Thanks OGB. I'm on mobile and fumbling with stupid copy pasting on iPhone.

I just decided to hit shuffle on his discog in my iTunes a few hours ago and Purple Rain still hasn't played yet

I'm going to be a mess when it finally plays

Minneapolis/Cities folks if you want to hang out over the weekend and celebrate his life with the city I can cover any expenses that might come up, let's do this

Prince would routinely rock a show north of 3 hours, wait an hour, hit a nearby club, and play for another 4.

That's essentially a work shift minus the lunch break. For every show.

He knew.

Yeah, man. Definitely. I also love listening to stories about him from other celebs who met him. Dude definitely had a passion for what he did and life. He was also incredibly self aware too. I followed him on Instagram and that was an experience in and of itself for a little while.

Been really so very depressed all day about this horrible news. Woke up 3am (Melbourne, Australia time) to see that the musical icon, the genius, possibly the most influential artist of all time, Prince, is dead. I just can comprehend it. It's thrown me all day. He was my childhood. He was my adulthood. He influenced all I listened to. Even now it seems bizarre to think he's not of this earth anymore. Seeing David Bowie and now Prince pass in such a short time is horrendous. May he rest in peace and influence generations to come. There'll never be another like Prince.

Has anybody talked about what a great song 7 is? That was the first Prince song I ever fell in love with as a kid. I eventually bought the Love Symbol album with money I got for Christmas. I'd play it for friends and they'd look at me weird for being into it.

I think Rembert Browne & Wesley Morris were just tweeting about it.

I remember hearing the acoustic version on the radio once and thinking it was maybe better than the album version, which had some of that weird pseudo-hip-hop production Prince was fucking around with at the time.

And then it built up to the final chorus, and this fucking massive 808 kick comes booming out of the speakers as the guitars stop and it's just the voices.

Got the single within the week, and wore that fucker OUT.

I love 7! Incredible harmonies on that hook. Layers and layers. I bought the New Power Generation/Symbol CD for that song, too. I would say it was the first Prince I loved too but I had the pleasure of owning the Batman 89 soundtrack as a 10 year old and had thus gotten to know some oldies between then and the release of (Love Symbol).

Sadly, 7 is one of those songs you can't find on YouTube, so can't link it.

Anyone got an alternate link to that Soundcloud Atlanta show that was posted earlier? It's been taken down :(

I've had Purple Rain on repeat for the past few hours. The man knew music.

RIP. He was only a year younger than my dad. That really put things into perspective for me.

Phone reception is more important to me than human rights
One of my favourite Prince stories was how, during the filming of Purple Rain, there was a scene that the director realised he needed a piece of music for. So he contacted Prince that night to tell him he needed a piece of music to accompany that scene, but there was no immediate rush. The next morning Prince had written and composed When Doves Cry.

omg. Amazing.

Ok, yall trying to break a man down I see.....

Prince's Super Bowl halftime performance is legendary, but the way he trolled the press a few days earlier was always a favorite of mine:

LOL!! I was gonna say it seems like he had a good sense of humor. This is an example. Too funny.

That throwing stick stunt of yours has boomeranged on us.
Unrelated, but I remember finding out WB was actually going to release the Black Album. Like, for real release it.

The only other time I was anywhere near as surprised by a piece of media getting a release was the Donner Cut.

Not even Superman could see Prince.

The black album got released at some point on cd at least.

Oh maybe I misread what you said.

Chris Cornell put his cover of Nothing Compares 2 U, up on youtube

Prince’s music is the soundtrack to the soulful and beautiful universe he created, and we have all been privileged to be part of that amazing world.
I performed his song "Nothing Compares 2 U" for the first time a couple months ago. It has a timeless relevance for me and practically everyone I know.
Sadly, now his own lyrics in this song could not be more relevant than at this moment, and I sing them now in reverence as I pay tribute to this unequaled artist who has given all of our lives so much inspiration and made the world so much more interesting.
We will miss you Prince!!!

We will all die... And after we do nobody will know we lived after our great-/grandchildren's generation. No need to be depressed. That's life, can't control it.

I think Musicology gets slept on way too much. Its super tight (like all his shit) but he doesnt let that clinical production work get overly fussy and stand in the way of the musicianship and songwriting thats on display. Its funky, fun and the air hasn't been sucked out sonically.
It was the old school joint for the true funk soldiers. RIP.

I've probably watched this 10 times today (and posted it earlier :D). It will never get old. The way he absolutely shreds with what seems like total effortlessness always astounds me.

I don't think you're alone. It was at 10m views this morning, after being online for 4 years. Now it's at 14m.

Anybody got a link to the album version of Shhh?
I haven't heard it in forever.

The first site that does a $5 per album Prince sale, I'm gonna load up.

EDIT: Oh Lord. The Gold Experience has gone from $13ish to $100+ on Amazon.
