Tennis - General Discussion

We'll never know that exact difference, but yeah, no need for an outrage. After all, top female athletes could beat 99% of men out there, so in a way they already surpass that physical gap.

I feel that there wasn't too much of a backlash after what McEnroe said though.

If nobody's up I can do the Wimby OT, but I wouldn't want people to think I have some kind of monopoly over them (I made the last two). :)

You should do Wimbledon and USO too, so you'll have a career grand slam OT!

lol...Chair umpire Kader Nouni(the Barry White of tennis umps) going ''please'' to a bunch of loud seagulls before Wozniacki's first serve...even Pliskova laughed ;)

Here's my ranking of the slams. I didn't take into account time zones because thats biased based on where you live, so as an American I hate the European slam timezones because play starts at 4am but I didn't factor that in.

4.
French Open

Pros:
-3 Sundays of play, and 15 days of tennis. Most of any slam
- Red clay allows for longer rallies than most surfaces

Cons:
- French Open crowd is almost about as bad as US Open night crowd
- No night tennis due to lack of lights on any court
- No retractable roof on any court so rain = no tennis on any court
- No 5th set tiebreak (or 3rd set tiebreak for women ) which could cause the winner of a long match to be too tired to compete full strength in their next match if it goes deep into the 5th.
- Play suspended due to darkness

3.
Wimbledon
Pros:
- Relatively polite and knowledgeable crowd
- Tournament with the most prestige and history of the slams
- lights and retractable roof on Center court
-The Queen or Sean Connery may show up to watch the tennis

Cons:
- 11pm curfew ( due to public transportation constraints or some bullshit )
- Only 1 court with lights/roof (Although an additional court with lights/roof will be added for 2019)
-Play can be suspended due to darkness on all courts but Center
- No 5th set tiebreak (or 3rd set tiebreak for women ) which could cause the winner of a long match to be too tired to compete full strength in their next match if it goes deep into the 5th.
-Only 13 scheduled days of play (Fewest of the slams)
-No night tennis unless the match on Center goes long and said match can't go past 11pm

2.
Australian Open

Pros:
-A slam leading 3 courts with retractable roofs
- Lights on all courts
-Night tennis featuring headline matches! And no curfew!

Cons:
-The slam with the hottest temperatures can occasionally lead to heat advisory stoppage of play between sets
- No 5th set tiebreak (or 3rd set tiebreak for women ) which could cause the winner of a long match to be too tired to compete full strength in their next match if it goes deep into the 5th.

1.
US Open

Pros:
- 1 retractable roof with 1 more coming in 2018
- Largest tennis stadium in the world (Arthur Ashe)
-Lights on all courts
- Night tennis featuring headline matches with no curfew
-More celebrities attend this slam than any other
- 5th set tiebreaks (3rd set tiebreaks for women) allow for players to see a finish line, and the winner won't be too tired to give their all in their next match. Also, the tension in a 5th set tiebreak with everything on the line makes it more exciting for fans.

Cons:
-Night time US Open crowds can be unruly/drunk with poor etiquette

Amazing how all Tennis GAF moves to that thread killing the OT Tennis thread for a month.

Anyway Rogers cup next August 7. Do you guys think Fed surely will be playing this one ?

He said in press conference after the final that he and his team are going to decide on Canada, but he's for sure playing Cincinnati and the US Open. That's all so far as far as I have heard.

what are we going to call the quest for 20 at the USO?

so far i've heard/seen:

20ger
FedeXX
Bel20ve
Zwanziger

this is important everybody. get your minds to it.

FedeXX is pretty decent actually.

U20pen? I'll have to think about it.

apparently djokovic is holding a press conference next week. since it's probably not sharapova redux, he will probably just take some time off for the elbow, i would guess.

of course it's a total drama queen move if it's only for the rest of the season. just do it on twitter or something.
