff like build guides for games posted in people's steam pages or whatever.

This.

Actual nazi stuff and racism isn't the same as the mental illness crap the woke lunatics wants to force on normal sane people. This is just another attempt for those nutjobs to slowly turn Steam into another gamefaqs before becoming Resetera where the most twisted and brainrot nutjob takes are considered normal when their crazy ideas should have never even be debatable in the first place let alone enforced on people.
