Videogame is both art and science. In theory there is a trade off between making money and doing it for the art. But the insanity is that game studios are now doing things that are both losing them money AND not being artistic.

I really think this disconnect is due to the long production time. If the game takes 2-3 years to make you can very quickly tell when things are going south and that the team is a failure. But if it takes 7 years for AAA games you can seriously hire a team of worthless bums for a full career only to realized they are shit at it when the game launches, but at that point you already paid them enough that firing them is too late to save your studio.
