Sweet Baby Inc took down Square Enix from its list of affiliates

Just after Concord fiasco. They got the message loud and clear.

Wait, I'm confused. I was told that companies like Sweet Baby and the DEI initiatives were the right side of history and everything other than that was clearly, unequivocally, pure nazism.

Wha... what's happening? Are Square Enix far-right now? I don't want to support racism and bigotry, guys :messenger_fearful:
I know you are being sarcastic. But the youngsters should know that all regimes that used censorship (which is what cancel culture is) in a way or another were always on the wrong side of history. The first thing nazis did was censoring their own people.

That's actually my favourite thing in this whole mess. But "being so anti-nazi while acting exactly like nazis" is a discussion they're not ready for :messenger_tears_of_joy:

They waited for Toriyama to die and started altering his designs to appeal to individuals that don't even buy the fucking games. Those ESG handouts must be massive.

I never picked up on that until you stated it. Holy shit, the disrespect.

I wonder how these changes will be received in Japan or if people are talking about it. I hope there is a backlash, both there and elsewhere, because it is so deserved. Altering the legacy of a beloved artist and creator to appeal to 'modern audiences' is just fucking gross.

Re: Dragon Quest III

I don't think Sweet Baby "changed" Toriyama's designs. 1 - It looks like Toriyama was involved in making new art for the game prior to his passing. And 2 - There aren't any noticeable changes, particularly from the SNES / GBC remakes. People will probably point out the female warrior's bikini armor, but that was a change that was already made for the GBC version

What IS different is instead of being identified as Male / Female, the characters are called Type A and Type B, which is probably something Sweet Baby had a hand in. But to say they went through and changed Toriyama's art after his death is misinformation. You're not doing your cause any good by making stuff like that up.

Be warned.
They might just pay SB to remove their name to catch us off guard later on.
Nothing is final until the product is in your hands. In this case, new game.

You got any proof that Toriyama was involved in changing his own artwork? I googled it and found nothing. I did find that people in Japan are pissed about his work being changed posthumously, though:

If you can correct this "misinformation", then by all means do so. I have no issue with being corrected with facts.

Bounding Into Comics is about the worst site you could use. I posted new artwork, it definitely looks like his work to me. Of course, we'll have to wait for the game to come out for full credits. But again, the changes made were from the GBC version. So it checks out.

Thats might explain why the main characters dont have male/female gender anymore, now its the Body type A/B, The trolls have green lips now instead of red lips, outfit of a female class has been censored to cover more skin, and the clerics cross in they outfits was replaced by a trident.
Not sure but i can see this stuff being things these DEI consultants have a problem with.

Original art by Akira Toriyama, now being butchered by DEI.

Why in fuck they changed the trolls?

I know they hate women, but what changing the trolls have to fo with anything western?

Doesn't make any sense. Is becoming parody at this point. Someone really complain about the troll design?

So, you can't provide factual information to back up your claim. Nice talk.

100% agreed, just call them what they were, germans, they got to power after winning elections, and sizeable chunk of population voted for them, they werent aliens that suddenly invaded earth from space, they lived in germany, had german heritage, spoke german, and called their own country germany, called themselfs germans.

It's still eye-popping that VALVE is on their page.. wtf?
Valve response to gamers: from Jedi: Survivor
"It is delusional to think your actions have had any consequence. The Fortress stands. The Inquisitorious continues its work. And I have come for you."

Valve internal response: "What the actual fuck have you done? What signed us up for fucking SBI? WTF. You people. Okay, we need to start pulling out of this shit without showing the gamers they hold any power over us. Pull us out slow and subtle and if this email ever leaks(I hope it does) I will find your ass."

Make no mistake our push back is working.

Concord flopped. Star Wars Outlaws flopped. Assassins Creed Shadows' marketing has gone... in the shadows. Sweet Baby Inc is being seen as a toxic brand by publishers. Microsoft fired their whole DEI team. Disney execs apparently forced Inside Out 2 to be less gay. 'Wizard Game' sold gangbusters.

We can't get complacent though. Small wins are nothing in the broader scheme of the industry's overwhelmingly progressive agenda. We can't even rely on specific regions any more like Japan, since we just saw the release of an egregiously censored Dead Rising remaster.

Just keep up the sales pressure and we'll inevitably win.

Longtime DQ fan here. The DQ3 controversy comes from a few different changes, but it's important to understand the facts behind each one.

-The Jester (female) and Warrior (female) designs have indeed been covered up a bit. Jester has more fabric covering her cleavage and upper thighs while warrior has some odd-looking skin-tone underwear beneath the bikini-style armor. However, these probably weren't changed due to western sensibilities, but to Japanese rating board CERO's increasingly strict guidelines. Many developers want to shoot for CERO A games to maximize sales across all ages, which is why stuff like Smash Bros has had to tone down certain character designs (such as Palutena's high dress). As such, the changes to traditionally scantily-clad DQ females has been going on for a few years now and can be seen in other recent games such as DQ Treasures and DQ Monsters.

-The Type A and Type B thing is due to cultural stuff, most likely western. It's attempting to be inclusive to everyone, but it's just a dumb term that sounds much worse to me than simply going Male or Female (in this case, Type B sounds like a downgrade while gendered terms are much more neutral). If they're really too chicken to use the sex binary, then I'd suggest going with "Type M" and "Type F." Hey, they could stand for anything!

-The boss troll's lips are just weird. I guess it stems from worrying about invoking old minstrel stereotypes but who honestly has ever complained that that enemy looked like a racial caricature?? Really bizarre to me.

Glad to see Square Enix shut down their work relationship with SBI.

SBI worked off the current trending guilt and know how to play off of that with these companies. The founder has even stated (2019 GDC) how they handle meetings where they tell the company what is wrong with their game and in this current social climate it would be working on the wrong side of history (in so many words).

They're some the reason the video game industry is where it is right now (would've been another crash like the early 80's but video games are bigger than the movie industry).

These type of "companies" don't go in there for innovation, they make these work spaces for them and others to be a part of because they have a chip on their shoulder.

As most know, just don't support these games and watch how quick the companies working with SBI and others like them, will realize it's bad for business.

Those lips are the typical African lips used in caricatures, they removed it because of that connotation (even if there hasn't been cartoons sporting those lips in decades), like Inki from Looney Tunes:

I'm surprised when this game was remade and released in 2019 that you didn't have some following trying to cancel it because of this characters design.

Haven't played Rebirth but seen enough scenes and don't really see anything SBI like in it so Part 3 should be similar. At least the Japanese folks does gays or lesbians well even transgenders according to animes in the past where they'll have futanari characters. It's way different than the insane pride pronouns crap.
